Sad news from Maui

we went to our favorite beach, met up with some of our local friends.

we don't have much in the way of details - but heard some devasting news that ari (well known to seattle area exjw's and i am sure by many on the board) killed himself sometime over last weekend.

he was so excited about moving to maui, and starting a new life here.

I feel very sad to read about your losses - your friend and daughter. As you said, shunning cuts to the heart. I had a mental breakdown a year after I DA myself. Before I did that when I was out and about the witnesses whom I had known for many years would turn their heads. Probably in the gossip pipeline that I was doing horrific things.

Shunning is emotionally damaging. I know that I was at the point of suicide, but my husband got me help. So I truly feel the pain that these two dear ones went through and from my husband the pain that the living would have.

I, too, remember the ban of E.T. He was likened to Christ in the scene where he is giving life or the other way around to the little boy. A lot of the fairy tales were a no no too.

I'll tell you what ladies. Being with a guy who is homosexual can be fun because you don't have to worry about him hitting on you. Just have a fun time. And I worked w/different lesbians. Very nice ladies. There's bad in individuals in all societies. I'm done with the days of judging. I believe in using your intuition and common sense which usually never fails you. You have to be careful too. Not all people, no matter what their choices are, are deserving of your trust and kindness. There are a lot of users and abusers out there.

Good evening, Mulan. Nice to read your post.

I, too, am a good "nana". Love my grandchildren and taking care of them. Love my adult kids.

I am patient, loyal, trustworthy, and kind with people.

I'm a very good floral designer.

I'm good at taking care of peoples' needs. Also, listening to their cares and worries.

I'm a good driver.

Enjoyed that Sparkplug. I'll be 57 this month and things are so different now than when I was young. A lot of people aren't satisfied with what they have; always want more. Also, we live in a "throw away" society. Discard good food that could be used for another meal, perfectly good items (but not the latest), not placing value on friendships, but throwing it all away because of some petty disagreement.

I'll get off my soapbox, but Gram's words of wisdom should always be remembered. Juni

i received my first elder call yesterday.

he wants to talk to me today.

i have never been afraid of the elders but i also have no experience on what they are going to say because i have never ask for their opinion on anything and i have never been accused of anything either so, any ex or current elders here that can brief me about what to expect?.

About friends in the cong. you hate to lose. You'll find that these friends if they are sincere about the religion WILL, WITHOUT A DOUBT, be cautious around you if you are sporadic about the mtgs., etc. If you don't follow your old routine they will know something is up. Your relationship w/them will never be the same as they are in and you are sitting on the fence. They will know that.

Unless a friend has doubts too that they've expressed or you really feel they have and you can bring it up with them, you can pretty much say good-bye to them. I'm not trying to bring you down - only speaking from my experience and other's.

Hi flag,

Do what's best for yourself first of all. Think, too, about your family. Speaking from experience, DON'T MEET W/THIS OLDER ELDER IF HE'S ALONE!!!! I speak from experience. No fool like an old fool.

HE COULD SLYLY GET INVOLVED IN YOUR LIFE ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU ARE 'WEAKER' IN THAT YOUR HUSBAND DOESN'T COME AND YOUR CHILDREN STAY HOME W/DAD.

This happened to me and found out later that 9 other sisters were involved, but I was the only one to come forward. Then we all were come down on for being naive!! It's a man's world in the org. Spare yourself pain.

Almost 3 years and they haven't been good w/their word to repay????? What the heck???

Where's the Society's help if cong. can't afford this bill? Don't want to stumble anyone or give the cong. a bad name, you know? Wouldn't this be classified as "conduct unbecoming a Christian" ?? But the lowly one would be DF over such a thing - not repaying a debt and bringing shame on the cong. At the least dragged into the "war room". Juni

Raymond Franz

raymond franz was a member of the governing body and was a jw for many years till he left.. he wrote a book which provides a great insight into jw's but what is really good about it is he isn't bitter when he comes across and so far i am really enjoying the read.. also in there are copies of letters sent from him to the society or the other way around and i recommend anyone who can find it should read it!.

JW Children, Holidays, and Memories

my husband and i were walking through the store today and we passed a display of valentines -- you know, the kind that school kids buy and exchange in the classroom.

i paused and glanced them over, remembering how much i used to love holidays at school.

(husband is an inactive/faded jw; i was never one.

Hi SLM,

I can only relate to what my kids went through. Some teachers were very unfriendly towards them because they were witness kids. Some kids also. Staying in the library or principal's office during holiday programs or parties was awful. I would pick them up if I weren't pioneering. I feel terrible to this day - even though they've got past it - for putting them through this.

Now we have fun w/the holidays. Juni~~~ :) P.S. For art projects that related to a holiday, they would be assigned to do a different art project/picture.

I wish I had that time back to enjoy these little things with them.

SUPERBOWL AND THE JWS

someone posted on another thread: the cong.

i came from we were not allowed to watch football though i'm sure some did on the sly.

football was likened to the christians being torn apart at the coliseum.

Hi Mary,

I was the one who wrote that our cong. was admonished not to have anything to do w/football (likened to Christians thrown to the lions and people watching it). Mind you, our cong. was EXTREMELY strict. I'm sure now though that many including elders did things differently outside of the Hall. Also, another cong. rule was that the young people were not to sit w/the opposite sex for lunch at circuit assemblies. It was awful considering we had 4 children being raised in the org.

I'm so happy we left. Only 1 of my kids goes w/his wife to a Lutheran church. The others are non religious, but fine, giving, responsible adults. Even if we hadn't been in the org., our kids would have been taught values, responsibility and being helpful to people.

This religion is not the only answer to having a happy life - though that's what they pound into you. Like I've said many times, if this truly is the religion that God approves - I don't want to worship a god like that.
