i haven't been to a "worldly" funeral...well ever that i can remember.
all the funerals i have been to have been jw ones where they use it as another opportunity to preach to everyone in sight.
they usually make a token mention of the dead loved one and then begin with the resurrection and earthly paradise and how you have to be a jw to get there.. today i went to my aunts funeral.

I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt sweetie! But it always makes me feel so much better to hear of endings like hers though! I certainly hope my funeral is similar - one where my life spurs others to think about what's important to them. But I want my funeral to be a happy occasion with lots of good memories being shared.

PS: I've never thought about doing a will because I'm young, but this thread has made me re-think that!
my wife and i are moving 3000 miles away so that we can fade away as jehovah's witnesses.
i am looking for suggestions as to what i should do about our publisher record cards (keep them in pa?, get them forwarded to seattle?
) so that we can start our lives on the west coast with a fresh start and so we'll just be left alone...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to be a stick in the mud. But I'm standing with Logical on this one. The point is that Christ died a painful and slow death on something in order to atone for mankind's sin. The point is that he died. Not whether he died on a cross or a stake or a tree.
Like most times the JW's lose sight of the POINT and focus on details that are irrelevant to worshipping God. (i.e. Like you MUST wear white shirts or you MUST drive a 4-door car, or men MUST not let their hair touch their collars.) The thought that people with colored shirts, long hair, driving a Kharmangiah just CANNOT worship God fully is ridiculous!! Ooooh. Just steams me up thinking about it!

back when i was a lusty young lad of 17, a certain sister caught my eye - i swear that she could make her eyelashes beckon - and i duly decided to pay court to said sister.. however, it was not to be so simple.
round about that time, it would have been mid-60's, the wtbts were having a real downer on anyone who wore a short skirt (not me), danced the twist or grew their hair (me) over their ears.. but, the worse thing was still to come.
folks, i am talking about chaperoning!
From what I can understand from some JW boards, the chaperone thing is much more lax than when I was a dub. Most of them said the only time a chaperone was necessary was when the couple were in a private place. If the two were going to dinner or out in public the chaperone wasn't necessary. But if the sister was to cook dinner for the brother IN HER HOUSE (gasp!) then of course a chaperone was called for. I agree with so many others here though...a chaperone? Get real! You're telling yourself and others that you are NOT to be trusted because you NEED one. Silly!

when we have american jw relatives visit they are frequently shocked at the difference between how they live their lives and how jws over here live.
its almost as if we are from two different religions.. that divide seems to be getting wider.
i have noticed in the past two or three years a noticeable relaxation among british jws.
"if the JW's were as relaxed here as in Britain (you could celebrate holidays, maybe no disfellowshipping) would you be a witness again???

the thought would carry if the person appeared to be repentant what would be the action then?

Seriously, I do not have a fear of death. Like others I have a fear of pain that could lead to death. I'm allergic to pain! But death itself I do not fear. I think it will be a peaceful state.

it's funny how 2 hours can make you question the doubts you've had for months.
just got home from the hall after speaking with an elder... had a friendly chat about my doubts... finally culminating in my admitting that i didn't believe the discreet slave really existed, and that all my jw beliefs were non-existent.

Many have been in your same position. You're not alone! I struggle with the same issues with my JW parents and I'm 30. I want to tell them everything I've learned, but have a hard time "talking" in a way that gets my points across. One of these days...
College is a very liberating experience. It was for me anyway. Yes, I was surprised at how many people had never even heard of JWs! Shocked me really! Everyone knew about the ministry work right? Nuhhuh. The Elders want to pump up your ego about being a JW. That it is a worldwide known thing. College woke me up to the falsehood in that statement. College woke me up to a lot of things. Keep it up. You'll be surprised at how much you'll learn about Truth! (It ain't in the Watchtower!)
