I had always being questioning and picking up on things. So it was not surprise but I think the they were surprised at the level of resistance and anger against the witnesses. So as I became an adult they never tried to bring up any witness crap. I in return did not verbally attack there belief system.

Having just past 50 I have been reflecting on my childhood with the witnesses. The people I grew up with who are the same age with elderly parents some still alive.
I tend to have a positive attitude but I realise that for me this is it. I enjoy life have good friends, employment and a loving husband. When I see a j dub I grew up with I feel a sadness from them. I am a reminder that all the things that were promised have not occurred, that when they mention the resurrection/armageddon I just smile and change the subject.
Its seems that there faith is all they have to cling to and that time is making them look foolish. They are old and have not grown with time in terms of education, wealth and developing true unconditional friendships. I used to think this may create a ciris of faith for them but its all they have and if they do start to queation there beliefs it means they have wasted there lives.
Do you have contact with an elderly JW? how are they dealing with aging?

MINIMUS - If You Could Tell A Jehovah's Witness One Thing?
by The Searcher ingood question, but i can't add a reply to your op.. my statement would be this - "if your governing body is god's direct channel of communication on earth, why did god use babylon the great to reveal a 'new light' to let you all know that the 'evil slave' isn't real, it's "hypothetical"?.
after which, the wtbts plagiarised the idea and presented it as a "new understanding/clarification" in their watchtower magazine.. please read the net bible at matthew 24:48, then read the footnote.

My life has been great since leaving the witnesses. I am sorry and you have got older, poor and your children do not help you out but that was a choice you made when you decided to belive the caretaker, window washer and cleaner (really they are)who have never been the three wise men. I sorry that you have spent 40 years waiting for armageden so you have no money and are still living in cold rental accomodation. I am sorry that people you love have died waiting for something that will never happen. I am glad that you have faith but I was there for 1975 and I remember that prophecy as much as you want to forget it.
I say this as I am over 50 now so the witnesses I grew up with are 50 and above. When I do see them (its a small town) they just seem sad.

Did you ever attend meetings while on vacation?
by keyser soze ini remember when i was a kid going on vacation somewhere with my family, my parents would always have to find out where the local kingdom hall was.
god forbid we should miss a meeting because we were actually enjoying our time away from work and school..

Meetings and assemblies were my vacation. My parents also made them educational by taking me to visit landmarks. No musems or art that may have lead me enjoy myself. LOL

It may have discussed elsewhere but should not the fact its nearly 100 years since Jesus came invisibly. This should be ringing alarm bells for the 50 year olds and upwards age group. Or has this generation will not pass away being passed over for new light??

Was Your Leaving The Witnesses A Very Gradual Process Or A Quick One?
by minimus infor me, it took many years.. even when i would read all the changes over the years from the "truth", i still would ignore it and "wait on jehovah" and try to be a positive force in the congregation.. eventually, i just couldn't take it anymore and resigned as an elder, and slowly but surely made my fade.. what about you?
were you out, in a short or longer time?

Quick. Arguing with my father yet again about going to the meetings (I was 15). He slammed on the brakes of the car. Said I didn't have to go if I didn't want to. Opened the car door walked home. Elders asked through my dad to meet with me. Told Dad to tell them to get lost, bunch of dirty old men. I did attend an international convention for about 30 mins after this many years later to help my aging parents.

Meet up wth an old friend of my parents. It was sad, Mable in her 80's husband is 91 and falling apart. Off course to start with it was Armageddon must be soon. I pointed out that the generation time line has since expired( from the 1970,s) and it wasn't the first time the witnesses had got is wrong. But for Mable the fact that Armageddon has not come and not in there lifetime means little as she cleans up after her husband incontinence.
The elderly of the congregation must despair that Armageddon has not come. Relatives/ex friends that have left probably look at then with pity or humor. Time has proved the die hards wrong and they irrelevant to all.

What Made You Question "The Truth"?
by minimus inin the the early 1970's, i used to enjoy going to assemblies, conventions and hear special talks given by bethel heavies.. in those days, we were believers and we applied ourselves as "ministers" with pride.. once the "end" was obviously not within our "generation", many of us started losing interest.. we started to think more critically.
it took a long time but once you start recognizing the bullsh*t, it's hard to stay in and truly believe at the same time.. .

I have a vivid memory of watching the news on TV (black and white) and asking why if we were so loving and caring why won’t aren’t we like the red cross they helped people.
Now years later I can’t remember the answer but the logic still sticks with me. I was comparing the rhetoric to the deeds. Was the beginning of the end for me? Maybe or an awareness that something was wrong and starting to question. I must have been 7-8 years at the time.

Why does God permit suffering? Don't let others answer this question for you
by sabastious inwasn't the answer to this question wrapped up in a neat little package when you were young?
it was easily explainable and it made you feel so warm inside that you knew that god felt passionately bad about the suffering and that it was going to stop.. there is so much pain in this world.
people are starving, people are being torchered by others who have lost their minds, there is endless suffering on this planet.

I am sorry I don't understand. Why would a fictional character be responsible for suffering?
