what mechanisms do you employ to pay yourselves individually, the reception, personally of more praise, and compliments?.
I wish I was better at it. I'm very hard on myself and not prone to reflect on good things I've done very often. I guess I have the Empire to thank for that. You just can't be happy and self-confident as a dub. When you raise your head above the crowd, someone's always there to take a chop at it.
But I will say this. Self confidence comes easier outside the Empire.

i have followed the silentlambs issue for awhile now.
i saw the special on dateline, and read a few things on newspapers and online links.
i have a question though and wonder if someone could answer it for me, as this was asked to me by someone "outside of the organization" and i did not know.. .
Does the society need to be destroyed or just corrected on procedures, so that they do not harm people?
Just how would the Empire be stopped from harming people? By having all means to do so removed from them. Taking all their power away. In other words, destruction of the WTS.
What Bill Bowen and others are doing with the Silentlambs movement is a far more realistic goal: changing some of the policies of the WTS to prevent future harm. I can't imagine Bill turning away an abuse victim from another religion, but other religions aren't the focus of Silentlambs.
The fall of The Empire will come from within. Look at the figures. We're only here to help it along. Ex-jw's won't bring down the WTS, that fall will come from within.

GSX, yes it may be considered our past actions biting us in the ass. Who would have even thought back then that the situation would be what it is today? But the fact that the U.S. may have helped Iraq along in their bio-weapons program doesn't change the fact that now Iraq does pose a clear and present danger and that danger must be neutralized.

I would suggest that the prayers of church leaders for world peace are NOT intended to bring world peace, but rather are a request to God that He bring world peace.
Good idea. Could really back them into a corner with this one. Ask them how they think God feels about killing 99% of the world's population when so many have prayed to him to save all of us.
Then again, they're dubs. You can lead a man to knowledge but you can't make him think.

anyone here ever been a practicing amish ?
i always wondered what life was like in the amish community.any help would be appreciated.i did see the witness movie with harrison ford and thought it was a good movie ,but was it in anyway realistic?

There is a Mennonite community a little ways south of where I live. (Are Amish and Mennonites the same?) They all wear the traditional clothes and don't send their kids to public schools. But they do have cars and trucks, electricity, running water, etc. They own a restaurant in Montezuma, Ga that is very popular. They own several other businesses around there too.
BTW, Yoder's (the restaurant) is excellent! Everything is fresh, grown and raised by the Mennonites themselves.

So what's your point? Are you trying to say that since we supplied some of the materials for Iraq's biological weapons that we should not turn around now and wage a war to eliminate Saddam Hussein?
The 80's were a different time. Iraq was supported then because they were at war with Iran. If the Reagan administration let Saddam have supplies like the article says, they had a good reason at the time.
Damn! I sure wish all this had happened under America's Greatest President, The Great Ronald Reagan. If it had, the U.S. would probably have an additional state or two in the Middle East and gas would be less than a buck a gallon.

since i was a believer from the earliest of my memories, i spent my formative academic years not thinking or caring much about my future.
although 1975 (armageddon / the end of the world / jehovah's judgment) was still a year away, as a naive, dumbass teenager it was looming very large on my radar screen.

A friend of mine used to respond to black customers who would say or imply he was racist, "I'm not prejudiced, I hate everybody!". While he was kidding, it is a good point. Some folks are really that way. They really do dislike everyone immediately and it takes an act of Congress to change how they feel.

I don't think the Democrats as a whole are evil. Not any more than you liberals can say the Republicans as a whole are evil. The evil is in the extreme elements of both parties. I happen to like the Democrats a whole lot less than the Republicans. The Democrats are the ones who want to take an ever-increasing portion of the money I earn and give it to those who didn't earn it.
Those of you who say the Republicans are "morality police" because of the Christian Right that holds so much power in that party need to see reality. The Democrats will not hesitate to be "morality police" if given the power. If you believe in the saying "you can't legislate morality" then you should be just as distrustful of the Liberals as you should the Conservatives. Since we're not going to see the government stay out of our lives either way, I'd rather see "traditional" values upheld and promoted by my government. The alternative with the Liberals is to see their own "morality police" creating and enforcing ever-broadening "hate crime", "hate speech", "anti-discrimination", and "affirmative action" legislation. I'm not a racist here, but I have read The Turner Diaries and to be perfectly honest with you I can see the country becoming something like what is described in the book if the Democrats ever were to gain Congressional and Presidential control.
I'm a Libertarian like Francois. But in the voting booth I feel that a vote for the Libertarian candidate would basically be a vote lost to the Democrat so I have to support the Republicans. I feel more secure both for myself and for my country knowing Republicans are in control. It wasn't a Republican government that stormed into Waco with armored vehicles and Delta Force "advisors" or murdered an unarmed woman at Ruby Ridge. That was Democrats in action. That was a taste of what we can expect if Democrats ever regain both houses of Congress and the Presidency.
