Meetings and assemblies were my vacation. My parents also made them educational by taking me to visit landmarks. No musems or art that may have lead me enjoy myself. LOL

Did you ever attend meetings while on vacation?
by keyser soze ini remember when i was a kid going on vacation somewhere with my family, my parents would always have to find out where the local kingdom hall was.
god forbid we should miss a meeting because we were actually enjoying our time away from work and school..

It may have discussed elsewhere but should not the fact its nearly 100 years since Jesus came invisibly. This should be ringing alarm bells for the 50 year olds and upwards age group. Or has this generation will not pass away being passed over for new light??

Was Your Leaving The Witnesses A Very Gradual Process Or A Quick One?
by minimus infor me, it took many years.. even when i would read all the changes over the years from the "truth", i still would ignore it and "wait on jehovah" and try to be a positive force in the congregation.. eventually, i just couldn't take it anymore and resigned as an elder, and slowly but surely made my fade.. what about you?
were you out, in a short or longer time?

Quick. Arguing with my father yet again about going to the meetings (I was 15). He slammed on the brakes of the car. Said I didn't have to go if I didn't want to. Opened the car door walked home. Elders asked through my dad to meet with me. Told Dad to tell them to get lost, bunch of dirty old men. I did attend an international convention for about 30 mins after this many years later to help my aging parents.

Meet up wth an old friend of my parents. It was sad, Mable in her 80's husband is 91 and falling apart. Off course to start with it was Armageddon must be soon. I pointed out that the generation time line has since expired( from the 1970,s) and it wasn't the first time the witnesses had got is wrong. But for Mable the fact that Armageddon has not come and not in there lifetime means little as she cleans up after her husband incontinence.
The elderly of the congregation must despair that Armageddon has not come. Relatives/ex friends that have left probably look at then with pity or humor. Time has proved the die hards wrong and they irrelevant to all.

What Made You Question "The Truth"?
by minimus inin the the early 1970's, i used to enjoy going to assemblies, conventions and hear special talks given by bethel heavies.. in those days, we were believers and we applied ourselves as "ministers" with pride.. once the "end" was obviously not within our "generation", many of us started losing interest.. we started to think more critically.
it took a long time but once you start recognizing the bullsh*t, it's hard to stay in and truly believe at the same time.. .

I have a vivid memory of watching the news on TV (black and white) and asking why if we were so loving and caring why won’t aren’t we like the red cross they helped people.
Now years later I can’t remember the answer but the logic still sticks with me. I was comparing the rhetoric to the deeds. Was the beginning of the end for me? Maybe or an awareness that something was wrong and starting to question. I must have been 7-8 years at the time.

Why does God permit suffering? Don't let others answer this question for you
by sabastious inwasn't the answer to this question wrapped up in a neat little package when you were young?
it was easily explainable and it made you feel so warm inside that you knew that god felt passionately bad about the suffering and that it was going to stop.. there is so much pain in this world.
people are starving, people are being torchered by others who have lost their minds, there is endless suffering on this planet.

I am sorry I don't understand. Why would a fictional character be responsible for suffering?

Sorry I just see it (feel it) as the cost of travel. I also think that privacy is becoming an outdated concept.

How many of you atheists, agnostics, deists are celebrating Xmas??
by SweetBabyCheezits inwe are celebrating xmas this year for the first time.
it's kinda weird because, even though we're doing a xmas tree, decorations, gifts, we're more or less taking the christ out of christmas.
so how about the rest of you non-christian heathens?.

Me Me Me.
I have a tree with a train running around it with a pile of decorations. I don't care about the religious crap etc its all about fun. Nothing says fun like getting and giving presents. I am banned from getting up before 6 am to open the presents.
At the age of 48 I spend a day behaving like a child who never had christmas and boy do I make up for it now
