Let me ask you this question, if a dog gets hits by a car and is paralysed WOULD YOU HOOK IT UP TO A FEEDING TUBE? If an animal is unable to eat, what extreme measures would you take?
Seriously, would you hook your dog up to a respirator or a feeding tube? No you wouldn't. You would allow the dog to die a peaceful death.

No, I said go to a nursing home and see what it looks like. I said "I've been there" referring to nursing homes and that includes working at my local hospital as a student.
In my opinion, watching a body die slowly from the inside out is inhumane. Allowing someone a peaceful passing is much more humane. Of course, that is my opinion.

Actually the courts would side with whatever as in writing. If they had a signed "blood card" they would have to side with it. If the person had a living will stating differently, they would side with that. If there was no written directives they would side with the GUARDIAN, which once you're married becomes your spouse.
It comes down to, get your affairs in order, talk to your Doctor, put it in writting. Your choices and your requests will be honored but only if you make them known.

It's a good thing I will be exercising my right to vote because I think it's much more humane to allow someone to die that expressed that as their wish, than have everyone butt into a personal matter and voice their opinion on how wrong it is.

She doesn't have cognitive functions. Her brain scans have shown that there isn't cognitive activity.
Like someone said earlier, you don't think it would be painful to be locked down to a bed for 15 years? Have you thought about bed sores? Sickness? Infection, diapers, etc. IS THAT PAINLESS?
Cutting someone open and inserting a tube IS playing God. She wasn't able to chew food, if they hadn't performed surgery she would have died 15 years ago, but they cut into her, and inserted a tube. That is called LIFE SUPPORT.
Write your living wills, if you want to live in a vegetative state for the rest of your life, I suggest you go visit a nursing home and see what it's really like. SEE FOR YOURSELF what that would mean for your body. Then make a decision. I've been there, and know it's an inhumane way to die.

Our elders used to take them out back and dump them on the ground. They said they were returning it back to the earth since it represented Jesus' body. I asked them when I was really young. I thought if it was so holy why would you just dump it outside on the ground?

Regarding the blood issue, would the courts allow babies to die? NO, they are not adults, they don't have decision making powers of their own.
Terry told 3 people she wouldn't want to be kept alive on life support. She is not a baby or a child, she made a choice. I commend the people that listened to her wishes.
I know if I got sick today my mother would push that I wouldnt' want a blood transfusion because I was a JW. Which is NOT the case. I am no longer a JW nor do I subscribe to their teachings. My husband knows that I truly would want in life. Think about your parents, do they know everything about you?

I think it's different circumstances, although I sympathize with what you're saying regarding people who would rather be dead than be in your shoes. People talk out of their ass sometimes. There is NO parrallel between Germany in the 40's and Terry Shiavo.
The people in concentration camps were there against their will.
Terry told 3 people should wouldn't want to be hooked up to machines or tubes. Doctors keep stating this is a form of "life support" whether you are administering oxygen or food, it's still a tube put in during surgery to sustain the life you can't support on your own. I have stated I wouldn't want it, why can't everyone believe her husband and her 2 friends who remember she said she WOULDN'T WANT IT? It's about HER CHOICE, not ours.
Someone can't breathe on their own so they surgically insert a tube to push air into you. Someone can't eat on their own so they surgically insert a tube to push food into you. What is the difference? You can't live without oxygen, you can't live without food.... they are equal forms of life support. In one you die very fast, in the other you die within days to weeks. Either way she is in a vegetative state which she said she WOULDN'T WANT.
Her parents are fighting for their wants, needs, and opinions. Not those of her daughters. Every single judge and court has sided with Terry and dismissed the parents. Doesn't this say anything?

i have not been to a meeting for over a year now, and neither has my wife.
Some things are personal. You don't need to discuss everything with your parents. You can be kind and respectful without airing your personal laundry to them. You don't need to discuss every bit of your sex life with your parents, and neither do you need to discuss every aspect of your spiritual life with them.
I think it's commendable that they love you and wanted you to know that. Keep the communication open and continue the fade, even if the pressure mounts.
