See, jst2laws? That's the same thing that happens with me. The conductor and elders wince in seemingly physical pain and the rest (those skinned and thrown about...) compliment my comments... it is something different than the Pablum (using both connotations) they all swallow, regurgitate, and pass on to the next person who gets the microphone. They don't even drink milk, let alone chew real spiritual meat.

Blondie, I have even used that same scripture explaining my approach to gently waking up others.

Blondie:Jehovah?s Law covenant with the Israelites demanded that compassion be shown to the vulnerable and needy.
Are the needy and vulnerable cared for in your KH or the one you used to go to? Were you a needy, vulnerable one who was overlooked?

Now, Blondie! It's obvious that the Law covenant referred primarily to caring for their spiritual needs, otherwise why would Jesus have critically mentioned telling those in need to go, keep warm and well fed... oh, I see your point . Just kidding.

BluesBrother: Surely there is a fancy name for this type of fallacious reasoning. The statement above is true and appeals to a reasonable person's sense of justice and honesty.

Yes, there is such a name. Quite a sophisticated word. This type of argument is called "sophistry." The WTS writing staff are Sophists. I have freeness of speech. They do not. Their words trip too easily over each other without carefully guarded care.

AK-Jeff: "Dreaming" is how I like to think of it, too. I look at my family like Jesus thought of his dead friend, they're asleep. They're sleepwalking and dreaming, and waking them up has to be done carefully and may take a good bit of time. Ignorance and actions undertaken in ignorance should mitigate reactions to an extent.

so ... maybe you don't know who the original source is.

maybe you got it in an email that has forwarded and then forwarded a zillion times.

Example? I ask because you may be assuming that the "original" source you found on the Internet was not written by the same person who "plagiarized" their own thoughts later.

I believe that if we took a poll we would find that the percentage of former dubs who read that series is much higher than the percentage of the general populace. As part of my attempt to wake my dad up I read the entire first book to him, out loud. He read the rest on his own. To put that in perspective... my dad didn't allow us to watch Star Trek, Star Wars, or Smurfs because of spiritistic overtones, but some months after finishing those books he read The Hobbit. He liked it so much he read the whole LotR series.

HGttG wakes up people's ability to think outside their norms. I don't even believe that was Adams' intent, but his style has that effect anyway. I first read the series when I was 13 and have been recommending it ever since. It is odd to hear my (age 50+) father ask a Circuit Overseer, "You don't know where your towel is, do you?" and laugh at the blank stare he gets in response. "I know where my towel is," he says with a delighted twinkle in his eye that was never there before.

He's not awake yet, but he's getting there.

hey everybody!

hope those who are celebrating the holidays are having a good one, and for those who aren't, hope you are enjoying your freedom!.

i have to tell you about these things i have heard recently.

My company just had its annual Expo in Las Vegas. It was the biggest show we've ever had, with almost 6,000 attendees. Every staff member from host hotel and the Convention Center that I spoke with was gushing about how the people who were coming to that show were the best bunch of people they had ever worked with. The guys from the AV company liked us so much, they gave us $3,500-$4,000 dollars worth of rental equipment for free!

The secret? We treated them like real people. That was all there was to it. It was great! A real shining example of Christlike personality in action, and as far as I know only one person on the scene was a JW (besides me). He had some crumpled tracts in his pocket, one of which he handed me. He had no clue I was his "brother" and was the rudest, most inconsiderate person I dealt with the entire week. Most everyone else was growing facial hair, so you know they weren't "good christians" .

Happy Holidays to All! Hugs all 'round!

Remember, if you want to be a Christian, simply be like Christ! If not... then don't... I guess.
