I know this topic has been covered before but found this page to be quite interesting:

I have highlighted somethings I found particularly intesting.
Cake
During Roman times, wheat and later, cake crumbs were thrown at brides (and grooms) to bless them with fertility. The cakes were, at first, biscuits or scones. These were made by the guests and piled high during the festivities. A clever French baker created the decorated multi-tiered cake from the "piled high" concept
Guess no more cakes should be allowed at witness weddings! If they want to be so particular about pagan customs and all...
also:
Flower Toss
In a gesture of sharing the good fortune, the bride tosses flowers (a symbol of fertility and frailty) to unmarried maidens
Haven't been to a witness wedding reception where the flowers weren't thrown!
I'm sure there are HUNDREDS of things that have *pagan* origins that happen everyday that they are unaware of. If they (the JWs) want to avoid pagan customs they should go live in a self contained walled in city and start from scratch. Everything we do now is based on something in the past. There is no way to escape it, and to try to dictate as a matter of law which customs your followers can or cannot follow is absurd. If something bothers you because it really bothers you, then don't do it! But just don't do it because a group of men in Brooklyn says you can't do it.
betweenwords (of the needs to vent class)
PS: HAPPY YULE AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
