mr. t was huge back then.
he used to say "i pity the fool that ______" (insert anything here).
Wasn't "weird" also forbidden, since it had demonic connotations? Maybe it was "strange"? I don't remember the word now, but one of 'em got tagged as demonic and you got "the look" if you used it.

I have to disagree, Jeff. The policies of the Watchtower force people that want out to play a little deceptive game we call "fading". You have to make an appearance of being a JW, then slowly reduce your activity until you just aren't attending anymore. It's a very difficult thing to do, and the "reduce"'ing that a person can get away with will vary from one to the next. (The alternative is to immediately lose access to your family and the only social support network you've ever known.)
We all left (or are in the process of leaving) a very intolerant organization that saw things in black and white. One of the great freedoms of leaving it is the opportunity to relax, accept, and see the world in the many grays of reality.

Some have postulated that the "no birthdays" rule is more about separating JW's from their non-JW family than about any pagan/scriptural issues. Ray Franz's book shows that the governing body doesn't mind bending the truth if it means leading the flock to stay "safely" in the organization. So this would be a perfectly reasonable rule to put in place from that perspective. Holidays in general fall into the same category.

Not being a JW brings some strange responsibilities with it, doesn't it Jeff? You loved because you HAD to. (One brother referred to agape love as "Love ya 'cause I gotta") I mean, maybe you would've anyway, but the rule overrode any emotion on the subject.

Is there a God? Well, DUH!
Now that the JW rulebook is tossed aside, you suddenly find yourself burdened with coming up with your OWN answers to these questions.
I've pondered the 'take a bullet' question too. I concluded that I would RISK my life for them or anyone else, but I wouldn't GIVE my life for them. The level of risk I'd be willing to take increases with the level of love I have for the person in need. There are a select few I would actually *give* my life for.

my son said the same thing, though he was a little put-off by the obvious "copy cat" aspect.

Then we both watched the show. We both hated it. It's hard to articulate just why. It felt like they were all playing "experiment". Which is kind of what Mythbusters does, but they seem to do more "playful experimenting" than simply playing AT experimenting.
For fun, I google'd "smash lab love" and "smash lab hate". The "hate" one produced many results like "I hate smash lab". The "love" one produced results that said, "I hate smash lab, but I love mythbusters". :-)
A train-wreck of a show, dedicating to wrecking trains. Gotta love the irony.

i had an idea last night and thought i would see how others feel about it.. i would just love to know if there are members of jwd in my area.
unfortunately like so many others i cannot give too much away as i am still "in" for family reasons.
i was thinking, would it work if we created some of those maps where you can pin your location but do it anonymously (i.e not using our jwd i.d as a reference)?
