my mother told me about an interesting encounter she had last week with a young male jw who called on her offering her the latest magazines.

she did not know him and he appeared not to know her.

in a rare display of assertiveness, she interrupted his spiel, stating that she was just so sick and tired of the magazines going on all the time about how near the end is.

Why Is A "Non-violent" People So Violent To Its Young?

one of the anomalies of the jehovah's witness worldview is that it "carries" its non-violence hand-in-hand with some fairly violent practices towards its young ones.

so, the jehovah's witness father or mother who would reject any involvement in the military or "turn the other cheek" if physically attacked in field service, has no qualms about yanking their noisy child out of the kingdom hall and giving that child a good thrashing (i.e., beating on the buttocks, legs, arms and back) and creating an even greater noise.

i am not a parent, but over the years of observing parents - and others - hitting children both inside and outside the kingdom hall, it slowly occurred to me just what a barbaric practice this was.

many thanks for the people who answered my first question about whether appeals against disfellowshipping have ever been successful.

given that the appeal process may on rare occasions work in the individual's favour, does any one know

i hear a lot of talk about the watchtower's provision of allowing appeals of local elders' decisions to disfellowship fellow witnesses.

but does anyone know if such appeals have ever gone in the complainant's favour?

i very much doubt if anyone who has been disfellowshipped has ever successfully appealed the decision.

it's not a new phenomenon; i think freud called it "reactive formation".

i notice every now and then, jws and/or their supporters tentatively surface on the jw discussion board.
