Thanking Jehovah God for Sports
by Sea Breeze inserena william's thanks jehovah god for allowing her to participate in sports.
how nice.
my jw parents followed the rules and thought they were doing jehovahs will by denying me participation in sports.

I wonder if she really knows that professional sports is frowned on by the WTS. After all, she did not get baptized until she LEFT professional sports.

Disfellowshipping and Excutions
by blondie in*w60 2/1 80 - 17 there may be rare instances where a child is so hardened in its stubbornness that even the rod of correction cannot drive it out.
in the days of israel parents were instructed by jehovah to take such a rebel to the city fathers and they, in turn, took the incorrigible one out and stoned him to death.
there were no juvenile delinquents under such a system.

*w60 2/1 80 - 17 There may be rare instances where a child is so hardened in its stubbornness that even the rod of correction cannot drive it out. In the days of Israel parents were instructed by Jehovah to take such a rebel to the city fathers and they, in turn, took the incorrigible one out and stoned him to death. There were no juvenile delinquents under such a system. (Deut. 21:18-21) So also today, the New World society of Jehovah's witnesses can not and will not tolerate juvenile delinquency to exist in its midst. So, to avoid a possible death-dealing blow by being disfellowshiped from the congregation.
Or WT 1952 11/25 p. 703
Being limited by the laws of the worldly nation in which we live and also by the laws of God through Jesus Christ, we can take action against apostates only to a certain extent, that is, consistent with both sets of laws. The law of the land and God’s law through Christ forbid us to kill apostates, even though they be members of our own flesh-and-blood family relationship. However, God’s law requires us to recognize their being disfellowshiped from his congregation, and this despite the fact that the law of the land in which we live requires us under some natural obligation to live with and have dealings with such apostates under the same roof
From this I understand that disfellowshipping that the person should be treated as if they were dead and continues that concept by saying thus a disfellowshipped person should not be spoken to or treated like they are live. I wonder if they still believe this.

"A Jehovah's Witness"
by NotFormer ina very certain distinctive of jws is how they refer to themselves.
"one of jehovah's witnesses".
it's one of those coded jargon thingies.

The only place "A Jehovah's Witness" comes up in WT publications is from quotes by non-jws. It is an unwritten rule that it is proper per the WTS to use "one of Jehovah's witnesses" rather than "A Jehovah's Witness." They want it reflect it as meaning an individual, not a religious group name. Jws were called Russellites and Rutherfordites in the past not liked by the WTS. Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses is one way the WTS has in recent years tried to re-identify themselves. (BTW reporting not supporting) It was not rare that some self-righteous would correct jws that said "A Jehovah's Witness." Straining out the gnat while gulping down the camel.

Back in the day, the WTS used to make an issue of this. But not so much nowadays.

Do elders have to stop after a certain age?
by LostintheFog1999 ini know from friends who are pimi that circuit overseers are taken off when they hit age 70. since most of them are long serving men it might explain why they are pushing mid-20 year old lads into the circuit work.. are there any similar age restrictions on congregation elders?
because we've known some doddery old men in the past who shouldn't have been kept on as presiding overseers but refused to relinquish their role.
does anyone know?.

The WTS does suggest that older elders remain elders but not have duties to handle. Elder emeritus?
"Not too long ago, however, an adjustment was made. Older elders were asked to hand over some of their weightier responsibilities to younger elders. In what way?
The new arrangement is that circuit overseers and field instructors discontinue those particular types of service when they reach 70 years of age. Also, elders who are 80 years old will turn over to younger elders various other assignments, such as being coordinator of a Branch Committee or being coordinator of the body of elders in a local congregation. How have these dear older elders responded to this adjustment? They have shown loyalty to Jehovah and to his organization!
“I was totally in agreement with the decision,” comments Ken, who served as coordinator of a Branch Committee for almost 49 years. “In fact, on the very morning I found out, I had prayed to Jehovah, expressing the need for a younger brother to serve as the coordinator.” Ken’s reaction is typical of the sentiments expressed by faithful older ones worldwide. Of course, since they loved serving their brothers, there was some initial disappointment." September 2018 "Older Christians" p. 8-9

I found it interesting when I went to this link what the WTS said about 1975 in 1975, then 1976, then 1980. Quotes provided, not needed to link to Watchtower Online Library. https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1975.php
