Courage, weapon, risk, soldiers, destruction, attack... lots of military and conflict language there. I thought they had moved away from that. Maybe, now that they've been outright banned in Russia, they figure what the hell, they might as well use combative language all they like.

There are a lot more JWs than Mormons and hence more ex-JWs. Over 20 million attend the memorial each year and there are probably that number again who have left JWs, were brought up JW but never baptised, or who have some connection such as close family members.
And I do think there are a lot of Mormon and ex-Mormon videos. In particular the "I was a Mormon" videos.

Solicitors Appontment Tomorrow - Advice Appreciated
by pale.emperor infollowing up on this thread: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5012900121935872/am-overreacting-here?page=3#!#5179106934128640.
im seeing my solicitor tomorrow to see about getting an order in place making sure any contact my daughter has with my jw family goes through me and not my ex-wife.. explained the situation briefly to the lawyer, she was asking more and more about why should i be concerned if a jw had access to my child.. i mentioned the blood issue, the shunning, the inappropriate pictures of armageddon in books/mags etc.
do you think i should bring in watchtower literature to show them what i mean?

These people are treating you as subhuman. There is no telling what they will say to your daughter about you when you are not there (that you are wicked and will die at Armageddon, is certainly possible). In fact even if he don’t say anything, the message they send by shunning you is disgusting enough. This alone, to my mind, would justify you not allowing them to spend time alone with your daughter, or at all if fact.
People should not pretend this sort of behaviour is in any way normal or acceptable. JWs will inevitably try to put the blame for the situation on the person who is shunned. Well let them try. It makes about as much sense as an overlapping generation. And will impress no one who doesn’t share their zealous devotion to the GB.

Curiously difficult question for me to answer. Maybe I'm not reflective enough.
But among the surprises to me were finding that Charles Taze Russell believed 1) that there are historical mistakes in the Bible 2) that animals may have evolved into their different species rather than being direct creations 3) that Jesus is to be worshipped 4) that many forerunners of the Bible Students were genuine Christians and 5) that all, or most humans will be saved by God in the end.
All of which are pretty good ideas that JWs would do well to revisit, in my view.

I just saw Phantom Thread. I'd give it 10/10.
Excellent actkng. I not sure if it's entirely intentional, but I understand the film as a comment on contemporary anxiety about gender roles and excellently executed. Some will find the plot twist unsatisfying, but I tend to understand it metaphorically in relation to the theme. Plus it's got some very funny scenes.

I agree it was a good film.
How I rated films I've watched so far this year:
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri 9/10
Very funny, good characters
Darkest Hour 8/10
Focuses on key part Churchill played in fighting on, two marks off for cringeworthy inaccurate underground scene
Last Flag Flying 8/10
Funny film, well acted, especially Cranston, slightly anti-war but but not enough for my taste
The Post 2/10
Boring attempt to cover contemporary issues of free speech and feminism through historical lens
Loveless 10/10
Best film so far, very bleak, set in Russia, beautiful images and some darkly funny scenes
The Shape of Water 7/10
Okay sort of fantasy/love story, well done if you like that
Phantom Thread - not seen yet
