  a Fairly Interesting Occurence.

  backstory:.

  i work part time as a "body adornment specialist" which essentially means i'm a body piercer.

  i work at a shop that is owned and operated by someone who is a fairly big deal in the body modification industry.

  i was born in 1965, the same year that malcolm x was assassinated.

  my father had committed suicide a few months into my mother's pregnancy so we lived with her parents until she married again when i was about 18 months old.

  Ya sure don't! I'm a little surprised Merry, but your avatar kind of hinted at that a while ago.

  I have been gawked at a few times in the small town where I live (pop.675), but most of the people here have treated me very nicely (to my surprise, I must confess). There are no other Muslims that I know of in the immediate area and the closest Masjid/Mosque/Islamic Center is 100 miles away in a college town. It is a pretty conservative very Christian area.

  Do you think your treatment would be different if your skin color was? I've never been to Idaho, and in this part of NJ, it's no big deal.

  I LEARNT TO SWIM!

  Thanks for the encouragement. For about the last 6 months, I've felt ready to learn. I don't know how to tread water, so I'd bite the dust in anything over 5 feet. I feel really bad that if I ever had to save my kids, I would need saving myself!

  It looks like it's SO much fun. I wanted to join the swim team in high school. Nowadays, I get a little envious when watching meets and Survivor. I think it's time.

  I'm Attending the Memorial

  my lovely girlfriend and i sat down over a homecooked meal, and discussed the pros and cons of attending the memorial.. i decided, with her support, that we would attend.. i spent years of my life pretending to be a witness to please my mother.

  when i left the witnesses, my mother said some hurtful things.. and those things really hurt me... for a while.

  but i established myself as my own person, developed my own relationships, and have gotten a good start on my own life.. i don't know that i want to hurt my mother back, but i do want to make it abundantly clear to her, my grandmother, and all the members of my former congregation, that richierich is alive and kicking.. and i think that walking into the kingdom hall, dressed respectfully in a suit, yet with full piercing jewelry intact, and with erika wearing something classy that steals the brother's eyes, and draws glares from the humble sisters, will be just the thing to send that message to my mother.. i don't plan on partaking or making a disturbance.

  Picketing a random Sunday meeting by dubs would yield little results, but holding a rally on something like the memorial might serve as a nice deterrent to all the bible studies that visit.
  
  When they are being "courted" by witnesses they are being sold fanciful tales of everlasting life and happiness. If they go to the memorial and see "apostates" exposing the real nature, I'm sure their recruitment would go down.
  
  Especially since the study can just hop on the internet and check it out for themselves.

  All anyone needs to do is hold up a sign/wear shirts with the websites on them. That's it. It evens the playing field for a study's mind. I know I would have looked! For example, the May 2002 Dateline was swept under the rug (what else is new, right). If I had only heard of Silentlambs then, it would have nipped that WT lie in the bud. On a side note--Personally, I feel like why protest the JW's and yet be involved with another religion?! But, that's me.

  to me there is a definite difference in my generation and the one coming after me, when i graduated you basically had three choices.

  military, college or a fulltime job which meant more than 40 and you were expected to grow up, today kids are seen as postponing this for years, it reminds me of the proverbs 29:21 kjv says .

  21 he that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.. when is it time to push the little birds from the nest and tell them to flap real hard?.
