It would seem that if the UN changed some requirements for association they would have forwarded this information to those members in "good standing." To try to push this off by saying some isolated legal corporation joined and were unaware while the publishing company promoted the ideals as agreed is devious. The UN has consistently been identified in WT publications as the disgusting thing standing in a place where it ought not. The termination of this relationship came about only when questions started to be asked.

JW answer on UN issu
by happy man ini find this on an jw site, its about the ub issu.. 1991, one of the legal corporations of the wts registered with the united nations as an ngo for the sole purpose of getting access to the extensive library of the united nations.
this enabled a writer who received an identification card, to enter the library, to enter the library for research purposes and to obtain information that has been used in writing articles in our journals about the united nations.
there was nothing secret about it.

Cow Blood
by Rado Vleugel inthe official watchtower-site does feature a story about the masai.
the article doesn't talk about one of the most talked about customs of the masai: the drinking of cow blood!
compare this description from an encyclopedia with the http://www.watchtower.org/ article.

Maybe a letter to the Editor asking why no mention of this was made would make it into Awake!?

Venting *#&(#*!
by Tashawaa ini'm getting that religious people realllly get on my nerves - no matter how "well meaning" they are.
i read in one of the posts some advice to the newly "ex'd" and i appreciated it, especially the point how other's may want to "save" you now that you've left your religion.. get this... i work with 2 born-agains and my boss is a mormon.
they've all made some comments about that "i shouldn't let this experience destroy my faith in jesus" (tolerable, assuming i believed in him) however, one co-worker has a new zeal for her born-again faith and has raised many topics with me because she respects my opinion.

Yes the "have a blessed day" crowd with their "Jesus Loves You" bag and the practiced pious facial expression. I was trapped on a bus two weeks ago with a woman who was apparently practicing her sermon for when she gets her own church. For 30 minutes she ranted until it was her stop. Know them well.

There is a rumour...
by caballoSentado inhi friends,.
i need confirmation about a rumour i keep hearing about in my country.
several jw's who know about the wt-un affair are saying that in usa the wt is having the elders in the congregations give a speech accepting the blame for this scandal & asking for forgiveness or something similar.

The UN thing was strictly to gain access to the library. Once WT became aware that they were in bed with the "beast" they withdrew as an NGO. They did not know they had signed on to promote and support the ideals of the "disgusting thing." They have nothing to apologize for.
YEAH RIGHT!

What did you do to piss the brothers off?
by Pleasuredome inwhen you were getting fed up with meetings before you gave up, was there anything you did to deliberately get on the brothers nerves?.
i turned up to a meeting once with jeans on, and a red top with cccp on it with the 'hammer and sickle'.
i also went to another bs group a few times so that if i wasnt at one group they'd think i was at the other and vice versa.

When the then PO remarked to me seems you don't trust us, I told them I didn't. On another occasion told the now PO and Sec. about a particular issue that I thought they were just trying to cover their assets. When two elders came to get in my business about work I was doing I asked if either of them paid any of my bills. One was soooo hot when he left he forgot his overcoat in the middle of winter. Must have told his wife about it cause she didn't speak to me for about 3 weeks.

Double Life
by restorebeauty in.
when a witness is leading a double life, are they really leaning toward not believing in the "truth" and just staying in for family and friends sake or do they really believe it is the "truth" but just want to have a little fun?.
i have a friend who says he is "in" just because he goes to meetings of sundays, however during the week you would not believe it if he told you he was a witness.. just curious..

I believe it's the "whistling past the graveyard" mentality. I'll do my thing away from the KH, but still go just in case the big A is coming.

Signs of JW decline
by larc inthe decline of the jws has been discussed before in bits and pieces.
i thought i would summarize some of the "signs of the times".
1. there is been no growth in 24 internet connected countries.

The change in understanding of "this generation" would also have an effect. Those who expected to be in "paradise" by now just aren't buying it anymore. The words "Armageddon is just around the corner" have been said so much that it no longer has the same stimulating response to go and do more.

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #23
by ozziepost inhow's the weekend going for you?
here in the great sunburnt country it's time to put the feet up and relax with a good cuppa, whilst i guess the north american posters and lurkers are still raging on saturday eve.
wherever you are, take a few minutes to just relax and unwind and enjoy reminiscing.

#2. The PO handed out little calendar/appointment books at the end of the year for the upcoming year and I'd write in the date box each time I went out (the exact time to the minute).

I'm not ready to exhale
by teejay inlet's face it.... the only reason the d.c. sniper was caught was because his pride--arrogance, really--got out of hand.
he bragged about another cold-blooded killing that he had made a month ago.
what his stupid ass didn't realize is that he gave a break to competent officials who were looking for any opening.

Unfortunately, the media is in business. Business as in sell papers, larger ratings make MONEY etc. The only way to get them to stop is to not buy the papers, magazines or watch so called news "specials" that sensationalize tragic happenings. It was always irritating for me to see some reporter try to show how lax security is at an airport, bridge, etc. While terrorists are trained killers, some sick mind seeking attention may look at this as an opportunity to get his 15 minutes of fame.

Witness publications bloodguilty?
by freedom96 inhave you ever been in a store, perhaps a laundry mat, dry cleaners, doctors office, etc and seen a few of the watchtower and awakes sitting there?.
obviously, someone needed to "place" some old mags, get their numbers up.
i remember doing this too during early morning street work.

It really is up to the individual as to the choice they make with their life. When the conditional "donation" arrangement came into effect it was with the proviso that magazines would be left with an individual who agreed to read them. The idea of taking "older" magazines and leaving them in public places seems inconsistent with that purpose.
