Hey guys, I'm looking for tips. I have 48 hours, so how do you JW-proof your house? Mom and sister and brother-in-law are coming this weekend. I'm so excited to see them, mom hasn't been up to visit in 2 years. I'm inactive, they sort of know I don't beleive, but it's a don't-ask-don't-tell with everything else. I just noticed, thank goodness, that the display photo album on the coffee table had me and husband dressed up for halloween last year, and me as an angel! (So demonic...) So I replaced those two pictures. I've also thought of the clear storage container with the Christmas tree must be put away in a closet, surrounded by other boxes. What else am I forgetting?

2 Elders Ask My Mom 2 Questions-----What's Your Opinion On Motive?
by minimus in#1 do you love jehovah?......she answered, "of course i love jehovah".
#2 do you feel the same about the faithful & discreet slave?....she answered, "why wouldn't i ?
they taught me everything i know".-----to give you some background, the elders paid a shepherding call on this ill former regular pioneer that they deleted for going to an "unequaled yoking" of a wedding of my inactive daughter and her "worldly" husband.

My God, Minimus, they're trying to DF her!!! That's kind of awesome, she may actually escape them after all. Hope she is able to make it through this stressful time without too much pain. Stand by her side quietly and let her vent. Sounds like she's starting to see through them. Maybe she'll start to view DF'd people differently if she gets DF'd like that under the simple fact that they're trying to cover up their lie. Hopefully they'll not reappoint her as a pioneer, otherwise, her faith in them may be restored. Good luck to you and her.

Well, here's the ironic thing IronGland:
Smoking does VERY MUCH contribute to stroke and heart attack, in fact it is one of the major risk factors. (This is all I've been reading about the last three weeks. I'm doing a research project of cholesterol, but it's all related.) When you smoke, you damage your vessels, which then can't deal with the plaque buildup as well, so they more quickly get clogged up, and you get a heart attack if the clog is in a heart vessel and a stroke if the clog is in the brain. Something like that. I'm actually supposed to turn that section in tomorrow. So I'll be writing it today...
And cancer: smoking contributes to just about ALL cancers, not just lung cancer as is commonly thought. It especially contributes to mouth and stomach cancer. Also the others you mentioned (colon, liver, lymph, prostate, brain, and skin. (I think skin, I didn't look that one up.)
The only thing it doesn't contribute to is Alzheimers, broken hip, diabetes mellitus, automobile accident, and violence, although, who knows, that's the next thing we'll be hearing about how smoking contributes to weakened bones, who knows? :)
Anyway, I agree, your doctor or nurse practitioner should be telling every overweight or inactive or smoking patient that changes need to be made. They shoud check on that person's progress every time they come for a visit.
Also, I took a great class, and the guy loved to talk about how we're all going to die anyway, so yeah, that's true. Basically almost everyone either dies of heart disease or cancer in the US. But you could slow the process down by like 5 or 10 years (just my estimation) if you stop smoking.
Okay, I'm off my soapbox, and back to work. Hey, if you want to pick on me, just start a thread on people who don't exercise.

Who are you now?
by tsunami_rid3r inall of us have been tit-sucking jehovahs witnesses at one point in our lives, and we have been deceptively forced to give up our very own individuality to become one group united under, supposedly, god's only earthly organization.
just maybe, maybe throughout your much hated dull life, as a brainless witness, you weren't allowed to experience the necessities of life, such as satan's blaring rock and roll that you oh so always wanted to listen to, dressing up in those flaming hot name brand clothes lines, being part of a sports team, knowing what true bonding friendship and competition really meant, or chosing those friends you know would never turn you in for having that nightly drink at the club.
now that we know the real truth, and the damage has been done, what have you done to repair it?

Well, I don't really know who I am either. I guess I'm a person who ususally sees things differently than those around me, but I don't voice my opinion because I'm trying to "fit in" since I never quite did as a JW. So then I end up being bored with those around me, and no one really knows who I am.
I'm also learning that even though I may have a viewpoint that people should have no barriers to being friends with others (ie: race and culture shouldn't be a factor), others do not have that viewpoint. So while I am naively spending my time trying to build friendships with those of another race/culture, I've recently realized I will always be #2 friend for them. It's just a new realization I"ve come to this week. Not to hijack the thread!

You know, I just had to add this. My patient made a comment, that I know I will remember. There he is sitting in an ICU bed, with possible cancer and other long term problems. He's been there for a week. We were talking about the news, and he says, "You know, the only reason Dana Reeves lung cancer makes news is because her last name is Reeves. I mean what about me? Why don't I get to be on the news?"
I had never thought of it that way. Here I was feeling so bad for Dana, and getting teary at the Peter Jennings memorial tribute, and my own patient is suffering the same thing! In fact everyone down the hallway is dealing with a similar thing. I mean I know they're famous and that, but it just struck me that I am getting emotional for these famous people, yet this stuff is happening all over! So yes, think about the Nicotine patch, and if you've tried to stop before, try again with your doctor's help. There are great new ways and support.

Infidelity
by Been there inhi all, i am coming here to seek some help sorting out my feelings, emotions and try to put the million thoughts in my head into some sort of order.
i already did a lot of the grieving 5 years ago when i suspected so it is not as painful now that i know for sure, facts are usually not as good as what the wife with many lonely hours can dream up in her imagination.
this may get long, sorry.

Well put Tijkmo.
Been there: I feel for you, I am so sorry you were so lonely and he did that and covered it up. I'm sure you are so angry. I have advice, but I'm not you, I'm not in your situation and don't know him or really you. I just hope you aren't hurt again. Like Tij said, you don't want to continue damaging the relationship by thinknig you trust him, but really don't. I can't imagine what you're going through. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. Keep us updated.
I personally would leave my husband if I had that much proof, or if he confessed. He may be a new man on Saturday, but things may slip back to the way they were. Or he may feel uncomfortable now that the power has flipped, and he basically is begging forgiveness. That may wear on him after a while, and he may change for the worse. But that's just my advice, I'm not you. (I did have a similar scare a few months ago while my husband was out of town, but I really have no proof or confession, just a fishy situation. I beleive him that nothing happened, but it has really damaged our three year old marriage. I just cannot trust him like I used to, and he knows it. I can't help but ask a thousand questions when he goes out without me. It's horrible. I can't imagine if he really confessed or I beleived that he really did it for sure.) Again my thoughts are with you.

My Mom Requests They Don't Announce Her Name If She Is Sick--- On Platform
by minimus inmy mother's so disillusioned by the elders, circuit overseer and society for removing her as a pioneer for going to my daughter's wedding in which she married an "unbeliever", that she has told the elders not to even announce her name if they find out she's been sick or could use some welcomed calls.
nope!
she just wants them to stay away from her as long as is possible.

Minimus,
That is so great. She's finally thinking out of the box. I hope it turns out well, and I sure do wish the same would happen to my mom!!!
