i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.
he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.

by bronzefist init's -5 with a minus 30-35 wind chill factor here so you would think the "loving elders" would cancel the sunday borefest.....nope.
just got a call...."well of course it was your choice, but there were 70 in attendance this morning!!!".
there have been meetings cancelled because of heavy snow, but give me a break going out could be dangerous.

Favorite Christmas movie
by poppers inalthough not a strictly "christmas" movie it has to be little women with winona ryder.
i recently saw the katherine hepburn version a few days ago and it was ok, but this one is really wonderful, with great music.

Interesting jgnat.
Basically I feel that as w/any relationship, there is something to be gained - be it companionship, security, and for some - material. With many, religion is a security blanket. People feel "safe".. their god protects them. They are right. Others are wrong. You know - Seuss' Star-Bellied Sneeches. Logic shuts off, specific rituals take over. "Answers to why" cause need for religion for many.. and the religious "snake oil" salesmen are eager to peddle their wares.
It's the basic animal need in all of us to survive and these Armageddon-based religions appeal to many who have separated from the mainstream and are looking for reassurance that they are on the "road to life".

Goodbye to JWD ... hello to JWN !
by Simon inas i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.

it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

See the movie "AUSTRALIA" with Kidman and Jackman!!
by Witness 007 inyes australia was bombed by the japanese in world war 2 in darwin....but this movie has so much more...this couple look fantastic together and the scenery gives you an idea of australias natural wonders.....will review film next week.
....must see!

Local Needs Talk....Why Are People Missing Meetings?

Makes me cringe to read these WT spiritually abusive tactics. As Gary Busse said, this is nothing new. They were ALWAYS on your ass to be at meetings. I remember they would say that one family member should be at the meetings (to represent that family) when there was sickness in the family. Even if it were a kid.. they could get a ride w/another witness.
There are still people in who believe this shit and families are suffering. It's sad.
