  Does Knowing the Truth Make you a Happier person?

  many of us who were once jehovah's witnesses had a measure of happiness in our lives.

  for me, i had a hope in the future, i had answers as to why we are all here, i believed in a loving god who looked after me and cared about me, i had answers to all of lifes big questions.. when i found out the truth about the witnesses, i was lost in a great big world and now had no answers other than the fact that what i once believed was "the truth" in actuality wasn't the truth.i now had to start all over in my search for truth.

  for me, it wasn't long before i found what i thought was the truth since i always believed in the bible.

  Hey Gumbum!

  IMO, the REAL truth has been hidden by those having the power to do so. This has been ongoing for millennia. It's an extremely difficult journey for anyone who wants the answers to questions such as who/what created us or did we evolve...what is the eventuality for the earth and humankind...do we enter another phase of existence after dying or do our atoms merely become assimilated by the universe, etc. We may embrace evolution, or Jesus, or reincarnation, but is it the truth? There ARE answers, but we may never get them during our lifetime. The Borg attracted truthseekers from the world by proclaiming itself the be-all end-all of truth. The reality is that for over a hundred years millions have been lied to and abused, and the chicanery continues. You know the truth about "the truth". Unfortunately, your family does not. How much patience do you have, waiting for them to come to the same realization as you have about the JW religion? I'm afraid your inner self will be in turmoil until all whom you love follow you out the door. It cannot be any other way for one who loves his/her family and the truth.

  Just watched "Knocking" last nite

  well, i felt it would be inappropriate to write a letter to pbs complaining about their airing of this documentary, "knocking", without having seen it myself, so i ordered a copy at the exorbitant cost of about $36, and it took over a month for it to arrive.

  i agree with gary buss, that it is very polished and well-done.

  The question is--When are we as XJW's gonna do a good counter video to knocking? Will PBS give us the same backing that they have given the JW's? Will we ever have our chance to speak and let them know the damage the JW's have done in our lives and marriages?

  A nice grass roots campaign of anti-JW tracts placed on laundromat tables, jammed in pay phones and left in hospital waiting rooms would do the trick. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an UN-biased JW video.

  I was aware of the comments from Insight. I find them to be lacking in weight.

  Most of us here do, also. It keeps the dubs happy, though.

  Before you get too excited, Insight on the Scriptures V.1 pg. 984 states:

  A passage that has caused some difficulty is found at 2 Samuel 21:19, where it is stated: "Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite got to strike down Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like the beam of loom workers." The parallel account at 1 Chronicles 20:5 reads: "Elhanan the son of Jair got to strike down Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like the beam of loom workers."
  Several suggestions have been made for an explanation of the problem. The Targum preserves a tradition that Elhanan is to be identified with David. The Soncino Books of the Bible, edited by A. Cohen (London, 1951, 1952), comment that there is no difficulty in the assumption that there were two Goliaths, commenting also that Goliath may have been a descriptive title like "Pharoah," "Rabshakeh," "Sultan." The fact that one text refers to "Jaare-oregim," whereas the other reads "Jair," and also that only the account in Second Samuel contains the term "Bethlehemite [Heb., behth hal-lach-mai']," while the Chronicles account alone contains the name "Lahmi ['eth-Lach-mi']," has been suggested by the majority of commentators to be the result of a copyist's error.

  thank you for this place in cyber space, this is therapy for me.

  there is something about writing things down, that helps put things in perspective........ the day i left it was pouring rain........i really screwed up, i found out the night before, as i was packing things up, that i had way under estimated how much stuff i had.

  i had two large suit cases (that i could barely shut the lids on) and a large army duffel bag.

  I think there's a whole new batch of dubs at the Newport Hall now. Don't recognize any of the names. Think they either replaced the joint or did a rehab recently. You should've had the honeymoon on Hog Island...at least you would've had some privacy and saved some $$$.

  From the All Scripture is Inspired of God and Beneficial book, Bible Book Number 62, 1 John, pgs. 256-257: John writes to protect his "beloved ones," his "young children," against the wrong teachings of the "many antichrists" that have gone out from among them and that are trying to seduce them away from the truth. (2:7, 18) These apostate antichrists may have been influenced by Greek philosophy, including early Gnosticism, whose adherents claimed special knowledge of a mystical sort from God.

  i've been re-thinking about what to say when jw's come knockin'.

  i've thought about what the scriptures say about jesus' words to the pharisees and think perhaps i might say, "i don't have any interest in the doctrines and writings of the scribes and pharisees of the wts.".

  or maybe i could just say, "yall're just wts nazis and you look down on everyone else as if they were jews during wwii, so i'd prefer not to converse with you.".

  how long before the lawyers attack the new sixscreens of the watchtower web site?

  i don't want it to happen but i bet it does.

  if it does i hope it gets a lot of publicity before it actualy goes down.the site is extremely well put together and has some info that i never seen before like some of the info on the cross.

  i have been going back and forth via email with a jw friend.

  the subject got around to 607 bce, so i asked her if she could find a non-wts source to prove that date.

  of course, she writes back telling me about all the complicated info.
