  The Young Witness Exodus Continues

  i just found out that , on my wife's side of the family, the last witness kid has given up!.

  he was the very last one in that half of our extended witness family.

  There eyes were like looking into a void. Faces just blank and placid. What a waste of lives.

  Long gone are the days when younger ones were excited and engaged about the Watchtower's message. Remember how jam-packed with excitement the young ones were in the years leading up to 1975? Young "worldly" ones literally came in off the street and wanted to study!

  I doubt very much if my JW cousins will ever leave the religion, but nor do I think they will ever - or could ever - be passionate and committed about their beliefs. There is a crippling, stifling, life-sapping apathy about their JW religiosity. The above quote by GetBustLiving describes their demeanour and countenance so well.

  watchtower red flags

  when i was studying and in the org i never did put two and two together becuase first off it was peer pressure and a young baptism age.

  i was indoctrinated as a child so i never got a chance to ever use sound reason and judgement toword the validity of the society's claims.

  but anywho i was thinking the other day about certain things that are obvious red flags and far fetched claims that the org makes.

  JW Ben: Your willingness to communicate and discuss ideas with ex-JWs really impresses me.

  Increasingly over the years I've noticed how scared of in-depth discussions many JWs have become. I'd like to think that your example will be emulated by other JWs.

  I have long thought that Bible truth should be able to stand up to scrutiny, and that if "truth" needs to be protected from inquiring minds, it is not truth at all, but a vain fabrication.

  Your willingness to exchange ideas is a refreshing exception in a religion that shrinks from meaningful discussion.

  The young ones who actually leave the religion form one pattern. Another pattern I see comprises young ones who stay but who are chronically apathetic, a sure drain on the Watchtower:

  Of all my young cousins who are third generation JWs none are active, but because of family ties, they still identify themselves as JWs.

  As long as they do have to sign a form, stating that they believe certain teachings, they can in good conscience teach those schools.

  Thanks for this information. I didn't realise this. It would be interesting to know exactly what the form says and whether it was composed and/or sanctioned by the Watchtower Society.

  I guess the economic factor is the compelling one: If the JWs live in a predominantly Catholic country in which the educational institutions are run by the church, they may be able to "bend" the rules more so than in other countries where the secular authorities run the schools. At the end of the day, I'd say expediency would rule, so to speak, despite the turgidly detailed 1999 Letters From Readers in the Watchtower.

  Do you think of yourself as an apostate

  many of the people on this site say that they are apostates.

  but that is not the way i feel about myself.. i am not angry with the "witnesses" or the organisation, i don't feel that i wasted my life.

  i just think that i was stupid to believe it for 30 years (well sort of believe it, i did have severe doubts on and off).

  we are all apostates!!! It is not a dirty word to me any longer - but we fit the definition as has been posted here a thousand times.

  Right on, Jeff!! Besides, negative labels are vain attempts by a larger group to control a smaller group.

  To me there is something empowering in taking (some of) the labels others have put on me and saying, "I'm claiming this for myself", just as racial and ethnic minorities, women and gays have taken the seemingly derogatory labels in recent decades and started using those labels to their own advantage.

  Anything brought proudly out into the open has a greater likelihood of rising above the shame-inducing properties of a negative label.

  Is anyone planning on clapping when it is announced?

  Trouble is, the congregation would hear this as an endorsement of your appreciation of "food in due season". How about a "Woo-Hoo!" instead - there probably would be no mistaking this kind of over-the-top gesture.

  Hey Guys - easy now! I think you'll scare off JW Ben with your clarity and well-researched comments.

  Remember how, as JWs, you had to give the householder the truth in bite size portions. JW Ben may be experiencing spiritual indigestion right now.
