Put the tape recorder on the table. Don't hide it. Ask all visitors to state their name and congregational position. Then ask what the purpose of this meeting is. They will never suspect getting this strategy in the pre-meeting. It might cause them to have an "emergency" to deal with and a hasty retreat. Always remember It's your house.

upcoming elder visit, need help
by greven ini have been inactive for quite a while since i started to do research on the society.
the elders knew about this and even encouraged it, until i started to ask the wrong type of questions, mostly of the kind: "can you provide verifyable evidence for that?".
anyway, they wanted to meet to discuss my current position towards the religion and towards the bible.

My ex-student's letter of disassociation
by Titanic inhere is the letter of disassociation of one who was "my best" student when serving the borg.
we studied together for more than 2 years.
she got baptized and was doing pioneering hours slaving the borg.since my disassociation she has been scrutinizing the borg and she has been out for a while.now she is keen to disassociate herself from this cult.. so, here is her letter, and i hope that it can serve as an example for those who think about doing the same.. 1 march 2003. .

The only thing I'd add is: This letter is to be read in its entirety at the next Service Meeting.

Leon Weaver was one of my CO's years ago. Last public talk I gave he was in that congregation. Said he was headed off to France the next day. I thought he got an upgrade to "Given One."

I'm Glad I'm Not An Elder----Who Wants To Be Sued???
by minimus innow that a new hampshire judge has opened the way for the elders to be sued in the berry molestation case, it's relieving to know that you can't be sued because you're an "untrained volunteer" elder.
i wonder if these guys smugly think that since the watchtower society is defending them, god will make sure they will not get into any trouble.

Wouldn't you still be liable for actions you took as an elder even though no longer serving? It would make for an interesting situation to see if the Society would do anything to assist.

Our neighbors took our trash
by wednesday inmaybe i am fussy, but when i put trash out to be picked up, i don't expect my neighbors to come and get it.
we did not see them this time, but we have seen them before.
my hubby put a burned out mr. coffee out beside our trash can last night, and this am it was gone, prior to the trash men picking it up.

I don't have a problem with somebody taking something I'm throwing out. If they have a use for it great. Someone has taken to moving my trash from in front of my home and placing it next door in front of an abandoned building. Once I called Sanitation to arrange for an old A/C to have the CFC removed. It needs to be put out the night before. The next day it had been moved next door. Strange.

Can she count the time?
by benext inlast night as i'm heading through the walkway to exit the subway i saw the strangest thing.
usually there are two elderly sisters sitting against the wall, magazines propped on their laps.
sometimes one or the other will gather the strength to pick one up and extend it towards passerby.

Last night as I'm heading through the walkway to exit the subway I saw the strangest thing. Usually there are two elderly sisters sitting against the wall, magazines propped on their laps. Sometimes one or the other will gather the strength to pick one up and extend it towards passerby. Yesterday, there was a younger woman standing with the magazines in English and Spanish. Upon closer examination, she was wearing pants and sneakers, with makeup slathered across her face. Then it dawned on me she was mimicking the Witnesses hoping to cash in on the magazines. She had the same bored expression on her face and held the magazines at chest level. I don't know if she was successful or not but it was an innovative form of panhandling. Then I imaginged the sisters who "placed" these magazines relating the experience of the homeless woman who approached them and was so thirsty for the "truth," she took them in two languages!

I used to count time starting with the first person I talked to and ending with the last. I didn't round up minutes to the next hour. It was always funny when we'd finish an apartment building in 40 minutes and the pubs would say: "Well I got an hour!" Is it possible to send in hours retroactively? Using some of the methods here I guess I shortchanged myself a few thousand hours.

It was always my experience that transfers of records were initiated with correspondence. The only exception is when a new Bethelite was accepted they could bring their records with them.

It really is funny how the brothers always fall back on having the "truth" when it's pointed out in minute detail how wrong the org. has been in the past, present and will be in the future.

Sunday's WT study
by RunningMan ini need some information, and i hope that someone on this forum can help me.. yesterday, my mother in law was telling my wife about the wonderful wt study yesterday morning.
apparently, it was the one where they discuss the annual report for last year.. she mentioned that the article pointed to a 30% increase in baptisms.
since we don't have the article, we have no idea what she is talking about.

Did they leave the increase/decrease off the report?
