ok, Roy you let it slip so you gotta tell the story!!
This is part of the meeting, speaker calls on Roy to relate his uplifting (no pun intended) experience to the rest of the congregation!

So Radar, thinking of starting an arsenal?
Tell me, what are gun control laws in England like? I know they are very strict, but can citizens own guns there?
I once heard that people in England could own small .22 caliber pistols equipped with suppressors for the purpose of pest control, forget where I heard that but is it true?

You can own a fully-automatic firearm. You have to pay a $200 tax and obtain a permit from the B.A.T.F. for each weapon. They're called "class 3" weapons, and "class 3" also includes supressed weapons (guns with silencers). However you cannot buy a non-full-auto or non-suppressed gun and get permission to convert it. Don't ask me why, you just can't.
That doesn't stop a whole lot of people. The Chinese-made SKS rifle, very inexpensive and popular in the early 90's, is very easily converted to full-auto. It's also a very common practice. (I know, I have one)
Depending on which state you live in, you can still buy a gun and take it home the same day if you have a valid firearms license. Here in Georgia, I have one and don't have to wait to buy a gun.
By the way, Nathan, the Mini-14 is not a civilian version of the M-16. The civilian version of the M-16 is the AR-15. The Mini-14 is a different animal altogether. But they do look pretty cool in "The A-Team".

Tom Clancy inspired bin Laden?
by JanH ini killed quite a bit of time a couple of years ago reading tom clancy's 1996 novel executive orders.
it is not a particularly good novel, and for having 1200+ pages, it has an anti-climactic ending, imo, and the protagonist (and author!
) seems to be somewhere to the right of mussolini.. but the similarities between the plot in this tom clancy novel and what has happened in the us since sept 11 are scary, especially if it is true that the same people who organized the wtc attack is also behind the envelopes with anthrax bacteria sent to media outlets.

When the attacks happened, I told the guys at work about Executive Orders. It was really eerie to me, since one plane hit the Pentagon and there were bomb scares at the capitol building.
My boss and I were talking about it today, the part in Executive Orders about Ebola. They got the virus because an Iranian doctor was working in Africa when an outbreak occured. Then it was simply a matter of getting a supply back to Iran to cultivate.
With these cases of anthrax popping up, I get worried. Hijacked planes and car bombs scare me far less than bio-weapons. A bomb can be stopped in time and if it does go off, it only goes off once. A bio-weapon is a bomb that can keep exploding, if the agent is contagious.
In this case, I hope life doesn't imitate art.

p.s. Jan, I enjoyed the books Debt of Honor and Executive Orders. -

Get MORE than 100% from Life!
by Bendrr inwe've all been in some meeting with a boss or coach and have been told to give 110%.
but just how does one break the 100 barrier?.
let's say that a=1, b=2, and so on until z=26.. now "hard work" becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98.

We've all been in some meeting with a boss or coach and have been told to give 110%. But just how does one break the 100 barrier?
Let's say that A=1, B=2, and so on until Z=26.
Now "hard work" becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98. 98% from hard work.
"Knowledge" is 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96. So knowledge gives us only 96%.
"Attitude" or 1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100 brings us to the magic 100% but not beyond.
So how does one surpass the limitations?
"Bullshit" is a start. 2+21+12+12+19+8+9+20=103. Giving more than 100% is bullshit!
But I want to go much further!
"Asskissing" soars at 1+19+19+11+9+19+19+9+14+7=127. That's right, asskissing gives 127%!!!
Now get out there and succeed!

Road rage episode
by Introspection inok.. for those of you who may not know me from previous posts, all i can say is this is unusual for me and please do not judge me as a person for it.
for the other friends who know me by such, please take this into consideration when you read this.
i would like to get some feedback on this, perhaps from some of the folks from the martial arts threat joel started recently, especially if you have also read my other posts.. (hopefully a well balanced combo).

There's definitely a line to be drawn as far as how we react to bonehead drivers. Personally I don't even flip them off anymore.
Its already been said, that guy could have been a psycho.
Best to just get home safe, let the cops handle the bad drivers.

The Fitting Punishment for the Taliban
by Tallyman intaliban, taliban (no relation to tallyman, i swear!
... the similar phonics give me the creeps).
anywho, here's what you do with those jokers.. send in the delta force from ft.bragg.. drop 'em in to kabul and surroundings and they round up all taliban.. air ferry the captured taliban to sweden.. shave off their beards.. pump 'em full of estrogen.. and give 'em all a sex-change operation.. put 'em on the planes back to afghanistan, fly over kabul, .

Punishment for the taliban thugs?
After the war, when we help rebuild a free Afganistan, send a hand-picked team over to help lead the way.
Hillary Clinton, Rosie O'Donnel, Sarah Brady, Kathy Lee Gifford, and "Hanoi" Jane Fonda.
While we're at it, how about a few more?
Bill Clinton, Algore, Jesse Jackson, "Calypso Louie" Farrakhan, O.J. Simpson, O.J.'s legal team, and the state of Arkansas.

What would YOU do, knowing what we know?
by Bendrr inknowing what hijackers are capable of now, what would you do if you were on a plane and a group of hijackers began taking over?.
would you stand and fight, calling on your fellow passengers to fight with you?.
what if the terrorists were armed with guns or claimed to have a bomb?

Would you stand and fight, calling on your fellow passengers to fight with you?
What if the terrorists were armed with guns or claimed to have a bomb? Would you still fight back, risking getting shot or the bomb going off?
Would you use your cell phone to call authorities knowing that fighters may arrive to shoot the plane down so as to avoid an even bigger death toll?

Archie Bunker wasn't too far off the mark with that one. Neil Boortz discussed the same idea the other day. Allow U.S. citizens with valid gun permits to carry their guns onboard. Of course, due to the fact that standard ammo may puncture the pressurized cabin, the weapons must be loaded with appropriate frangible ammo that the airline will gladly supply.
As far as passengers standing up and fighting back, what a wonderful idea. And a good deterrent as well. Truth be told, I would welcome such a story. Instead of seeing mass destruction on CNN, bin Laden and his cronies would see their agents leaving the plane in body bags.
