My sister-in-law looks exactly like Uma Thurmon. I've tried for years to get her to dress up for Halloween in that yellow biker uniform she wears in the movie. So far no luck.

Welcome Marion!!!My dad couldn't give up smoking either when they banned it. He was disfellowshipped and later died in 1978. My mom still holds out hope that he will be resurrected but still wonders since he was disfellowshipped when he died. I remember the brothers telling my mom afterward that Jehovah knows what was in his heart and he will resurrect him. Well then, why was he disfellowshipped in the first place if Jehovah thinks his heart condition is good enough to be ressurected?
It really makes me mad that they would give people 6 months to stop smoking and then not offer any help such as counciling. I'm totally against smoking, but it is a real addiction that people need help in quiting. You just can't tell people to stop or else we will kick you out of our club. Just goes to show you how out of touch they are with the real world.
BTW: I'm patiently waiting for your next installment. What a wonderful story.

My friend was "announced" last night!
by fullofdoubtnow inmy friend marion, who i've posted about on here, was announced at last nights meeting as being no longer one of jehovahs witnesses.
she sent a da letter in recently, and of course the elders tried to get her to change her mind, but she insisted, and threatened to forward a copy to the uk hq, so they made the announcement.. she had a phone call from her jw son just now, and not a pleasant one at that.
he asked her how she could be so stupid, and told her that this was the last call of any kind he would be making to her, and she won't be allowed to see her grandchildren again until she comes to her senses.

Instead of going to the assembly.....
by Dawn inlast year i seriously thought of going to the summer district convention for a day or two just to listen to the information once again now that i've been out so long.
i thought it would be interesting to hear it "as an outsider" - but i just could not make myself go.
i found too many other things that i would much rather spend my time at during the summer months.. so i thought it would be fun to list a few of the things i have actually done now instead of going to assemblies, meetings, or field service:boating/water skiingfishingcampingstudy dance (i danced in my first public performance this past summer!

Moutain Biking on Sunday mornings
Karate on Thursday evenings
Tuesday evening is cheap night at the movie, so the wife and I go often.
Use my vacation time to go to the beach, mountain bike trips, visit family instead of attending assemblies.

Most people are burned out on all organized religions
by free2beme ini know we always think and talk about how when we left the witnesses, we felt burned out on organized religion as a whole.
we felt it was caused by our time as witnesses, and the burn out we felt from knowing so much about other religions and our "suppose" knowledge on the bible.
here is the thing, since leaving the witnesses and talking to people who have never spent any time in the witness religion.

I agree, I think most people a getting burned out on organized religion. My wife was raised a fundamental basptist, which is almost as bad as the Witnesses. She and I want nothing to do with orgnaized religion. I really believe that religion was created to control mankind.

Way back when, I was dating this really cute pioneer sister even though I wasn't baptised yet. I was studying and almost ready. Well the elders decided she shouldn't be seeing me so they had her stop accepting my calls and told me I couldn't see her anymore. Of course at the time I accepted it and just went on. I think I was actually more mad at her for giving into them.
Oh well, it all worked out for the best. I''ve been out for over 10 years and I'm married to an incredible girl. Best thing that ever happened to me.

Artificial Insemination
by noontide inim a long time lurker, first time poster.
my question is this; if a sister in the congregation decided she wanted to have a baby, but was not married and went to a fertility clinic and was artificially inseminated, could she be disfellowshiped?
she didnt have sex, so she did not commit fornication.

It always bothered me how the bible says adultery and fornitcation are wrong, but many kings and holy men in the bible had multiple wifes and concumbines (sp).

How deep did you search to finally quit being a JW?
by JH inin my case, i never did much research or read alot of apostate literature to get out of the jw religion.
all i looked at was their heart and how they treated me.
that alone spoke for itself..

No research here. My old congregation had lots of love but the new one I moved to could have cared less about me. Even though I was very active in the FS and at the meeting. Only one phone call in over 4 years. Mind you I had moved to a new town were I didn't know anyone. Even when I was sick and missed work and meeting for 2 weeks, not one phone call to check on me. Just a "where have you been" when I started back to the meeting. My "worldly" workmates came to visit and help me out. That really made me think. So one day at a Curcuit Assemlby a was looking around and realized how miserable I was. I got up and left in the middle of the program. Never went back after that. Only later did I start searching the internet and found Freeminds.org and this site. Now I'm finding lots of information so I can help my family out when the time is right.
