Do you change your mind easily?
by nicolaou inas ex-jw's we've all cleary changed our minds about what 'the truth' is but do you think you could make another big change like that again?
i honestly cannot see myself changing my mind about the non-existence of god and the supernatural - but hey, i was just as dogmatic in my jw days that those things were real!
i guess anything is possible but it feels as though with every passing year my options for change are reduced.

I used to put SO much thought into every decision -- and they'd often be wrong anyway.
Then I put no thought into them, and they were still often wrong.
Now I put a little thought in them, and they are often wrong. *sigh*
With my track record, it doesn't pay to be unwilling to change my mind.

I know my favorite dream job - what's yours?

My dream job would involve entertaining people. Making people happy, making them laugh, and getting paid for it? Yeah, I'm all about that.
I also think being a hotdog vendor would be fun. Warm food, happy people, small short-lived transactions -- sounds great!

Hey Fairchild!
Nice to see you! Yeah, I've been off the cigs for about 6 months now -- yippee!
Sorry, I don't have a board anymore. Hopefully someone else will chime in!

Athiests please answer these questions
by Mrs Smith ini'm not trying to pick a fight i was just sitting at my desk pondering on some threads on jwd and i would very much like this question answered.. why is it that athiest often (not always) direct their argument for athiesism towards christians?
why not direct your argument towards buddists or muslims or even new-agers?
i mean they also believe in a higher power so why is it that only christains seem to get knocked?

I wonder if that's the case everywhere, or just in Christian-dominated societies? I have a Christian background, so my basis for comparison is Christian. I suspect many atheists you've encountered find themselves in a similar situation.
However, I don't think a person is doing themselves any favors if they reject the idea of god solely on their christian experience. Rejecting BibleGod on that basis might make some sense, but not the whole concept of a higher power.

I'm finding the strength to stand on my own, but...
by White Dove in...it's scary.
it's scary not to feel really guilty when someone doesn't like my attitude or what i've said.
i'm affraid of becoming cynical and not feeling at all.

Finding balance is the key to everything. You can't be hard hearted, but you can't care about everyone's problems to your own loss. You can't be selfish, but you can't be fully selfless.
Enjoy the journey, 'cause it's a safe bet we'll never reach the destination!

I bought some "JW Dundee's Honey Brown" -- yummy stuff!
But then I noticed on the receipt it was called.... "JWD Beer"! So it's official -- JWD has its own beer, and it's sold at Wal-Mart!
Top THAT, Watchtower!!! (Does Simon get a nickel for every bottle sold? I think he should...)

Was it better to be an elder's wife, or a CO's wife?
by AlmostAtheist ina friend of mine was asking about the cult we all hold so dear, and i was explaining some of it to her.
i told her about elder's wives, and how they have both the prestige of that position, plus the social standing.
logically, it would be even better for a co's wife.

>>and having to listen to all the crazies and smile and smile. Like I said, major suckage...
In my note to my friend I mentioned that JW's break down into two groups; "True Believers" and "Can't Leavers". Can I assume, Brunn, that you were a "Can't Leaver"? ;-)

I'm glad you mentioned that, Aude. I recall several CO's wives with health issues that sounded more like depression than anything else. Always tired, unmotivated, various allergies.
Sounds like a crummy job. How much would it suck to get that Elder's Wife position you've been shooting for, only to have it turn into a CO's wife position? Come to think of it, I know a sister that happened to. She wasn't quite the "company man" that her hubby was to begin with, and now she's a CO's wife. Poor Debbie... :-(
