  BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?

  i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.

  while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).

  a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

  Did u hear he raped a 12 year old and an old lady? He gave a public talk went home and the cops showed up to make the bust. His wife Cynthia and their kids had been forewarned.

  my vote for the worst watchtower term is:.

  circumcision of the heart!.

  i can't believe that there are people who can not only say "circumcision of the heart" with a straight face in front of the congregation, but defend its 'meaning'.. other runners up in my opinion:.

  Is the "My Book of Bible Stories" appropriate reading for Little Ones?

  my little boy, aged 4 1/2 loves his bedtime stories, and also loves "jesus stories" as he calls them... .

  now, i have never gotten around to going to a book store and actually buying a childrens bible story book from the shops (yes...i still have a bit of a mental block and some deep seated issues about any religious literature).

  my mom gave my kids a copy of the bible story book, as well as listening to the great teacher (the new soft cover book - think it is called that?

  My mother in law has given our son the Bible Stories book and Jesus book a couple of times now and we're happy to take them to throw them in the trash later.

  This last time was difficult though because my son doesn't understand and thinks it's a nice book with cool pictures.

  No way in hell my son will be exposed to this crap! My husband wants a relationship with his mom so badly that he considered -- for one second -- to let her study with his son just so she'd let him in her life. I hoo'd and haw'd that one to death!

  This is not harmless stuff we're dealing with here. This is the beginning of the dumbing down.

  SPEEDING UP THEIR OWN DEMISE?

  we all know the majority of the society's elders are absolutely useless when it comes to dealing with family matters and as i was sat here reading a number of posts it suddenly occurred to me that watchtower may have started to speed up its own demise.. before i exited my old congregation a young elder was appointed.

  he was married without children (they don't want any).

  after i exited i heard of another young elder who was appointed (they, too, have no children and i don't think they want any either).. the service overseer was a young elder (a right big head and son of the p.o.).

  My sister and her husband are waiting until after the Big A. So are my sister in law and her elder husband. Both couples are nearing the age where it will soon be too late to change their minds! And BOTH couples were around in 1995!!!

  I've said this for many years to my sister: "If no one has any kids, how is the organization going to survive into the next century?"

  Her answer: "Jehovah's blessing will bring in right-hearted ones." LOL all the way to the bank!

  I remember asking a lady if she'd like me to study with her and her entire family. The lady accepted and the following day I brought over 6 Hard Cover New World Translations and 6 Hard Cover Knowledge Books. She didn't give me any donation and I surely didn't pay for them. Every time I went and knocked on their door after that, they were *never home* LOL!

  Guess they really didn't want that study after all. Makes me laugh at the thought of all those great sucky books being thrown out put to good use.

  How can you believe in "sola scriptura" when there was no new testament canon in the first century? The Church came before the bible. The new testament canon wasn't decided upon until the 4th century! So for the first few hundred years of Christianity, no one believed in "sola scriptura". That was an invention that came much later!

  I went the way of the RCC after leaving JWs. I was brought up Catholic and so it was easy since my family was already Catholic.

  It made sense since that's where we got the New Testament to begin with.

  Now I'm pretty much agnostic bordering on atheism.
