Or last night I hung out with an old friend. She's always been strange to me. We don't really believe in the same things but I always thought of her as a good person that was still fun to be around (in small doses) even if we had disagreements.
I hadn't seen her in a year or so. She showed me her engagement ring....and I told her I was happy for her. Even if her boyfreind is 30 years older than her. Then she told me that she was expecting to have a kid by next year....and I asked her why she was in her hurry. Somehow (I was tired and don't remember exactly where it went crazy) the topic changed---see, she considers herself a good christian and brings it up all the time with me knowing that I don't believe...all I remember is asking her what she would do (for a job since her boyfriend's not loaded) after having a baby and she went off on this thing about her boyfriend not wanting her to work. I asked if she was being realistic and also that it didn't really matter what her husband to be wanted. AND then she said " women should obey their husbands."
I was dumbfounded. She's still in her 20s and was never a JW or other religion like it but she still has that mindset. I didn't bring up what my mother went through--being left with 5 kids to raise and support after years of being a housewife. I was speechless...I just don't expect this kind of blind BS from young women. I don't know know how to approach this again with her.

An E-mail encounter.....
by AK - Jeff inlike most of us here, i have lost all my so called 'friends' from the organization.
i held out hope that an old friend would at least continue to be friendly over email, but alas no!
we had a series of emails in which his single goal was to guilt me into returning to 'the flock', but each time he refused to even consider what i had to say.

I agree...you need to share it...especially for those that are lurking or googling. Very glad you did.
Hey, I know I can always count on you for support as well. You're a good person Jeff.

mmmm....
I like a good merlot but I also like Silver Lake reisling.
I love coffee in general. Blue Mountain I've found to be the best though...and most expensive.
I like all kinds of beer...I usually favor Northwest beers though....I'm loyal to a fault, no?
I love pizza but I really love a good crust. Georgio's in San Francisco is good--just plain chease or with olives or maybe even jalepenos. Jet City up in the northwest has an okay crust but they stopped making the mexican (taco) pizza that was the best. SO, screw them for not making it anymore.

I'm sorry Jeff. It's tough to lose people....easpecially when it's got something like the WTS involved and you know it's bs.
Just know you have friends and an ear to listen to your troubles.

I don't hate all cops. I've been helped by more than one. I think the idea of the police is a good one. BUT I also think that as human beings we have the problem of taking on stereotypes and taking our authority to an extreme unless we're aware of what we're capable of and have others watching and not giving in to the good guy/bad guy scenerio. http://www.prisonexp.org/
I've been screwed over by a couple cops that decided not to file reports they were required to file....another decided that a guy following me around for 3 years wasn't stalking me and so until a 911 operator got involved the guy was never warned. Also had an ex-boyfriend that was caught speeding that was told that if he could run up a hill he was near and grab a twig off a bush at the top of the hill...and make it back down in 3 minutes he wouldn't get a ticket--I was with him so I know it happened.
There are good cops--as others have stated. BUT there are bad cops and also sheep that follow other corrupt cops.

I have to go with Hubert on this...I think it was good advice. I know the part about accepting it is hard to take but we all have to do that whether it's right or not. But she pointed out that this person should try to stay in contact--whether or not the mother wanted that contact.
Was it that you got angry about this because it happens in general? Or was it the response?

Hey there Arnie. Welcome to the board. I think you'll find a lot of us here have gone through or are going through a similiar thing. It's a long hard process but the key is you're dealing with it. Just know that in realizing what you now do about JWs that you're brave and you can get through just about anything now.

Were there as many 1st century converts as the bible says?
by gumby inthe bible tells us that christians had multiplied rapidly shortly after christs death.
are the figures accurate?.
acts 2:41 says that after hearing teachings by peter "the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

This is why the bible can't be used as a record.
