Metatron, right as usual.
My brother is DF'd (or DA'd, he never actually said for sure) and still has loads of friends still in. Last time I talked to him he was in his truck en route to the house of some dub friends. He still talks to our parents like I do. I talk to mom on the phone once a week, and if I miss calling mom calls me and makes it a point to say she's calling because I DIDN'T. Only thing we don't do is actually get together in person, though when dad is giving a public talk in town they do like to stop by.
A couple of times mom has said something to the effect of "being discreet" in calls and visits, hence I don't go to their house.
The main auto parts supplier for the shop where I work is ran by dubs, a couple of whom I've known for years. They all say hi when they see me there.
I really have to agree with you that most of the r&f deep down inside don't like the shunning policy. Especially those who have kids who are/were df'd. For a parent to watch their child shunned in such a way is unimagineable to me. I can see it in my own parents. One conversation with my mom regarding a family death ended up going into the disfellowshipping issue and I let her have it pretty hard about what I thought about the policy. She tried to tell me it was right, but I could hear the conflict in her voice. I knew somewhere deep down inside she was agreeing with me.
Maybe I'm way out there with this, but it's conceivable that the ever-increasing df'ings will have a hand in reforming the policy itself. I really just don't see this policy surviving in its present harsh form forever. I don't see it going away though.
It's been noted that the stance on shunning swings back and forth from draconian to kinda-sorta-liberal. Say what you like about how dubs will gulp down without question "[blinking] new light" on policy but this one hits closer to home and the heart than just about all others and going from hard to soft to hard every several years just ain't gonna fly forever.Love conquers all. We just have to keep on working on our family and friends who shun/semi-shun us. Some will eventually get results, others maybe not. The only way to garantee no results is not to try at all.

With a little refinement it could be a very sharp sword indeed. You have to realize that Bill can't be the only elder pained by the pedophile policies of the Empire.I copied and pasted your letter to this post and have sat here for the last hour using it as a template for my own, editing over and over. You had a good idea, sending letters of support for Bill to the elders. I want to suggest we all do just that, and that we also cc those letters to Brooklyn.
Here's my letter. Maybe some of you could add something to it, especially some chapter and verse biblical references since I don't have a bible handy.
Dear Body of Elders of xxxx Congregation:
It has come to my attention that there is possible judicial action intended for Brother Bill Bowen and many who support him.
Even though I am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses this hurts me deeply because I still care very much for all the Witnesses, especially the innocent children. I, like many others, see Brother Bowen's cause as one of love and concern, a courageous and righteous cause, not a rebellion against Jehovah or the Organization.
I believe, and so do many - both Witnesses and others - that it would be wise to consider the message carefully as did the Beoreans to see if these things are true before "killing the messenger".
Jehovah handles things in his due time. We do not know how God will deal with Brother Bowen and the serious issues he has worked so hard to bring to light. And it is certainly not up to you or I to judge him because as the scriptures tell us only Jehovah knows his heart.
Jehovah tells us in His Word the Bible that all that is hidden will be brought to light. Who are we to say that this is not a test, that Jehovah is revealing "leaven", bringing to light corruption and uncleanness that requires action?
Could you honestly say that you would not be covering over evil by ignoring Brother Bowen's message and instead removing him from Jehovah's Organization?
The scriptures tell us we are a spectacle to the world and while no part of the world we still must be conscious of how we are viewed by it. Such action against Brother Bowen would serve to bring reproach on Jehovah's Earthly Organization and show to the world a lack of humility and love.
I would ask you to treat Brother Bowen as Jesus would. The world says that people in glass houses should not throw stones and Jesus told us not to remove the straw from our brother's eye without first removing the rafter from our own.

by QUEENIE inannoying ah how sinful i am and yes after 40 years a friggin jw i am seeing a head doctor and meds for mood swings and have had loads of worldy therapy and i choze celabacy years ago and am proud of myself and love sleeping alone..the people on thread annoying are obviously jws and my daughter l i s a has their number.. now i will end this and start my book called 40 yrs with a frggin cult called the watchtower !!!
jw publishers as a whole are very abusive and it is not just the higher ups and i know loads of people have experienced such treatment...my daughter is very coherant and she told me she said it annoys her when i even say jehovah witnesses and i am going to try to be better and not annoy her she says this as she was born into it jws r full of shit..i wish i did not have to have them come pounding on ones door soliciting wt and awake.for 10 cents or whatever simon dear monitor / or see them on street corners pushing their demonized mags / but as yet they have not been declared illegal as they have been in some countries...i hope i have been coherent enough one and all / simon too..now i must go and concentrate on something more important to me like our cat whom i worship dearly p e a c e

Advice on parking lot accident

Sounds like it would have been a pretty simple situation except for one thing. Insurance companies had to get involved.
Let me tell you about car insurance companies. They will say the most outrageous things imaginable to avoid paying a claim. A drunk driver can swerve into your lane and hit you head on with witnesses all around and a claims adjuster will tell you with a straight face that YOU are at fault.
I know. It happened to me back in 92. I was doing 50 mph, he was making a left turn at 35. Last thing I remember was his truck swerving towards me. The deputy knew him unfortunately, and tried to cover for him. No breathalyzer in spite of the half-empty bottle of whiskey behind the seat of his truck and the beer cans scattered across the road. The guy admitted having no insurance but the deputy didn't do a damn thing except turn around and write me a ticket for "too fast for conditions" which was immediately thrown out of court before I even saw the judge.
The claims adjuster took the "too fast for conditions" and ran with it. She actually said that if I had been going slower the other driver could have made the turn without hitting me.
It almost cost me a job, being without a vehicle for so long. In the end it took calling to tell the adjuster that I had a lawyer and would see her in court. I got a settlement that day.
Bottom line is get a lawyer.whatever...
