Diary of a nobody

hi, i'm new to these forums so i thought i would share some experiences of when i was a jw.. i was born in 1976 into a staunch jw family.

my grandparents, parents, aunties, uncles, cousins etc etc were all jw's going back to the 1950's.

when i was a child my parents, like a lot of jw parents, didn't let me have worldly friends.

You will find that so many of us have the same story... very weird similarities. I was born in 1974, I too was home schooled, although I live in the USA. I was raised poor and we were looked down on in the congregation. I had questions, I ended up leaving and currently take college classes even though I am years behind. I went into couseling though when I was about 25 and really got my head on straight.

You will get there. Change is a really hard thing, especially when you realize that everything you have believed isn't true. It's like being told gravity isn't true. I believed with all my mind and heart in Armeggedon and suddenly one day it didn't make sense anymore, but it took years for me to finally "get it" ... so give yourself time to recover, keep working at your education. You are young, and have a great future ahead of yourself. Don't stress too much or worry too much. Take enjoyment in the simple things and I promise things will work out for you in time.

DA-ing Announcement in the Society's New Book

the society's new book 'organized to do jehovah's will', to be released in the congregations .

on the 20th of march, introduces a change in the df and da announcements.

announcements will read the same: "[name of person] is no longer one of jehovah's .

That kinda changes things though, because when someone was announced as being DA's, everyone would just be SHOCKED because they CHOSE to leave, and they must really be an apostate, etc.... as opposed to when someone gets DF'd, everyone is like "well they sinned and they are being punished"

Now, no one knows if they elders did it, or if the publisher did it themselves.

i was just in hippi's "i'm back" thread and he can't come up with a story.

the story can be about anything.

it can be true or completely made up.

Lena was a Swedish model (true bit here) that posed for Playboy in their most sold issue ever, Nov 1972. Not only was she gorgeous, but her picture ended up being used in a lot of engineering magazines as the model for image processing....

So, there was a cowboy, his gorgeous Swedish wife, and the fisherman that came along and offered her a life at sea if she would only leave her cowboy man.

Refusing magazines/books from JW relatives

recently my mother dropped in on us and in front of other people, very nicely handed me some trinkets aka dust collectors for my house and some wts magazines.

the way she handed everything to me at once i just held out my hands and took it all.. i threw the magazines away immediately, i consider them trash and don't even want them around... but then decided exactly what i was going to do.

i am going to buy a yard sale cross or virgin mary statue and give it to my mom.. i specifically told her i don't want any publications and she slipped them in anyways.... so, on that note, she hates any religious icons, i am going to give her something that she doesn't want.

Well, for those of you that feel that it is disrespectful, maybe it's because you don't really know me or my mother or our situation. My mother has never shown me respect... but I'm not going to defend my position. I found humor in posting that yesterday, I have no idea if I ever will do it, I just found it quite humorous.

And by the way... those garage sale trinkets and dishes she dropped off for me... her gift??? Well, she asked me to pay her $27 for them because she went out of her way and picked me some things up. So I actually was nice enough to pay her for them, even though everything wasn't my style or taste. That's how she gives me gifts, recycled garage sale or thrift shop finds that she charges me for. Maybe that is why I felt a bit snarky about the whole thing.

By buying her a gift? By inviting her to my home for a party? Actually I thought I was being nice!

How old do the Witnesses say the earth is?

we all know that the witnesses say that adam would be a little over 6000 years old.

they use the bible to back that up.. how old do they say the earth is, and what would they use to back that up?.

I always heard "6,000 years of recorded history" and something that a creation day was a thousand years long, not a 24 hour period. But I can't really remember, that just pops into my head.

Parents

just got off the phone with my mom which was mostly a pleasant conversation.

we were talking about moving around to different places and asked if we desire to see more of the us why don't we just pack up and go?

i stated that we wanted to adopt or have a child in a few years.

You can't control what your parents worry about. You can't control what they think of you, what they feel about you, in fact you can't control any of it.

So, at some point you'll have to quit worrying about what they are worrying about and just get on with living and being happy. It's extremely sad, but true.

Memories of my judicial committee meeting....

you know, i was reading one of the posts about how dubs rat each other out - and good god, i was excellent at that, i even frickin ratted myself out, sad really!

it brought to mind my judicial committee meeting: .

I ratted myself out too, back when I was 18 for kissing boys. I thought I had committed some horrible evil sin.

I even ratted on a couple other people... I hate that I did it, but I was very young, and not mature enough to realize it was all a sham.

Being "out" is so different, I do the right thing because I want to, not out of obligation.
