I wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I'd be, but I'll most likely watch it again to see if it's gonna fly----or not :o)
I felt the same way. But I was interested because I'm originally from Jersey and have visited Point Pleasant beach in the summers. I wanted to see if there was anyplaces I recognized. Although, I'll probably find out that it's filmed somewhere else!

The continuing saga of being in love with a Witness
by starcrossedpimp ini don't know how many read my prior post "problems with jw girlfriend and her family", but i feel the need to continue the story as it is very current and is taking quite a toll on both of us.
she and i also work together at a grocery store, so even if she does/did decide to break things off (because of her parents and the religion) we would still see each other (i'll get to this in a minute).
we both know that we still love each other and that we deserve to be together, but can this religion be stronger than true love?????

I knew of a baptized pioneer sister who was in a similar situation. She was about 22, living at home. All of her family are devout witnesses. She, though, was secretly dating a 'worldly guy'. Her family did not know, but I worked with her and she told me. This was before my fading, but I wouldn't have gone to the elders. The girl was over 18, I felt her decisions were her own.
Finally she & the guy flew to Vegas and got married. Her family didn't know that was where she was going and what she planned on doing. They just went away for the weekend and came back married. She was never disfellowshipped for it. And they've been married about 4 years now. Although it took awhile for the family to accept it. Maybe an option for you, Starcrossedpimp.

All hell is about to break loose in a sleepy New Jersey town when a sudden violent storm washes in more than the tide in the new supernatural drama series POINT PLEASANT.
The peaceful existence of a small seaside community will change forever when Christina Nickson (Elisabeth Harnois) is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker (Sam Page) and brought to the home of local doctor Ben Kramer (Richard Burgi). The Kramers, including Ben's wife Meg (Susan Walters) and daughter Judy (Aubrey Dollar), take an instant liking to Christina and invite her to stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother ? a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew.
Christina is unaware of the profound effect she has on the town's inhabitants; her presence awakens repressed feelings, unlocks secret desires and heightens emotions. Tensions flare between Jesse, who finds himself inexplicably drawn to Christina, and his best friend Terry (Brent Weber), who secretly lusts after Jesse's possessive girlfriend Paula (Cameron Richardson). Paula's hot-to-trot mother Amber (Dina Meyer) attempts to rekindle her relationship with the good Dr. Kramer. And long-buried secrets kept by Jesse's parents, police captain Logan (Alex Carter) and God-fearing Sarah (Clare Carey), begin to surface, especially when the mysterious and charismatic Lucas Boyd (Grant Show) arrives and insinuates himself into Christina's new life.
As Christina delves deeper into the history of Point Pleasant, seeking answers to her mother's disappearance, she will come to realize that she has never known her "real" father, either ? for Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil. While Christina struggles to control the demon inside her ? and the powers that come with it ? the fight for her soul has begun, as the town of POINT PLEASANT becomes the ultimate battleground of good versus evil.
POINT PLEASANT is a 20th Century Fox Television Production. Marti Noxon ("Angel," "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"), Dawn Parouse (TRU CALLING), Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz serve as executive producers. Ben Edlund, Andrea Newmann are co-executive producers.

White Lion's - When the Children Cry:
Little child dry your crying eyes
How can I explain the fear you feel inside
Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killing man and no one knows just why
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
CHORUS
When the children cry let them know we tried
Cause when the children sing then the new world beginsLittle child you must show the way
To a better day for all the young
Cause you were born for all the world to see
That we all can live with love and peace
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God
CHORUS
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
No more presidents and all the wars will end
One united world under God
When the children cry let them know we tried
When the children fight let them know it ain't right
When the children pray let them know the way
Cause when the children sing then the new world begins -

JW's and records
by frozen one inthis is a bit of an expansion on the above thread.... if memory serves (which is questionable), it seems that i read or heard that if a witness had employment which made them privy to files at work and if they saw something in the files that may be evidence of "wrong doing" that they were obligated to report the information to the elders.
for example, if a dub worked at a video store and saw that another witness had been renting r rated movies or (gasp) porn, the elders needed to know this.
or maybe a witness worked at a hospital and had access to medical files, the elders would need to know if anyone had been treated for vd, had a forbidden blood treatment, or if a sister had an abortion.

I remember hearing a story about a sis who worked in a ob/gyn office and another young sis was in for a check up. the sis who worked there went to the elders because she read in the file that the young sis was pregnant. THe young sis was unmarried. Don't remember the outcome, but I remember my mom agreeing with how the sis who worked at the office had done the right thing. I was stunned! I would think that is against the law! The doctor/patient confidentiality clause. Guess it doesn't apply to JW's.

My mom started studying when I was 13 and right away she started telling me that Armageddon would be here waaayyy before I graduated high school. Which was in 1986! Then when I did graduate, it was Armageddon would be here before I married, that was in 1991. Then it was it would be here before your kids go to school! they are in 5th & 6th grade now. Since I've faded I haven't heard when Armageddon will be coming. Any ideas?? LOL

How many "ascended the mountain", and didn't see "the light"?
by upside/down ini'm talking about the jw dream of visiting mecca bethel!
i had heard the stories of "the friends" who came back from bethel ("ascended the mountain") and they came back with their faces beaming.
it was so great, that they could talk almost endlessly about it and the entire experience seemed to be so "spiritual".

I had visited Brooklyn Bethel about 1996 or 1997. I went with 2 pioneer sisters and we toured the facility and did have the lunchtime meal with some bethelites. Don't remember much about the tour & stuff. But something that still sticks in my mind is we visited a brother from our local cong. that was at bethel. He showed us were he lived. A small apartment with only a bathroom, a living room & a kitchenette. No bedrooms! and he lived with a roommate. They had cushions stuffed in the closet that they brought out at nighttime to sleep on! I guess they are not there to sleep comfortably.
And many years earlier I had visited the "farm' with a large group. It was winter time and a new sister had worn pants. She was dressed nice, but the brothers wouldn't allow her to tour, because she was wearing pants!! No one thought they wouldn't allow her in, otherwise I'm sure someone would have told her before we drove the 3 hours to get there in a snow stom, no less.
