My brother turns 24 tomorrow and has never had a family member do anything for his birthday. I would like to do something but really have no idea what to do. (It's that social-retard-edness showing thru).
Any ideas for something fun to surprise him??
Thanks in advance for suggestions.

back again for a visit
by czarofmischief injust thought i'd pop in and let you guys know what i'm to - not to brag (ok, a little), but i think sharing our success stories is an important part of everyone's rehab.. let's see - i (and my writing partner) had three short plays produced here in the "burgh"... it was poorly attended, but i had fun and the czarina was proud of me!
so that's all i need.. i've also gotten a job stringing for one of "america's great newspapers" so at least it's an in for the profession i went to school for.. and my main employer actually offered me a significant raise and full benefits (a huge deal here in the states), a nice change from my temp status.. the baby is still incoming; pictures will of course be posted.
but she's already the most beautiful girl in the world and i'm sure she will be a worthy heiress to the glorious faux-leather throne from which i type this statement.. i've successfully made it one year without any mood medication.

mom the other kids at the hall treat me like i'm not good enough
by candidlynuts inyup..thats what my teenage daughter told me this week.. she's beautiful, witty, smart, funny and overall a wonderful person (if i do say so myself).
but she's feeling unworthy of love from the " friends".. so i had a long long long long talk with her about the other " witness" kids.. how i felt the same way as a kid, how as i got older i found out the other kids didnt want me around because they were doing things that they .
didnt want to be told on about.

Hey there, candidly!!
Welcome back!!
**if you were God, how would you want 14 yr old girls to feel? positive and looking forward to the future or feel like your never going to be good enough or feel like an outcast?.**
This comment brought tears to my eyes. I bet ALOT of us raised in truth wish that someone not only asked us that question when we were 14 but also told us that is OK to be 14 and to live like a 14-year-old.
I think you did GREAT. Congrats.
Again - Nice to see you back here.

I worked in auditing (counting contributions) for many, many years.
People often put notes in the contribution boxes. There are people who are assigned to sort out the various denomination of bills and checks. The notes are immediately set to the side and handed to an attendant. The 'sorters' are not permitted to read any of the notes. If there is something encouraging, the note is read outloud to the entire crowd. Many, many are crumbled up and disposed of.
It might get someone's attention, but most likely it will only be read by AT MOST three or four people at each assembly. That would be if the 'sorter' broke the rules and stole a quick glance, shared it with a co-worker (unlikely), and if the brother collecting the notes shared it with another brother.
To get more attention, you might have greater success planting messages in people's bibles. You know, like you are looking for your own bible and quickly leave a little paper inside so they find it later on. Scatter thru the arena. THAT may get more attention without out too much commotion.
I'm anxious to hear the 'apostate experiences' from this convention. It's my first time on the apostate's side...!

FWIW, I know of a Valerie Blankenship in Ventura County California.
She would be about 40-ish, I think.
I knew her father, too but can't remember his first name.
They were patients of mine. I never knew any JW connection.

would you let your child associate with Jehovahs Witnesses?
by Ellie in.
i'm the only one of my family who is not in 'the truth', and my family don't want anything to do with me.. however, today my mum asked me if she can take my 2 year old to visit the rest of the family, i'm not invited and wouldn't be welcome at any of their houses, so she would be taking my daughter alone.. i told her i would think about it.. i really don't think it would be practical because my daughter is not familiar with the family and i don't want her to be upset.. but the main reason |'m thinking of saying no is that i feel offended that i am not good enough for them to speak to.. am i being selfish if i say no?

No way. No how would I allow it. It's teaching your daughter a terrible lesson. When they are ready to behave civilly and associate with you, then consider including your daughter. At one point my mother considered kidnapping my niece. I was horrified. Those people have done stuff like that before, I would not put it past any of them to do so again. If you are not accepted as her daughter, she does not have a granddaughter. So sad really. -Aude.
