  Do you really believe his name is Jehovah?

  i read an article somewhere when i first started studying with the jw's that said that the name jehovah was actually just a hypothesis from a monk in the year 700 or some other thing.. i don't remember if this is correct in the year or where i read it - i read so many things when i first learned what the witnesses were really about.

  everything i could get my hands on.. but for some reason i don't know why but calling god jehovah just really bugs me and always makes me think of the witnesses.. does it bother anybody else and do you think if he exists his name really is jehovah?

  The whole thing is truly silly, because we have changed the word into English and pronounce it differently than they would have pronounced it thousands of years ago. So to me it's a pointless issue.

  I loved how the JWs used to say "you can't address him just by God because it's a title like Mr or Mrs, you aren't addresssing Him by his name"

  OK, using that reasoning, who else is listening???? I mean I was sold the idea that God listens to my silent prayers, if I am praying and I use the term God, is he going to get confused? God will be thinking.. "is she talking to me??" Like WHO ELSE OUT THERE IS LISTENING???? Do you get my point? Why can't you use a title, since "Mr.President" is being used for the ONE AND ONLY president of the United States... I mean if I say God and there is only one true God, why wouldn't he answer? We were taught that the false Gods were just human inventions, so if they aren't real, then surely they won't be getting all confused up there in heaven.

  I am not sure I would call it MY mistake. I was 11 years old, under the influence of my parent. I was still a child. Just as I didn't make the choice was vehicle our family purchased, what city we lived in, what laundry detergent my mother bought, I also didn't have the choice of what religion I was.

  I still do not believe that children can be made accountable for a life long committment when the courts of our land still say that children are under the care of parents. If at 11 years old age I had gotten a gun from my mother's gun cabinet, under my state's law, she would be prosecuted as she was the adult who was supposed to be in charge of the weapon.

  It's not my mistake. I was not an informed adult. But yes, a mistake it definitely was.

  I NEED SOME FEEDBACK!

  you guys i need help...please bear with as this is a rather long post...i had to give you guys the history of this....there still might be things i'm leaving out, but i'll explain in the future..... my sister wants me to help her plan my parent's wedding anniversary party.

  they never celebrated it in the past because my dad is an idiot.

  my wife and i declined to assist because of the way they have treated us in the past and because of the preferential treatment given to my sister and my fathers 7 other children.

  I do believe you could participate in the planning, help pay for expenses, buy a wonderful gift, and you might not even get a thank you out of it. People don't change much

  If I was in your shoes, I would attend, but not participate.. .being pagan you don't want to "taint" their celebration!!!

  Praise the Lord and pass the biscuits

  i went to the house of blues in orlando this morning for their "gospel brunch" services.

  it was like church, well a southern black church with gospel singing, electric guitar, lots of the holy spirit... we all testified we were a witness to the lord and said many a halelujah!!!.

  music, singing, and dancing... all while eating cheese grits, bacon, roast beef, shrimp, and drinking a few mimosas.

  I went to the House of Blues in Orlando this morning for their "Gospel Brunch" services. It was like church, well a southern black church with gospel singing, electric guitar, lots of the Holy Spirit... we all testified we were a witness to the Lord and said many a Halelujah!!!

  Music, singing, and dancing... all while eating cheese grits, bacon, roast beef, shrimp, and drinking a few mimosas.

  It was truly the best religious experience of my life... we had a blast. That is exactly what church SHOULD be like. Spiritual food in the form of music for your soul and physical food for your body. Even Jesus fed his apostles with fish and bread... He knew what he was doing. It was awesome!!!

  I know it's been commercialized, that it's not a true church, but it sure felt like it to me. It was wonderful. Absolutely the best. If you ever get the chance to go, you should check it out.

  Cabbage Patch Dolls?

  looking at the smurf thread i was wondering, in my congregation in the 80's there were also storys of demonic cabbage patch dolls attacking jw kids.

  i wasn't allowed to have one because they might be demonized.

  was it just my cong.

  tonight i'm voting in the official "word of the year" election held at the annual american dialect society conference.

  what words do you think should merit being considered the best word of 2004?

  as defined by the ads, the word of the year is the word that "most colored the nation's lexicon, or otherwise dominated the national discourse.

  Met a JW elder for the first time since leaving JW

  i left about 14 months back and stopped attending meetings cold turkey.

  so i haven't seen any jws for ages and for some reason i've never bumped into them at the mall or in town - and i guess that means they haven't seen me either or know what i'm up to.. i was at a cafe with a male friend today, we look like a typical couple that is we're the same age, shop together etc but its purely platonic.

  but you know how it is with jw .

  i got a call this morning from my son's ex-girlfriend.

  she and i are still friends and i have filled her in on the jw's believes and all the bs they call the truth.

  she is fairly young, 23 and very meek and mild.

  An End To The Quick-Build KH?

  i've just been talking with a recently departed dub elder.

  he tells me that the wtbts are becoming very wary of lending money for kh "quick-builds".

  he says that, in the uk at least, there are brothers who act as building inspectors who have been appointed by the society to make sure that any new kh being built comes up to certain minimum standards before the society will part with any mortgaged money.. this, he says, has brought to an end the era of the quickie partly pre-fabricated kingdom hall, so beloved of the local news conscious dubbies.

  I just think that there isn't enough new converts to need NEW halls being built. I am sure they are still doing it here and there, but I don't think there is much growth in my area.

  I did have lots of fun doing them, back in the day... but the safety was a joke. I remember being 14 yoa and being given an air nailer after a 5 minute lesson. I was on the roof air nailing shingles in. I even got my picture in the newspaper... but seriously who would give a 14 yoa girl an air nailer? I could have had an accident so easily.

  I was thinking Bennifer was the most used word in 2004.

  Then politically with the election I was thinking

  michaelmoore or bush and all the bush loving/hating jokes.

  Then again it might have been the year of ParisHilton.
