So glad to hear the good news. It must be an awesome time for you, I know I would be just thrilled if my mom or sister drifted away. I'm happy for you.

by mkr32208 ini haven't been here much for the last 6 months or so because... (drum roll please) my wife has pretty much called it quits!
she's not been to a meeting now in over a year!

Pink Floyd reformed and playing at the London Live 8 concert
by jimakazi inmy all time favorite band pink floyd has reformed - with roger waters too - for the live 8 concert.. as a teenage i used to chill out to the floyd.
the song "comfortably numb" somehow resonates with me.
anyway live 8 starts in an hour or so [1 am nz] and i'll be up all night enjoying it.

I love that brick in the wall comparison. So true. Wish YOU Were Here is my favorite. We got a DVD-R just for the event.

Is College now wrong for Jehovah's Witnesses again?
by booker-t ini have been out of the jw's for many years now but i still have devout jw's family members.
and i am attending college now at 40 yrs old working on my ba degree.
i was so happy a few years ago when my jw mom told me that the wt is slacking off on telling jw's teenagers that college is bad and it is ok to attend college and universities.

Oh my God. That is horrible. I'm dreading this one. I hope hope hope my sister misses that one. She's gone back to grad school by some JW miracle, hopefully she won't drop out after that freakoid convention. Thanks for the heads up, guys.

Loves2B: of course we're all offended, but (if I remember correctly) the person who posted that, it was their "1 of 1" post, so someone just made up a quick name, signed themselves on, JUST to pi$$ everyone off. Don't take them seriously. If AM married to someone of another race, and damnit, my kids will be beautiful too!
Where would I be??? Hmm, taking advantage of the twighlight hours to do "evening witnessing", studying for the endless Thursday night meeting (bible reading, all scriptures inspired book, reasoning book, WT article, then move on to the OUr Kingdom Ministry articles, and if you're any kind of a spiritual person, you will look up all the non quoted scriptures too.) Married to a Jdub I guess. Probably no kids, and certainly depressed "but not even knowing it" as someone else said. Thank god you guys all got out, who were suicidal. Here's to those who didn't, may they rest in peace.

Does the WTS disfellowship mentally challenged people?
by Elsewhere in.
has anyone ever seen a situation where the wts disfellowhiped someone who is autistic, retarded or otherwise mentally challenged?.
i wonder if the elders give them more leeway knowing that they are not always capable of making decisions as well as a normal person.. .

Iron: YOu're absolutely right!
(My sister was just slipping into her delusions when she got baptized. She had held out as the last of the "youth" in the congregation to not get baptized, but suddenly took the plunge at 17 years old.)

Quotes, good point, the Bible labels anything that is slightly mentally ill as demonic. Ugh.

My sister is mentally ill and they df'd her just as fast as anything, but at the time, she was just becoming ill, so now that she's totally diagnosed and all, my mom still shuns her. I know mom has asked the elders, don't know what they told her, but mom currently feels that its' only okay to talk to her if she's in the middle of a mental breakdown, suicidal, or having hallucinations.
Such a loving organization.

Don't burn your bridges, you can't take back what you say. I would maybe say some "non-apostate" sounding things like, "But it always bothered me when Br. soandso did this and this and he still was in the truth". I always use that kind of logic when my mom starts with me. She is always saying how loving the congregation is and how if we only apply Jehovah's principles our lives would be just fantastically wonderful, and I'm like, hmmm, what about this person and that person in the Hall? Hoping it makes her stop and think a little bit, and realize she may be the only one really beleiving all the crap.

I would have majored in journalism, and probably never found a job. Now I'm a nurse, and the employment opportunities are endless!
We would have been raised in a safe neighborhood across the street from my grandparents, instead raised in an unsafe place, but it was okay since we "didn't associate"
Maybe had a semi-normal adolescence. But who knows, I still am who I am, so maybe I would have had a very similar life.
