It was a hard core doctrine. Why change it? It creates only problems. It is not an issue to be solved.Because the numbers don’t work and the number of anointed keeps on increasing?

Rumour 144,000 literal number teaching to be abandoned at Annual Meeting
by slimboyfat insay it ain’t so!
.
in one sense it’s a no brainer because the figures just don’t add up any more.. in another (negative) sense it’s a no brainer because it’s been fundamental to jws since year dot and might undermine the whole thing?

Hold your horses everybody, the rumour is they’re dropping the literal 144,000, this doesn’t necessarily mean dropping the anointed heavenly hope/other sheep earthly hope distinction. They could still maintain they are two distinct groups, and the anointed are a smaller group, but just that the exact number isn’t defined …

Can anyone identify the last time WT affirmed the literal 144,000 teaching in print or in broadcast? Because they sometimes have a lead-in time of a year or two where they go silent on a teaching before ditching it.

Fully Colored Version of My Book of Bible Stories
by Nosferatu indoes anybody know which edition of "my book of bible stories" had the fully colored pages?
i'm pretty sure it came out late in the book's life, but i'd like someone to verify which one it is..

I’ve never seen a fully colour version, always a mixture of coloured pages and black and white. At the same time, it makes sense to think that the images were originally produced in colour, before being converted to black and white, presumably to save money. So maybe the coloured versions were used at some point?

Say it ain’t so!
In one sense it’s a no brainer because the figures just don’t add up any more.
In another (negative) sense it’s a no brainer because it’s been fundamental to JWs since year dot and might undermine the whole thing?
What do you think?

Do you recognize this?
by Gorb inthinking sometimes about my youth days and the stories my grandfather told me about our jw congregation.
do you recognize that your congregation was full of somehowe strange folks, very low educated, poor and simple?.
the po was an elder with some distance, with some personality acting intelligent and following the rules strict.. there was always a kind of scandal.

No, I wouldn’t say so. There were some really bright people in my congregation. Two elders I liked a lot, both converts in the 1970s, with their wives. One was a heating systems engineer for hospitals who also like to quote David Hume. He had a very technical mind and was friendly too. The other was an electrical engineer for a large organisation. He could mend anything. Both their wives were bright too. There were other very intelligent sisters, including teachers and nurses and civil servants. There were former drug addicts, and they were intelligent and thoughtful people too, and turned their lives around after becoming JWs. Sure there were some odd characters and less intelligent people in the congregation, but it was a genuine mixture, including a number of interesting people from different backgrounds, in my recollection, though doctors or lawyers or academics are few and far between among JWs.
Through my association with Christadelphians, in recent years, I have come to appreciate that people in that community tend to have much better education and careers than typical JWs. Many are doctors and lecturers and professional musicians and so on. Unitarians are another step up on the social hierarchy, including senior academics, lawyers, and so on. Quakers are similarly middle to upper middle class, and include an inordinate numbers of teachers and lecturers. Seventh-day Adventists, at least in the UK, include a large number of immigrants from Africa who are doctors, nurses, and engineers.

Listen obey and get vaxed
by JohnR1975 inthe truth is most active jws would probably agree that most of the teachings are not right, the new thing is that we just don’t know.. the governing body now say they get things wrong and make mistakes as they are not inspired and not infallible.
yet they are still to be trusted no matter what?.

Did it cause a lot of division? As far as I can tell, most were happy with the guidance from the GB during the pandemic and still are. It’s only a small minority who demurred, increasing slightly as the pandemic wore on, but still a small percentage. And some of those who came to reject the vaccines didn’t frame it in terms of the GB getting it wrong. I don’t totally understand how they made sense of it, but it didn’t seem to turn them into apostates, as far as I can tell.

lol good headline
We had a faithful sister in the congregation who turned anti vax half way through the pandemic after initial obedience and taking the experimental treatments the GB endorsed. You might think this could be a problem in terms of unity and obedience going forward, but unfortunately she died of an aggressive cancer a few months ago, and her best friend died of a stroke a year earlier, two weeks after her first vaccine. (This was one of the things that prompted her vax skepticism.)
