Methods used to defend the WTBTS - how sound are they?

have you ever noticed that the watchtower apologists always use the same argaments to defend the organization - and that these arguments are the same ones they use in reverse to attack 'false' religion?that the organization is made up of imperfect men - therefore it is bound to make errors in both doctrine and action at times.

but that argument is not accepted for say the catholic faith or the lutherans when they attempt to refute the accusation that they have not the 'truth'that we will wait on jehovah to clear up that issue or this - but the other religions are not allowed that defense.that we changed doctrine due to new light on the matter - but the other religions are following 'teachings of demons'.

I like the quote "all in due time" that Jehovah is working and it isn't the "due" time yet.

It's the TRUTH! If you question any aspect of the TRUTH, you are taking sides against Jehovah and his organization!!!!

You can't compare the Society to mere mortals, even though we know they are just men, they have shrowded in all sorts of mystique and the JW's all follow their lead.

It makes me think of the High Priest back in Isrealite times that was the only person worthy enough to go into the "inner room" or sacred chamber and that no one else could ever walk in there because it was so holy. Yes, human, but somehow linked to God.

I am actually very optimistic, they will probably show the different theories and ideas and present some scientists in addition to some religious leaders on it. It might be informative and might make people realize that it's all guesswork based on some writings of old men written thousands of years ago.

It might take the hocus pocus out of it and speak factually.

Jesus celebrated with his close friends... you really could do it anywhere if you feel it's important.

Personally I don't think it's important to do either. I think his message of love is more important than if you have religiously attended all memorials but you treat your family like dirt.

Looking for my Japanese mother

i've posted about this story in the past, but i've decided to do it again.

i posted a thread last year with my full name on it and just the other day, realized, when i google myself, that thread comes up.

i felt like dad had my step-mom and the twin boys had each other.

My co-worker is who is married to a Japanese woman and was stationed there for years with the USAF said that everyone who is born in Japan gets a "hon seki sho hon" that is spelled the best we could come up with, but is your birth certificate and they link all family members together. Basically the government builds family trees. When you move from one Japanese "perfecture" or county to another, your information including your record of birth moves with you. They actually track your movement. He said they keep excellent records and if you had a Japanese birth certificate or a "hon seki sho hon" yourself, you would be linked to your mother already in their system.

You might not have been given one if you born on base, but you might have one, being born to a Japanese mother.

He said the best thing to do is contact the Japanese consulate and have them track your birth mother of your information and see if you are linked up.

Do you have your mother's full name? or is the name posted her first name?

I have a guy that I work with that was stationed in Japan for years and his wife is Japanese. I am going to ask him about it. He is fluent in Japanese also.

What are your thoughts on the composite sign?

lately i've been giving a lot of thought on my decision to leave the wts behind and during the course of my musing i contemplated the meaning of the composite sign.

and then it kind of struck me that perhaps this composite sign was really just a declaration of the obvious.

for example some of the elements of the composite sign are: famine, pestilence, reports of natural disasters (earthquakes, etc..).

The thing is, wars have always been around. Some of the bloodiest most violent wars are in the Bible. I think war casualties have actually decreased since we fight differently, less man to man combat and more tanks etc. Yes, lots of people still die, but I do believe that the population continues to grow despite hunger, wars, etc. In fact back in my environmental science class the teacher said that the population was increasing too greatfly for the environment.

I don't believe we're near the "end" and if we are, there is no reason to live your life in constant fear. Might as well live your life happily and make the best of it.

what was the silliest thing taken away from you as a child because of its supposed evil influence?

i remember when i was about 5 or 6 years old, my mum gave me a copy of the 1812 overture.

i remember it as a real cool gift at the time.

Back when I was 18,19 I worked next to the local libray, so I'd go check out books and read them at work and hide them in my car. My mom found them and threatened to burn them all. But then I told her that they were government library property, so she did return them, but threatned me and told me I could never check out those devil inspired books again.

At the time I was suicidal and depressed and I had checked out Dr.Wayne Dyer's self help books. She thought they were horrible. Wayne Dyer was the Dr.Phil of the 70's and 80's and has nothing satanic at all in any of his books. I loved his stuff.

why is it that the only time they will announce why someone was df'd from the platform is for apostacy?

but if someone is a direct threat to children, raping them, they won't say why?

it just does'nt make sense.

I don't remember every hearing why anyone was DF'd,... they just make sure that the Thurs meeting has a talk about the particular sin and then everyone talks about the fact the person MUST have committed that particular sin.

i have been bothered for some time by the sneaking suspicion that the publisher increases published annually are never realized in a tangible way.

therefore, i sat down and studied a 10 year period of what has been published by the society to see if i could get a warm and fuzzy feeling about these increases.

Been out 2880 days... That's awesome.

I faded for a while, quit going out in "service" but went to occasional meetings. Quit meetings altogether in Jan '97. It was such a relief. I remember feeling just totaly relief. No guilt at all.

I went to the Memorial for about 7 years because my mom asked me to. Once I was DF'd she wouldn't ride in the same car as me and I figured that was it. I haven't been in 3 years and I don't miss it a bit. I wasn't going for myself, I went for her.

But I could care less anymore, I wouldn't be able to sit respectfully through any of that BS anymore. The "talk" is always the same year after year anyways.
