Michael Jackson used to come to my door in the LA area in the 80's and try to sell me tracts with another brother I went to school with.
I was at a Sunday meeting in the 90's in California and a black brother came from LA to give a talk and brought someone with him, a shaved head black man... turned out to be Damon Wayans. He was nice and pretty cool. don't think he is still in.
Ja Rule was raised a witness but doubt he is still in. Learned alot reading his feud with 50 cent.
Prince is in and the Williams sisters, anybody's guess.
Anybody hear abou Johnny Carson?

Celebrites in the Borg
by what_Truth? ini was wondering how many famous actors, musicians, and other public figures either are jw's or became jw's at some point in their life.
eveyone knows about prince{b], and michael jackson, but i've also heard that they snagged up george benson, a former indian prime minister and rapper dres of the group the black sheep.
obviously this will be a short list since the society doesn't do much to encourge any kind of success, especially not the kind that will leave you with millions of adoring fans.

Depression & Jehovah's Witnesses
by minimus inis it me or does it seem that nearly all jws go through depression in varying ways??
i'm not talking about what the average person could deal with because of a loss of a loved one or a job termination, etc.
i'm referring to being depressed because you're a jehovah's witness.

I think many join because they have problems / issues and like what they hear about the future. I have never seen a group that has so many psychosomatic illnesses and is on meds. So many sisters with lupus, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, etc. They can sit home and stuff their faces with junk food and meds but not work. And of course when they go to the doctor, nothing is found. Then they go to the quack doctors / accupunturists / naturalists who support their delusional thinking. Now you have the construction worker paying for quack powder, not covered by insurance to cure his wife. He struggles more, is bummed out, never gets any action. It is a cycle. My ex was that way... I think bein nuts runs in her family (actually mental illness does). Stuff doctors couldn't find, etc. Now we are apart, she has to work and the girl who couldn't get a job or do much is now a horse trainer and does real physical exertion! I tell this to my witness friends and they say people in the world are the same. Not so. I don't know of anybody on meds. Although I am educated and all my friends have careers and work. Nobody sits at home or does blue collar work. I've found if you work, take care of yourself, you do ok. People that are lazy, or passive aggressive will use illness to support their lazy attitude and manipulate / control others.

Who else hasn't got a pension plan?!!!!!!!
by Gill inwell here we are starting to think about retiring in another twenty years and what do we find?
we find that we've missed the best years of our lives for saving in a pension plan simply because we knew that we wouldn't need one because armageddon was coming.
we were told by quite a few elders in our congregation that simply having a pension plan showed lack of faith that the kingdom was coming very soon and we should actively get rid of the company pension plans that we had.

You all should start now or end up working at McDonalds with all the other pioneers when you are 70 and sickly. (For those in the USA) Current law allows you to divert 25% of pretax earnings into a 401k up to a maximum of $13,000. Do this now. Don't be lame. Yuo know you spend money on dumb stuff, yes you! Let up on the Starbucks and fast food. Ditch the hokey medicine and beer one day a week. If your emloyer matches, then you get more. Start off small, lets say $100 a week. Now pretax you may only really see a reduction of $75 or $80 a week. Maybe cut out magazine subscriptions, make the wife get a job. Pack a lunch to work. Also you can do a Roth IRA up to $3,000 with post tax dollars and withdraw the earnings after retirement tax free. Remember OJ? He had millions in retirement and never lost it when he lost the lawsuit. I've had clients file Bankruptcy and keep retirement accounts. They are a safe vehicle to preserve wealth to support you when you are older and not as able as today. Laws very state by state. A qualified plan will help preserve things, you never know, you could inadvertantly hit a bus full of rabbi lawyers. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER cash out or borrow against retirement plan money. If they say do it for medicine or an operation or you will die, say ok, I'll die. I've seen hundreds do this and never pay it back and they never improved their position. There are annual limits on contributions and after you cash out, there is no going back, even if you won a small chunk in the lottery. If you want to be comfortable when you are older and less able, follow my advice or better yet, don't trust me, some random Zapatista rebel on the internet but go run my info by your trusted advisor (CPA or legal counsel). If you don't follow my advie, its ok, you will lose unless a relative dies and gives you money. I've seen tyhis happen alot. Don't make excuses, its your life. Social Security may go bankrupt soon. Only viable options that have been discussed are raising taxes to cover it and that would be a huge hike, very unpopular. Do it now and rep the benefits later. It may be tough but at least you have earning power and health on your side now. It may not be easy but it will be a heck of a lot easier than having to choose that trailer in backwoods Arkansas to be able to live when you are 65 an working selling moonshine. As far as investments go, my advice is to diversify. Don't place all your eggs in one basket. some ideas could be a combination of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc. Your age and risk tolerance are big factors on your investment choices. enjoy

Are U.S. witnesses still morally superior?
by spider infrom the perspective of a uk observer it seems to me that the divide between 'the world' as it is in conservative heartlands of the us, and the mindset of the jehovah's witness is getting narrower by the day.. is there really a big difference between a jw and a majority of people in such places?
in the newspaper today i read how the new film alexander was being slated for showing alexander the great as a bisexual.
the uk independent reported that one online critic has warned christians that are considering seeing the film to "speak to your pastors immediately because satan is attempting to enter your mind".

Depends on the Witness. Overall I'd say yes. Witnesses have consequences for their actions, consequences for moral crimes / sins that regular people are not bound by. Now me for example, hahaaha..... ummm.... I have this addiction to hot girls. So for me, I'm way worse than 80% of worldly people in that department.

What age group is more prone to become JW's?
by JH in.
when i attended meetings years ago, the only new faces i saw were brothers and sisters who moved to our congregation from another congregation, or children growing up.
i rarely saw new people who came because someone knocked on their door.. do you think that there is an age group more prone to become jw's?

Group? Ok... people with mental illnesses, those who are poor and don't want to work. Uneducated people and single mothers especially those who are on welfare with red headed kids. Mainly 24-45.

Is owning your business for jws?

Most JWs are crappy business people and they further compund their problems by hiring all the sob story friends with no skills. I have my own firm and will never hire another witness. Now they are honest but I'm not an ice cream stand where they could pocket money. Funds come in cheques or wire transfers. Too much gossip, especially about how much I make. They get jealous, tell people, etc. I was there at 7am, left 1am and they bitch about working a whole 30 hours a week and I also work weekends when needed. Stay poor lazy asses! And blame satan for being poor, not your weak ass work ethic!

Better than music is music videos. There is a site that gives you the code to embed them on your site. They even have Dave Chappelle and his skit from "I'm Rick James" that is the funnies ever. The site is: http://www.grumby.com/videos.html#A

Neither... Exercising is the key as well as eating heaqlthy foods. Go eat low carb at Mcdonalds and don't exercise and you'll be fatter! Get on a good workout routine and work out with a buddy. Eat your largest meal 1st, meaning breakfast. Eating after dark isn't as efficient as taping the food to your theighs and belly because that is where it will end up. I know a little about fitness. I used to be 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. 3 years ago I looked in the mirror and hated my body. I had the typical spare tire and my belly stuck out more than my chest. Now I could have blamed many things and made excuses and remained with an ugly body "that wasn't my fault." Instead, I acted like a real man and made radical changes in my lifestyle. After 2 years, I have really been transformed. I now weigh 200 pounds, have gained 50 pounds of muscle, people get out of my way, even people that I think are bigger than me. I've been in some scary crap in 3rd world countries and feel the only reason I'm not dead and in a dumpster is my physical size. I still work out daily and eat lots of protein. The only bad thing for guys with eating lots of protein and working out alot is you are gonna want to hit alot of a$$. But even that is good cardio exercise if you aren't a minute man and make it go for hours. So many people focus on the food and not exercise. Food is important but the two must work together. Maintaining your workout routine forever is also important so you don't lose gains. cheers to all!

Internet credit/debit card fraud
by Elsewhere insaturday morning i woke up and went to my computer to check my bank account to verify that my paycheck direct-deposit had appeared.
it was there but so were four charges that i could not account for.
all four charges were for something called http://www.skype.net something i have never heard of.. i called the bank and they said that the charges were from over-seas and that they had complaints from other customers about charges from the same place.. my bank has an internet fraud guarantee, so all of the money will be credited back to my account and they are sending me a new card.. so far there is no harm done to me, but i wanted to give you guys a heads up incase you see something similar appear on your credit or debit card..

You may have a virus that did that. I've heard of it. Check for viruses and spyware.
