I've been in grad school for the last 2 1/2 years, and most classes meet once per month with the rest of the work online. Plus writing research papers, etc. So I'm sitting here at my desk, and when I get frustrating with the studying, I post. (That has been happening more often.) But I graduate Thursday, so I won't be here as often...

How do some of you, find so much time to be on this board?
by free2beme ini have noticed that some posters are here a lot, and i was just wondering how you find so much time to do that?
between work, coming home and playing with my child, working outdoors in the yard, and enjoying the weekend in the outdoors doing fishing, hiking or just getting outside.
i have little time for places like this and yet some are here "a lot!

C.S.I. Bridesmaids
by Poztate ini was watching csi (crime scene investigation) with my wife last night.
the crime scene was at a wedding and a remark was made to the effect that the"historic" purpose of bridesmaids was to ward off evil spirits.
google turned up this comment amongst others.... choosing your bridesmaids.

I rember some JWs who would read up on stuff like this and then eliminate it from their lives, and they thought everyone else should too. For example one family wouldn't eat anything with caffeine. They thought it was a drug that pollutes our bodies like nicotine. At parties, they would casually ask, "so what ingredients are in this delicious looking cake?"
I wonder where they are now, and did they ever take their "thinking out of the box" minds a step further in realizing how inconsistant the society is...

Only once. St. Patty's day, she went on and on about my cute sunglasses and my funny hat. I was pretty drunk, so I though nothing of it, but when I left all the guys were teasing me for my lesbian friend. It went right over my head.

The only "official doctrine" is love your neighbor as yourself. (Remember Jesus said that's all we have to do and the rest is petty Pharisee-type stuff?) I know it's easy to get caught up in "should I tell the elders this/ should I tell the elders that?" But as you get older, you'll understand that everyone can and does make their own individual decision to do what they do with their lives. It's never good to control others with rules.
I agree with the other posters. Let the smoking topic go. Don't even give it another thought. That's her thing, and not yours. Also, sounds like she's a little wishy-washy. I don't want you to get your feelings hurt. So please try to take a little time away from her. Widen out. Join some sports in the new area, or another community organizaiton. I know that's not the advice you were expecting, but I really think it will help put it all into perspective.

Life IN or Out of JW's suck
by Smoky ini've been keeping tabs on my old congregation for the last 3+ years (i dont even remember when was the last time i went to a meeting) it is not easy, i have joined a site named 'bebo' and have a handfull of so called 'friends' in my network.
mostly from my old congregation, they seem to acknowledge my existence, but keep there distance.
no one ever invites me to anything or to hang out.. time flies and things change.

Don't keep tabs on your old congregation. That's the problem. It's like telling yourself that THAT is where you should be and you want to be. You have to make a new life, a new circle of friends for yourself. Check in with them every now and then, just like they do for you.
I made this same mistake last week, Smokey. Friend from old congo had her first baby. I asked for her address from her family so I can send a gift. NO REPLY. It was as if I was "marked" or even DF'd, and not worthy even to give a gift. Lord knows they need some money. But they'd rather shun me.
I felt bad too. But let's resolve together to focus on the future, not the past. They don't care for us being in their lives, so we have to do the same. We have no choice.

Incoming Awake, Incoming Awake!!
by HadEnuf ini decided to treat myself to breakfast out at our favorite greasy spoon this morning.
i settled into my booth (when did they shrink the booths?
) and was enjoying that first sip of java when one of my favorite wait-persons walks up and throws an awake magazine right on top of my paper.

Yikes. When ever I see JW related stuff, I have an emotional reaction too, though I wouldnt' say I break out in a sweat.

I'm so angry!!!!!!
by lola28 inwell it looks like my plan to fade might not work after all.
yesterday afternoon i was in my office when two elders stopped by for a visit.
they came into my job and began to question me in front of my boss and my new assistant!

Lola, I'm so sorry. That would have freaked me out too. I think you did a good thing by leaving and going on a walk. Thank god you boss knew the full story. That is total harassment, and way out of line.

The Big Four-Oh Today...
by Confession inso i'm 40 today.
wow.... not only have i never celebrated my birthday, but my "date-of-birth" (april 20th) has always coincided with that of adolph hitler's and, more recently, the 1999 columbine student massacre.
furthermore my daughter has just informed me that today (4/20) is also inernational marijuana day, apparently to coincide with the term "four twenty," which stands for pot.. anyway, although age 40 has traditionally been one of the major mile-markers in peoples' lives, i feel great!
