Struckinamovement: I feel your pain. I am in the same situation and have been for a long time. Let me tell you how I have dealt with this hell hole of a situation. First I knew that once I started to fade that my "friends" would mark me and you know what that means. So before any fading I made friends outside of the organization by joining various clubs/organizations. This would give me some sort of social life and being marked would not have the t raumatic impact. I did not totally fade as I still go once in a while to meetings and assemblies/conventions. This was to pacify my wife/ grown kids. So to help my conscience I decided on a goal. The goal was guerrilla warfare against this cult. I would seek out new ones or one that "think" and make comments to help them reason about how crazy this organization was. An example would be at the convention when a statement was made that is confusing I would say in a very sincere way "isn't it wonderful to be in a spiritual paradise". You should see the looks in these people. It is as if a light has been turned on and now they are on their way to freedom. I know of four different times people have left because of this. It gives me a warm feeling inside knowing I have helped others to freedom while staying back in this prison. PS: don't say anything that is impeachable. After 25 years the fight goes on..............

How many remmember the "Make Sure" book? I think many of the loyal Dubs were instructed to throw them out. You will not find it their library!
Look up the chapter: Chronology in this book and make copies of it to past out to new Dubs. Watch their expession!

My goodness all this went on at the Farm! Things sure changed from the time I was there in 72-76. Although two months after I was sent there from Brooklyn all the brothers were told to me in the parking lot next to building E. The Bethel office was looking for a red flannel shirt. Why? It seems that a sister was raped by someone wearing a red flannel shirt (from the const crew). They caught the person after going through every room. To this day 38 years later I will not by a red flannel shirt, every time I go to the store and see these shirts I am reminded of this incidence.
Afairs? Lord have mercey. There was a lot. I saw a lot. I think the main cause was that so many couples married within their own little area and for the first time they are now exposed to the big world. The sisters see all of these brothers that are charming, good looking etc. and realize what they missed. They are no longer satisfied with their home town husband. I had many sisters flirt with me and I would just blow it off but if I didn't it could have gone along way. Some brothers couldn't resist.
I know of one brother who was DF for a day. It seems that some sister he broke up with got mad and she and her friends "framed" him. This lie of theirs soon came to light and he was reinstated but was not aloud back at the Farm.

Were There/Are There A Number Of Gays At Bethel?
by minimus ini remember the "boy's club" mentality from many of the bethelites in the 70's and 80's.
it seemed there were a number of males who were "effeminate" back in the day.. i knew of one guy that was told by the bethel brass that he would "go places" at headquarters if he could learn to deepen his voice and tone down his gestures a bit (and he was told it wouldn't hurt if he ever married a fellow bethelite sister).
this man was extensively used at conventions, became less "gay looking" and got married.. so my question is, did you see effeminate men in bethel?

Yes there were a lot of gays in Bethel when I was there in the '70's. One of my room mates worked in the subscription dept. and later worked in treasury dept., was there for 20+years. Finally came out of the closet. I also had a room mate from San Fransico that was a hair dresser (yikes). Good room mates though. They had their own click and you knew who they were. There was a press operator that was very gay. Left after his four years and died of aids two after leaving.

I agree with most of what Randy says but with a slant. I do believe that many of the JWs around the world will begin to branch off from the mother org. and start their own form of JW org. All it takes is for one charismatic leader from the area (Africa, Japan or South America) to start throwing around his weight and feel some prower and its goodby WTBS. This has been repeated throughout history as cultures/relgion develop. This starting to develop can be seen in that the JWs in other countrys do have their own customs and is not uncommon for missionarys to be assigned to a branch to keep the locals in line with the company policy. After all most of the "big boys" in Brooklyn are white Americans.

'73: Colon Lake, #4 man in dispatch at Brooklyn runs off with a Gilead student
"73: I open up the housekeepers closet and find a married sister in the embrace of a new brother at Bethel. I was amazed at the number of affairs at Bethel. Of course you must understand that many of the couples that came to Bethel came from small towns that they grew in. Now they find themselves in the company of people from all over the country. They begin to realize that there is a big world out there with lots of people that they are now attracted too.
'73: Sister was raped at the Farm. She and her husband were there on construction and so was her rapist. The only sight she could remember was a red plaid shirt the rapist was wearing. After lunch all the brothers had to report to the parking lot north of the E building. While there the brothers from the Bethel office went through all the rooms of the single brothers looking for a "red plaid" shirt. Thank god I did not have one but there were some who did and they were "interviewed". To this day, after almost 37 years, I will not buy a red plaid.
'74 I saw on numberous times "married sisters" coming from rooms that were occupied by single brothers. This was always around midnight and they would turn off the lights in the hallways around 10:00 with only night lights to show the floor.
'75 Two of my best friends that were fellow press operators would stay with their wordly girlfriends on the weekend. They found their girlfriends while working at a bar in a local town nearby.
'76: Although not bad but funny: I was working late on a friends car and came back to my room around 11:00 Sat. night. I laid down on my bed to watch Sat nite Live. I had all of my dress clothes on and the lights off. The only light on in the room was from the TV. (my room mate was gone on vaction) After about a half hour the door opens to my room and a young (married) Gilead sister walks into my room and drops her bath rob to reveal a real sexy negligee. She says"I'm ready now sweetheart". At this point I sit up in bed and say "You have the wrong room". She grabed her bathrobe and proceeded to to run from my room and made a slight screem. At this point I think- How in the hell am I going to explain this! Fortunately no one noticed a half naked sister running from my room at midnite and nothing happened. When I went to breakfest the next morning my eyes could not help but fix on her. Thank goodness she did not notice me.
