Wow, great insight. I'd never thought the religious themes of this fil, probably because Blade Runner covers similar subject matter more eloquently. However, the described relationship between David and his creators, from the warm, trusting relationship in the first act, to the desperate search for answers and fulfilled promises in a cruel world in the second, to the underwhelming but satiating answers he finds from his own kind in the end mirrors my own spiritual quest. I started out trusting the WTS's admittedly comforting promises as a child myself. As a teenager and young man I was tormented by the disparity between fact and promise; ie science and the Bible, and as sure as David searches out the Blue Fairy I searched out the truth behind Noah's Ark, Adam & Eve, etc. The advanced robots are able to give David a sense of closure that doesn't come close to him becoming human. The answers I found outside the WTS are equally disappointing and comforting. So I won't live forever in Paradise. But at least now I know the truth.

1) That believing every ghost story but calling the boogeymen "ghosts" instead of "demons" isn't what makes a person superstitious
2) That the early Christians they claim to emulate didn't publish two bi-monthly magazines and distribute them door to door and turn in their time
3) That the End isn't getting nearer and nearer as the years pass 1914, it's getting farther and farther away

What's next for the Watchtower in 2005?
by truthseeker inafter all the events of 2004 regarding the botchtower, what do you think will happen next year?.
i can think of a few events.. first of all, 70 years will have passed since rutherflawed took on the name "jehovah's witnesses" - a gross misapplication of that scripture in isaiah.. all the new man presses will be operational - already, the wt have increased their watchtower circulation.. "godly obedience" district convention next summer - we all know what that will be about; and don't forget the layman's km article on how to book a hotel, and not just any hotel at that either.. a new book to replace "organised to accomplish our ministry".
bro barr of the governing body turns 100 (i think this is correct).

I don't know exactly how CRS is related to the Catholic Chiuch, but the WTS doesn't have the membership or the money that the Catholics do, although we all know that isn't the real reason for them not making mention of this (yet). Naturally, they'd only help out the local Witnesses first. Which, truth be told, wouldn't you be pissed if you were a Witness affected and the WTS donated time and money to non-Witnesses before you, with so few resources to go around?

A Loving organization?
by startingover inlast saturday an old friend of ours took her life.
she and her husband had almost been married 25 years, and we had known her longer than that.
she was like a little sister to my wife.

Because of such fine purposes being served, it seems that a Christian minister could see his way clear to conduct the funeral of a Witness? unbelieving relative?or even of one who, in a condition of extreme despondency or mental derangement, had taken his own life. And fellow Christians could extend comfort to the bereaved Witness by attending.
I love it, "extreme despondency or mental derangement" in a suicide. Gee, ya think? As opposed to all the other people who kill themselves just for the hell of it, right?

Rutherford came to power around World War One. We all know there was a spike in nationalism and militarism (is that even a word?) around that time. Prior to this, it was fashionable for men to have both beards and shoulder-length hair, afterwards the clean-cut military look was in: no beards and short hair. So much for "quit being fashioned after the things in this world." Now they defend it with circular logic, "You shouldn't grow a beard because none of the other brothers grow them."
Seriously, though: isn't the beard rule the most pharisaical thing you've ever heard of in modern times?
