A Must Read Update on WBTS and Darkspilver from reddit
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara inmany of us know that watch tower (yes, two words in this case) has issued a subpoena to reddit to try to gain darkspilver's identity due to accusations of copyright infringement:.
tl;dr: on april 9, watch tower filed a response to the eff's motion to quash (filed march 26) regarding the subpoena submitted to reddit in an attempt to find /u/darkspilver's identity.. the wt response is publicly available here as a pdf, from the site court listener.. a number of other documents relating to the case are available on the same site, here.. and the eff's motion to quash is available on the eff's website here.. details: as i'm sure many of us know, watch tower (yes, two words in this case) has issued a subpoena to reddit to try to gain /u/darkspilver's identity due to accusations of copyright infringement.
specifically, watch tower is claiming copyright infringement for two things: first, darkspilver posted the back page of the november 2018 watchtower which was an article entitled "what gift can we give to jehovah?” which explained how to donate.

How many would leave the organization right now if the shunning rule was removed?
by HiddenPimo indream scenario: everyone is made aware of all the wrongs, the false prophecies / csa problem / double standards - .
and they would not shun, how many would jump ship?.
my parents are fully aware of the sins of the org.

Have we considered, there may be some who would return to the organisation if they ended the policy of shunning?

Anthony Morris- Military records are now available under FOIA
by Bleep Bloop inif you've wondered what tony morris' original last name was, or if he really served in the military, i put up a youtube video today summarizing many of these details.
my goal is not to doxx him or his family, but to put some meat on the bones of his life story article, using available public records.. thanks to the community here that gave me the impetus to dig into this.
and i can definitively say that, contrary to popular opinion, his last name was not esposito haha.

This is such excellent research, thank you very much. But I fell asleep listening to it last night. I will need to try again.
I was a little surprised you said AM3’s real father was not of interest because he was not around. But isn’t that why he would be of interest? He calls himself Anthony Morris III, after all.
I already suspected AM3’s war experiences may have caused long term psychological trauma. It may also explain any dependency on alcohol, if there is such.
I think I may have fallen asleep before you spelled out if and how Morris inherited money. From his mother and step father who had a successful business? I need to listen again.
By the way, Gerrit Loesch wasn’t brought up JW either. If the same is true of Herd that makes at least 3 not brought up JW, which is more than I would have suspected. I wonder if there are any Mormon apostles not brought up in that church? I somehow suspect Mormon leadership is overwhelmingly cradle Mormons.
Very good effort, thank you for the information.

Yes, I’ve seen a new KH with no literature counter, just a self-service wall unit.

Not since 1939 -1945............
by The Fall Guy in.......has the news in the uk been dominated every single day for years by a single topic, i.e.
brexit.
it's all-consuming.. and the way things are going, it's going to last way longer than ww2.. we've got at least another 1-2 years of "negotiating a deal" to endure - imho..

1. Ireland seems happy as a member of the EU. Scots now have a clear choice: membership of a union where the views of small nations matter (the EU) or membership of a union where Scotland’s views don’t matter (UK).
2. Joining the Euro would be good, or our own currency, or continue to use Sterling, whichever, I don’t mind. And Westminster can’t stop Scotland using Sterling for as long as it wishes. And one hopes Westminster would finally see the sense of cooperating with neighbours and friends, whatever he currency and border arragements, after the disgrace of these Brexit “negotiations”.
3. I don’t want a border. I would wish Scotland and England both inside the EU. If England insists there must be a border the I wouldn’t allow that threat to stop independence. In the long run I hope they would see sense about cooperating with Scotland and other near neighbours in the EU by rejoining customs unions and single market. Leaving is madness in the first place.
I don’t know anything about Malta I’d need to read about that. My experience is that Ireland and other European countries I’ve visited seem happy in the EU.

Not sure about that. I remember it being mentioned that Question Time featured the Iraq War every single episode from 2003 for five years or so. Only the Northern Rock crisis of 2007 started to supersede it in the news. So Brexit still has a while to go to beat the Iraq War as a long running story.
Personally I think the best solution would be Scotland, England, Wales and United Ireland as independent countries, each as members of the EU, and in a British Isles Cooperative Federation. Problem solved.

I don’t know if the letter from the GB helper is genuine, but it really strikes me as the sort of mealy mouthed answer a liar gives. He doesn’t flat out state that the alcohol was for gifts or that Morris paid for it out of his own funds but implies that both might be the case and invites the recipient to draw those conclusions. Sneaky, because if it later turns out not to be the case, after all he only “suggested the possibility” and let the recipient make up his own mind.

They Want More Money!
by Atlantis inthose wanting a copy of this file.
https://docdro.id/fllorzffile example:4. circuit overseer assistance arrangement: in harmony with the announcement to the congregation, please arrange for a resolution to be put to the congregation, authorising payment from congregation funds equivalent to £4.50/€5.00 per congregation publisher for the 2019 service year.
if the body of elders believes the suggested amount would impose a hardship on the congregation, the resolved amount can be adjusted accordingly.. .

It seems to be £4.50 per publisher per year, not per visit. There are roughly two visits per year. I don’t know how the finances of COs have worked up until now, but on the face of it this seems to be an attempt to move at least some of the financial burden away from the branch and onto the congregations. If that’s what is going on then I think it could easily backfire. What Watchtower never seems to take account of, when asking for more money, is that publishers, as rational consumers, are perfectly capable of simply deducting whatever extra they pay out for an extra fund from what they would have donated to the general fund in the first place. So they may get their extra £250 or whatever CO fund from each congregation, but find that contributions to the general worldwide fund goes down by a similar amount, and they are back to square one. In fact if donation solicitation fatigue sets in, then contributions may actually go down over time.
It certainly seems to me that contributions to the general worldwide fund have gone down over the years. With all the extra payments Watchtower insists upon, and the discontinuation of literature, I guess many people simply don’t see the point of the world wide work contributions box any more. What Watchtower takes with one hand they lose from the other.

Well I can’t remember where I read it now. Or if I saw him mention wealthy family in one of his talks. I guess if it was general knowledge then others would have mentioned it. I was hoping my mentioning it again would prompt someone to supply the details.
But not all wealthy or privileged people avoided Vietnam: John McCain and John Kerry for example.
In his life story Morris described himself as “patriotic” which I thought was an interesting choice of word even at this remove.

Well I would tend to oppose the Trinity on the grounds that it is contrary to scripture. I wouldn’t argue that it is wrong because it is “mysterious” or it doesn’t make sense in human terms. Because I believe there are things about God (or reality) that don’t make sense in human terms, and are mysterious. Such as how can God exist in himself, and what does that mean, and why does God allow suffering? I don’t know of a rational answer to these questions, but I don’t rule out the possibility that there is an answer which is beyond our grasp. Because why should everything about the universe be comprehensible to the human mind? Other than we would wish it to be. Which ironically in other contexts rationists would dismiss as merely wishful thinking.
