Young JWs..damned if they do and damned if they don't!!!!!

the july 1st watchtower is one that i'm sorely tempted to kick into oblivion....yes it irritated me greatly.....mind control at its bluntest!.

young jws are being encouraged to stop dilly dallying around and get dunked!!!!.

What gets me is the demeaning way in which the Watchtower talks down to "young ones." If the article was addressed to the general JW public, it would read like this:

True Christians are free to determine for themselves where that people (a people for his name) is to be found.

Instead of the usual third-person reference, which can seem condescending enough, we get this ultra-direct, almost scolding tone:

'You young people are free to determine for yourselves where that people (a people for his name) is to be found.

Lay it on thick, Watchtower. See where it gets you.

I might be going back to the kingdumb hall !!

i'm thinking about going back to the meetings.

hopefully just sunday meetings for awhile.

not because i want to or that i feel any inward guilt to return.

Oh, I feel your pain, my brother. I haven't been to a meeting since last July, and goddamn does it feel good! But Memorial's coming up. I was forced to move back in with my parents, and let me tell you, I am not looking forward to the "I'm-not-going-to-Memorial" conversation.

A question for my atheist friends.

i can certainly understand why many turn atheist but what would you tell your 5 year old daughter who was conscience but dying on a hospital bed looking into your eyes?

would you be inclined to give her some hope of a better place even though you didnt believe it yourself?

Where would she be going? What if she asked you that question?

No child would ever ask such a contrived question unless someone else put that idea into his or her head. Why would this child assume that you "go" anywhere when you die? Why would anyone, for that matter? Utterly ridiculous.

Maybe we should just round up all the holocaust deniers into some kind of camp so we can concentrate them all in one area. That wouldn't be the least bit hypocrital.

Gopher hit it right on the head when he mentioned the paranoia of wondering which of the kids at school would grow up to be the U.N. corporal to storm my house searching for contraban Watchtower literature and murder my family. And even as I outgrew this fear, realizing my peers weren't totalitarian timebombs, two scriptures ruined my life. Two scriptures:

"Friendship with the world is emnity with God"

and, of course,

"Bad association spoils useful habits"

They were always lurking in the back of my mind. As soon as I started to have a good time. As soon as I discovered the true meaning of the word "fun," my cult programming told me I was alienating God because I dared share a sense of comraderie with a non-Jehovah's Witness. I'll never forget, at age 17, my mohter forbidding me to apply for an afterschool retail job because it would be difficult not to fraternize with "those people" after hours. I guess she figured the people there might want to befriend her son, the dumb rotten bastards.

but the book of noah clearly suggests that the angels were its builders.

On a secular basis, if you concede that a pet rat as has more neural tissue than a 16-week fetus (which is true), it is hard to see abortion as barbaric if carried out early (as is the case in a society with decent health systems and liberal attitudes towards sex and sex education).

What many consider barbaric is that if you concede the living entity in question is your son or daughter (which is true), comparing him or her to a vermin worthy of extermination is disconcerting. Wasn't there a Watchtower article comparing worldly people to rats not long ago?
