Do you think her big ole plaid skirt is turning him on? Can you imagine a matching bra and panty set? That'd be hilarious!

DNA - belief destuction
by donkey inthe single largest reason to decimate my belief in jw?s and all biblical faith occurred when i discovered some facts about our cells.
specifically a part of the cell called mitochondria.
mitochondria are sometimes described as "cellular power plants" because their primary purpose is to manufacture adenosine triphosphate (atp), which is used as a source of energy that the cell uses.. as humans one inherits one?s mitochondria only from one's mother, this finding implies that all living humans have a female line of descent from a woman whom researchers have dubbed mitochondrial eve.

I never could wrap my brain around the fact that the whole Bible was written about things that happened in the middle east. The Garden of Eden and Jesus... etc.
What about the bush people in New Guinea? What about the native Indians of the Americas? What about the eskimos? the aborigines? What about all the people who due to transportation and communication limitations were never affected by the Bible? What about their history? Why should the story of Adam & Eve be THE story, when there are many different versions of history, passed down in many different cultures?

Going to my first meeting this morning
by Bug inhi there i'm new here, my name is fiona i am not yet a jw and have not started to study yet.
i am very interested in doing so but since i am still new to all this i thought i should attend some meetings first.
i am going to my first one today at the kelvin hall in glasgow, i am quite nervous as i do not know what to expect but also excited at the same time since it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life.

Well Bug, I spent 10 years trying to recover from being raised in the cult known as Jehovahs Witnesses. They will seem friendly and nice and offer you answers to all sorts of questions, but make sure you spend some time of your own INVESTIGATING the whole religion for yourself.

Dating Sites
by ballistic inhas anyone tried dating web sites?
i am a member of a famous one, but i am finding it takes so long to get to know someone and the person you finally meet can turn out nothing like you expected.
currently i've been chatting to someone for 6 months - "speed dating" in slow motion!

I dated quite a few guys off match.com and ended up marrying my husband who had posted an ad.
I generally would exchange a few emails, if we both were interested I would meet up for coffee or whatever after the first couple weeks... I never wanted to drag something out because you could waste time on someone that you'd never really want to date, after meeting in person... due to many factors, they are too short, they are not your type, they have a goofy obnoxious laugh, they spend the time checking out every girl that walks by.. etc.
After the 1st date, you generally know if you want to pursue it... after my 3rd date with my husband I knew he was perfect. 22 months later we got married.
BUT I always stayed away from anyone that posted an overly sexual ad. I wasn't interested in any players, or any one night stands.

Love & Marriage: Easier w/JW-Out or Non-Believer?
by prophecor inmany of us have spouses within & outside of the borg.
others are married to those who never shared our beliefs.
for those who are no longer practicing jw's, how are you navigating your relationships with your spouses or signifigant others?

I married someone who didn't know much about the WTS, we fit perfectly. I think it's like someone else said about marrying into normalicy. It helps balance me out, although I consider myself pretty normal anyways.
I really can't imagine ever being married to a JW, I would have hated it, I am too indepedant, too out-spoken, and hate being controlled. I would have never been the SUBMISSIVE wife! HA!

TGIF -- Thank Goodness I'm Free
by MerryMagdalene inwhat freedom are you thankful for tonight and what are you doing with it?.
i remember a whole lotta friday nights spent at the hall having the "same old same old" drilled into my skull, listening for something they could never say, waiting for something that would never come, wondering where the spirit of life and light and love was that i so longed to tap into... or sometimes just wishing i could be out walking under the stars or be home watching a crappy tv show.
so tonight i am thankful i am free to do with my friday nights (and all my days and nights) what i will, free of guilt and anxiety and spiritual starvation, and i am here enjoying good company while sporadically playing hide and seek with my young daughter who would be thankful that she is not required to sit down and shut up for long, meaningless blocks of time if she had ever been exposed to it, and i'm thankful she hasn't.. what about you?

I think freedom to enjoy HAPPINESS. That I don't have to wait until some imaginary "new system" comes along.. or doesn't... I actually can enjoy life and be happy today.

BTW, I watched the show and I really liked it. It was filmed like a documentary, no spin, just showed the situation and stated facts.
I did think it was ironic, they treated a 17 year old with severe hypothermia. He had been stuck outside after a duck hunting accident where they lost their boat, he came in with a core body temp somewhere in the 70's.. they used a heart machine to treat his hypothermia... they removed his own blood from his body and warmed it in this machine and cycled it back through his body...Let his blood warm him slowly from the inside. I kept thinking to myself, if this was a JW kid, would they have refused him treatment too? Because some JWs won't allow your own blood to be removed and then pumped back in. The kid was basically dead if he wasn't treated and they saved his life using that method. When the JW woman was laying there near death, the Doc asked if they could use her own blood if they operated and the husband said no.
So I concluded that if that was his 17 yoa son, that kid maybe would have died too.

Blood is an organ, if one refuses a heart transpland, nobody is alowed to say anything, what is the difference.
Check again, blood is NOT an organ. Your heart is an organ and believe it or not, you skin is the largest organ in your body, yes, your skin... but blood, nope, it's NOT an organ.
Whether or not a blood transfusion is good or bad for you is all relative.... But it should remain up to the patient and his/her Doctor to decide treatment, it should not involve a religious organization. It's a personal matter and a personal choice. No one should be threatened with getting destroyed at armeggedon or not being resurrected because of their choice.

Giving admonition via Watchtower writing department...
by Bryan inalong the lines of old soul's plea to afin, and afin's in abiltily to provide scriptual guidance/proof/support for old soul's questions; i began to think.. have you ever given guidance/support/councel with the written publications because there were no scriptures?.
when i was a mini-servant around 1984, there was a "brother" who would brag about his oral sex encounters with his new wife.
i knew it was "wrong" (also a little crude), but i coundn't find a scripture for the councel.

Don't you know that everything is based on the Bible? It says so right here in my Watchtower!
My mom sold me on so many of those issues that were 100% WTS teachings, not the bible. Pure crapola!

Gawd, the grey areas are so confusion that I can't keep up.
Either something is wrong completely, or it's not. Black or white... I don't understand the need to make all the grey areas... it's because they keep changing and people don't realize it.
