Well done! Take one day at a time and you'll find you can slowly get out of the habit. Don't beat yourself up if you fail sometimes. In life sometimes you take two steps forward and one back. You're still going forwards though!

"Brainwashing" does not exist
by logansrun inthe term "brainwashing" is sometimes thrown around this forum and i thought i'd briefly comment on it.
the idea that a group or person can actually make you think, act and feel in a certain way is highly dubious.
i'm not saying it's impossible, but i highly doubt that any ex-jws have ever experienced "brainwashing.

I would agree with you Bradley when it comes to adults who have just come into being JW's by choice but strongly disagree when it comes to young children and those of us brought up as JW's. We were forced to go to the meetings, study, out in service and we were brainwashed. We had no choice at all and our minds and thinking have been altered from what they would have been had we not been brainwashed by our parents and the borg.
Some of us have need psychological help to survive out of the Organisation, and have found for ourselves how our brainwashed we were. JW children are vulnerable and forced to think in the JW pattern. If that's not what brainwashing is then I don't know what could be.

My mother 'assures' me that Ray Franz was disfellowshiped because he joined the Pentecostals. Is there any truth in this at all as I am not aware of what he is doing now or since writing his books?

Does the averageJW really believe it is the truth?
by whatistruth ini ask this question because the average jw does not show true love though they are commanded to do so.
the average jw often confesses that the meetings are quite boring.
the average jw complains about almost everything within the org.

I think that most believe that God is going to destroy the system of things and they want to survive and be in 'the ark' of salvation. They don't want to die and have bought into a myth. I always wanted to know what was coming in the year 3000 and 4000. Finally I got real. I never will know and what makes me more worthy than my next door neighbour to find out? Going to the meetings? Going in field service? No, I don't think so.
Now I face the realities and accept them. But that takes time. If you've spent your whole life in a dream like state it takes a little while to wake up and smell the coffee, but I don't think that all witnesses will ever wake up, just most, I hope will in another thirty to forty years perhaps.
