hello folks, this is the first topic i've started, so bear with me please.. i had searched the internet to try and find my way, made a stop here a couple of years ago but just now decided to join.
anyhoo, in all my searching i've realized that many ex-jws aren't dealing well.
that raises a question for me, because after finally reading the gospels i realized jesus would never treat people the way the gb does even in the interest of keeping a congregation clean (which is a joke, btw).. the anger seems to come out of nowhere.
atypical.....Good point about learning to be selfish. I can't speak for anyone else raised as a JW as I was, but even at 54 yo and having been inactive for over three years now, my personal boundaries are all over the place. I have a terrible time knowing when to say no and I feel guilty anytime that I do.
These are lessons one should have learned early on. I am learning them now but find myself often regressing to old habits. One day at a time as they say. It is getting better.
i just wonder if i have any fellow buddies out there im missing out on having fabulous times with.

Not from there but actually there are several congs in Vegas/Henderson area. So much construction and growth there that it is sort of a Mecca for those bro's in the construction trades. At least that is what I've been told.

I don't daytrade. I've heard too many horror stories. Swing trading sounds interesting, though. Most of my current portfolio is long term. What is your software of choice? I recently ordered Metastock to give it a look. I use TC2005 but want to be able to backtest some ideas.

You are right on IP_SEC, the other sheep are the gentiles. Read 2nd chapter of Ephesians, particularly verses 11-22. There, Paul describes the gentile christians in similar terms to Jesus description of the other sheep in John.
I read those scriptures a thousand times and it never clicked until I shed the WT bias with which I had read the bible.

for instance , if you were not making enough money to cover your unexpected expenses would you pray specifically to god for that expense or expenses to be covered?

I have not seen it. My sister committed suicide in spite of my prayers that Jehovah help her. She also insisted to the end that she loved Jah. I get a little nauseous now when I hear stories about how suicidal people have prayed to God to show them they way and shortly thereafter JW's show up and save their lives.
I want to believe he is there but can't say for sure I have much faith anymore.
Prophecor..... I have heard people tell stories like yours. The only specific example of what you believed to be intervention is the one about your alternator. I could never understand why God would intervene for your alternator when he would not for my sister, or the other families I know who have lost there only children in car accidents, or to cancer.
here are a few facts that i have recently discovered by doing some research.. the watchtower society uses the date of 539 b.c.e as the date that cyrus took over babylon.
they use the term "absolute date" to define this as an unquestionable point in time.
to do this they had to ignore 586 b.c.e which is the real date for the destruction of jerusalem.. therefore, if jerusalem never lay desolate for 70 years, when does this desolation and fulfillment of this prophecy take place?
Bluegrass.....forget the 2,520 years. Look at the prophecy in Jeremiah and it plainly states that the 70 years were years of servitude to Babylon, not 70 years of desolation. Judah was servant to Babylon long before the temple was destroyed.

there seem to a commonality around here about active jw parents shunning us.. my question is: if your parents weren't a jw, do you think they would be normal, act kindly, be a real parent to you?
or would they still be cold and callused towards you, controlling, etc.
my thought is this, so many times i used to think i wish my mom wasn't a jw because then i thought she would be this wonderful caring mother that i could go to lunch with, share shopping days with, recipes, and we'd be close.
Pessemistic, depressed people, manipulative people seem to be attracted to the WTS because they share the same worldview. Thus, I believe that while the WT lifestyle may exacerbate the problem, it does not necessarily cause it. I know JW's who are upbeat, my mother is not one of them.
