Since non-JWs are 'dead meat' in their eyes , or only of any use if they can 'save' them and in so doing 'save' themselves I wouldn't expect JWs to, as an organization, really physically help anyone. Many a time have I heard the 'angel of Calcutta' derided for helping people, physically.

I'm certain that there are individual JWs who would move heaven and earth to help their neighbours but would make sure no one in the Cong new about it, in case of reprimand.

The Society, unfortunately, is cruel and heartless to the people of 'the world' of which they believe 'we are no part.'

Many a times was I ashamed to see religious leaders and ordinary people being depicted as being destroyed in terrible ways at Armageddon. They are probably holding a 'told you so' lofty attitude about the Tsunami as we speak. Why would they want to help when they can have that kind of view.

Wannaexit, like you a cleverly,lovely cloacked apostate got me. My hero!

I would never have listened to apostates at assemblys. I was not one to shun disfellowshipped ones but would not have discussed anything religious with them.

What finally clinched the deal for me was the internet. My mother warned me never to read the 'terrible things they say about the brothers on the internet'. So, I rushed home and read it all. Hallelulahlalalala!

This was an incomprehensiby enormous tragedy that is now showing how many good people live in a world that is apparantly deserving of total destruction.

Could it be, that people are ALL really that bad just because they're not JWs.

People never cease to make me despair but they also never cease to impress.

Only One Religion's WebSite Ignores the Desaster in South Asia

to whatever religion's website you surf, all have a comment on the tsunami in south asia: be it catholic, protestant, adventist, mormon, new apostolic or whatever.

they try to give comfort and encourage people to donate for the suffering people there.

but if you go to http://www.watchtower.org or http://www.jw-media.org there is no mention of it (at least by now).

I don't understand what the controversy is about after all, Jehovah's Witnesses aim to be 'NO PART OF THE WORLD!'

It doesn't matter to the borg and it's not supposed to matter to the witnesses. Why should it be front page news to them. At some point it will be used to help sell more mags and frighten people into expecting Armageddon as a sign of the times.

You can't be sure of that, but your point is taken.

When people start to panic, all kinds of incredibly irrational things begin to happen.

What if the tidal wave swept some people in land and they hung on to something and survived.

In another scenario, that same person may have been crushed to death in a stampeed. There is no parallel universe in which to compare and decide which is the best outcome.

A man dies suddenly of a heart attack. He has a 'medically classified' quality death.

A man dies is pain and fear and terrible anxiety. He's had time to think and FEAR what might happen to him.

I'd chose the heart attack myself.

Panic is the most terrible, fearsome thing that can happen to a person. FEAR that is overwhelming and incapacitating is not something to be wished on anyone. FEAR for you children is unbearable and for your loved ones not something to be wished on anyone.

In numbers saved, I don't believe it would have made too much difference and in saying that I'm not implying that a single life saved is futile.

In the end, what happened is what happened. Maybe some lessons can be learned but I firmly believe that an hour is NOT enough to significantly change anything simply because of PANIC.

It would have been more than enough if everyone filed in a neat orderly manner away from the coast. But where would you have had them go in the Maldives?

There are things that you see happening that you cannot change no matter what you do. If only this and if only that is only a form of denial. This terrible catastrophe happened. We cannot change it. Denial and 'if only' comes with all grief situations. That's something all caring people are doing now, grieving.

You cannot be apostate to a human organization and that's what the WTBTS is, nothing more and nothing less.

You also, and this is said with respect, do not know more than those of us brought up as JWs. Take advice while you can and stay away from this very dangerous cult. Saying 'we are not a cult' does not make it so.

Witnesses cannot understand that they are in a CULT.

They cannot understand forgiveness.

They cannot understand unconditional love being the corner stone of loyalty.

Tv watcher 1. 'Right. Must pack. Get my passport. Find my husband/wife/children/relatives.... oh my God!' PANIC

TV Watcher 2. 'Yeah, yeah....another drink please.'

Out in the streets, people running screaming, fighting. Where to go? Where to go?

Did they have much of a chance in the first place?

Before you know it and hour is gone.

WTS Cashes In On Tsunami

what is the best way to make contributions for the benefit of needy brothers in other lands?.

at times, we hear about brothers in another land who have come into material need because of persecution, disaster, or other difficult circumstances.

I as a child always found it disgraceful that JWs did not support real charitable needs and certainly were not in humanitarian relief of non- JWs. It was my little act of rebellion that I had a direct debit to Oxfam for years and gave virtually nothing to the cont. box for the crappy magazines (I rarely or any of my children) ever read.

Do not contribute anything to the JWs.

Do not fill out your tax form that gives the congregation the right to claim back tax on your contributions and therefore know exactly what you gave them.

We never did.

When your relatives tell you that the JWs were the first on the scene after the Tsunami, inform them that they're talking out of their backsides. Then ask them to prove it.
