Well, Captain Dan the News Man is back in the drug war. The latest threat is from the evil villain Oxycontin. It's causing a crime wave. People are forging prescriptions, stealing, and overdosing on this powerful synthetic morphine. Oh my god! There is nothing I can put in my body to make me feel good that isn't illegal and villainized anymore! Even androstenediol got the bad rap when Mark McGuire got caught using it.
Ahem! ATTENTION UNCLE SAM! IT IS MY BODY, NOT YOURS!
Aspirin don't work for EVERYONE! And most doctors are very stingy with pain meds. A person who is hurt should have all the comfort they require, which is usually more than the doctor wants to script.
In addition, plenty of folks enjoy using the occasional pill recreationally. Who are they hurting by relaxing in the privacy of their home with a lortab or perc?
This "war on drugs" is really beginning to annoy me.
It hurts the innocent by making doctors scared to prescribe little more than "enhanced tylenol". It turns otherwise good citizens into inmates for keeping a personal supply of valium or lortabs for Sunday afternoon relaxation.
And for what? To maintain a beauracracy and the status quo of the prescription drug industry. They are too inflexible to change to handle de-regulation and repealing of old laws which would allow RESPONSIBLE ADULTS to indulge in something other than alcohol for chemical recreation.
Sometimes, (much as I hate to say it) America can really suck!

The Cops at the DC

Officer Ricky B. Sharp is walking his K9 partner around the grounds of some Alabama convention center. (Did I mention this joke takes place in Alabama?) An Attendant comes up and strikes up a conversation about the dog. The cop brags about the dog's "sniffing" abilities and demonstrates. He sends the dog down the south corridor. A few minutes later the dog runs back and utters one bark. The cop explains that one bark means marijuana and the dog leads him to an interloper with a small bag of pot in his pocket.
On the next excursion, the dog returns and utters 2 barks. This, explains the cop, means cocaine and the dog leads him to another worldly person with a stash of nose candy in his pocket.
For the third search, the dog is gone for a good hour. When he returns, he takes a crap on the attendant's shoes. The shocked attendant asks what is the problem.
The cop listens to the dog's excited barking and tells the attendant: "There's a bomb in the kitchen"

Happy Neighbor Story

since i moved into my new apartment, i've not had much to do with any neighbors except to say hello.

all but one have been friendly.

the one exception is the lady in the apartment closest to mine.

Since I moved into my new apartment, I've not had much to do with any neighbors except to say hello. All but one have been friendly. The one exception is the lady in the apartment closest to mine. She has never been friendly, so I had to make friends somehow.
Today, I was grilling out and she happened by on her way in to the house. The exchange was short, hello and all. When I finished grilling, I knocked on her door with a kabob of my swordfish and lemon slices and the wall came crumbling down. She was very suprised and pleased at the gesture and suddenly there was much less of a wall between us.
Suddenly, the white trash next door became a neighbor and I made a new friend. (I'm the white trash by the way)
So my Sunday has been very happy. Made a good neighbor today.
Maybe I'll even be able to make peace with my ex-love now! I think I will try this week so wish me luck.

Joel, I'm suprised to hear you say that. Shunning one's JW family because they shun you is kind of like in Jesus' words: "putting your lamp under a basket". You could try for years and years and may or may not get results, but if you don't try at all you are garanteed no results.

homophobia is a mis-nomer

since phobia means "afraid of", i think the term homophobia should be clarified.

to most people i would be considered homophobic, howeve, i'm not afraid of homos, i just don't like them.

I've had a few gay friends, even a gay roommate once. Only once did one of his friends disrespect my boundaries, and James promptly took care of that. I've always found gay folks to be pretty cool to be around.
That said, I'd like to add a little humor to this post if I may. Read no further if you don't like four-letter words!

Something cause this??? but what??

i like to wonder, and be able to think independent of any subject or topic thats provoke me.

even if these subjects are "weird" or not.. it look like sometimes ,there is topics that seems to already been explained seriously as hoaxes.

so dont even bother to try to explain it otherwise,or if u want to maintain serious.. well here is a challenge for you.. try to explain these images.. since 1980 these crop circles has appeared ,and increased every year.. what do u think of this circle that appeared today.

I like the theory of the crop circles being "pranks" by bored alien teenagers.
If taken in that context, most if not all UFO encounters become a little more believable.

JW's and star trek?

why are there so many star trek refferences among x-jw's?

like the borg getting assimilated, etc.

i heard before that star trek was very popular in bethel despite warnings not to watch it.

I watched the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation and just didn't care for it too much; I always called it "Liberals In Space". I substitute "The Empire" for "The Borg", being a Star Wars fan.
As a side note, the Star Wars books are getting a little tired now. Chewbacca gets killed, Han and Leia settle down with 3 kids, and I was starting to think Luke Skywalker was gay until he married Mara Jade. I kinda suspected her, too.

Speaking of bathrooms at the DC

reading mulan's thread about her daughter-in-law's experience in the bathroom, i couldn't help remembering what happened at one district convention in jacksonville.. a sister brought her little 2 year old son in to spank.

she whipped him for so long with a thick comb and everytime the little boy would cry she would spank him some more because he was crying.

i went back to my seat crying.

A parent who resorts to spanking to control a restless child at a long meeting or convention should be forced to submit to some sort of equivalent public humiliation immediately thereafter!
When you look at all the teachings of The Empire, the most ridiculous has to be that they expect a 3 year old to sit quietly and listen to the same material as the adults for anywhere from 2 to 8 hours.
I'd much rather see those kids in a separate meeting for children being taught on their level. And plenty of time on a playground next to the Kingdom Hall to let off youthful steam. Oh wait, no playgrounds there.

Which meeting was the hardest to attend for you ?

for me i think it was the sunday meeting.. just wanting to stay home and sleep in.. but i think the watchtower study was the hardest to sit threw... you had to have it studied before hand.. and highlighted.. then sit there and listen to it all over again..

For me, the wt study and service meeting were toleable when I could pull microphone duty.
I made the book studies more tolerable when I started attending a saturday morning bs at a nearby congregation because I couldn't make the Tuesday nite one in my own congregation.
I did the same with Sunday meetings, going to other congregations where my [very few jw] friends attended and being at the meeting with them made it a little better. That lasted only a very short time before my df'ing.
There was one Sunday meeting I went to when I was like 19 or so that was interesting. I was delivering pizzas for a Pizza Hut restaurant at the time and helped close on Saturday nites. Well of course closing time meant helping yourself to the draft beer on tap while you worked (thanks, Kathy!) so when I finally did find my way home at 4am after riding around with some buddies for a while drinking I was still very drunk the next morning and felt the hangover coming on. (speaking as if relating an experience to a convention crowd) Driving to the Kingdom Hall I happened to look down in the floor of the car, Brother Righteous, and Jehovah blessed me with a single unopened can of Milwaukee's Best so I drank His blessing and then chewed some strong Wrigley's Spearming so as not to stumble my brothers and sisters and I really enjoyed that meeting!
