I didn't read all these posts, but I just started a job in a bad area and they have those "Cop Cams", huge obvious camera boxes with big flashing blue lights. They're great, except that the loitering group of men who shout derogatory comments at the women just moved down about two blocks, out of sight of the camera. Anyway, I must admit, I do feel a little safer when I walk directly under it.

What's Your Opinion of Putting Spy Cameras On City Streets?
by minimus inthe new york post has an article on how the police commissioner plans on having spy cameras put in certain city streets that have high crime activity----not to monitor activity as it's happening but to review footage if a crime did occur in the area---after the fact.________what's your thought on this?

Whats the spookiest thing that has happened to you?
by diamondblue1974 ini have had a few experiences which some could be dealt with rationally although even to this day the coincidences seem too convenient; .
mine was on new years day in 1994; i didnt celebrate new years at the same although i was about to start my fade that year; i was ill on new years eve anyway and i had been sleeping when i awoke at precisely 12.13. i couldnt get back to sleep but there was no obvious reason why.. my grandmother was in hospital but she was getting better when i had last spoken to her; i managed to back off to sleep but woke that following morning for some reason really concerned about my gran; just as i was coming downstairs the phone rang and my girlfriend answered it.
i said to her before she got to the phone that it would be my mother with bad news about my gran; i was right on both counts; it was my mum and my gran had died.....at 12.13 precisely..

First, Prophecor, you have some really interesting stuff, and everyone else too.
This story isn't really spooky but more extremely coincidental: The night I met my husband for the first time he was with a friend of his who was cute, and I was initially attracted to the friend. At the same time, my now husband was being pursued by this girl in his class who had a crush on him. Well anyway When my husband and I started dating, the guy and girl started dating. Kind of weird. We all went on with our lives, husband and I got married, this couple move off together to another state, we move to the far end of the US. Well one day, husband and I are taking a long walk around our city, and get tired and try to catch a bus home. Well, bus was taking too long, so husband tries his luck by running across the intersection, buying a coke at a store, and running back before the bus comes. Of course as soon as he gets inthe store the bus comes down the road, so I am yelling for him to hurry up. He comes running across a busy intersection, cars slamming on brakes, and one almost hits him. But that one car keeps beeping and beeping long after everyone else had stopped. Well of course it lo and behold is the other couple. They were in town for an emergency cause the girl's grandma was dying. Just so weird. If I was still a JW, I know I would think it is a sign from Jah or Satan that I should have married the other guy!

It is finished, or is it just beginning?
by IP_SEC inwell i am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.
i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.
she immediately went to to one of the elders.

Congratulations on doing the right thing. Though things are difficult now, they make sense, and all of your actions will conincide with what you truly beleive inside.

Have you a POSITIVE JW experience??
by ScoobySnax inok sometimes i feel it's good to maybe not redress the balance, but at least can you say something positive that you gained from your jw experience.
so thats what i want you to do, if you so feel inclined.
can you say or mention something that had a positive effect on you when you were a witness?

Luna: I agree, it forced us to think. We had to "think our way out of a cult" which is not easy! That's the best thing it taught me.
Mary: yes, absolutely! My husband always looks over at me when there's a Biblical question, especially if we're with a group of people. He's proud of my useless facts, and so am I !
I too learned a lot from preparing presentations and rebuttals "at the door" at like 10 years old. It also helps to develop a professional side (at 10 years old). Learned to stand up for what I beleive is right, though I'm more of a pushover now, I think. Yes, learning to be friends with older people, especially if they are the only other pioneers, so you hang out like three days a week.
I thought it was Ashak, Michack, and Abednigo...

When you watched Star Wars did you feel like me?
by skyman ini could not help but think when the jw's watch star wars that anakin skywalker darth vader types in their minds are the apostates on the dark side selling their souls to the devil.
i think some jw's will feel a self in powering zeal that testifies to their soul how misguided the all of us are.
i know that when my brother (self righteous elder) watches this movie he will liken anakin skywalker to his poor misguided apostate brother.

I was describing the movie to my sister (DF'd) and I found myself using JW terms to describe what happened. We were both laughing. When Annikan "Left the truth", etc. It was just the easiest way to describe the plot.

I can't beleive you guys too. My husband got a cavity recently, so we've been on a "floss every day" thing. Well, the cat thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread to pull the floss out of the garbage. Two mornings I've caught him with just a short string hanging out of his mouth. He has a weird look on his face, like "Hmm, now what?" So I pull and it just keeps coming and he gags a little. I guess it was all the way down in his stomach. That's scary the cat can die, CJ. Sorry to hear that.
And thanks for those hairball pics! I've seen that in one of my books. You know that psychological disease where humans pull their hairs out of their head? Trich-something. Well, I guess some eat it, and the illustration I saw was to show the dangers of this disease since humans can't digest it and I think it said it has to be surgically removed. Blah.

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
"Well I been fraid of changes, cause I built my life around you...
But time makes your bolder, children get older, I'm getting older too."
Everyone can relate to that!
And I love that "Don't take the girl" song. This JW i had a crush on preteen/teenage years sang that song all the time, and it just blew me away.

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

Hey long hair, I'm reading Wuthering Heights right now!
I don't know if it was thought-provoking, but "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb really stuck with me for a while.
