I am still trying to figure this out. Is this especially incriminating because the British Branch has gone AGAINST what the WTS really wanted in the way of procedures? To me, it seems to show that the US elders were FOLLOWING ORDERS, which would make the WTS liable and would be penalized legally. Am I getting it or am I way off?

"Special" meeting in October?
by Esmeralda inquestion.
my mother told my husband that there is to be a 'special meeting' in october at the local sports arena (same place as dc's are held here) and that "only publishers are allowed to attend" that they will get "special cards" for admission from their local congregation and have to hand them in to get into the building.
i have no idea if this has anything to do with the "annual meeting" they always have (isn't that generally in october?

Max, I know you can only say so much to protect yourself and your family but it is in my nature to want more juicy details. What is this meeting going to be about? Is there any tid-bit that you can share with us? Does it have to do with the pedophile catastrophe?
Sorry if you can't say more it's just that you always leave me with a sweet tooth - it's like taking one little bite of a Snickers bar and then somebody takes the rest away.

I don't know if I've read "Coming Home to Rome" or not. If it's the one by Scott and Kimberly Hahn, then I've read it. Other books which are good are: Born Fundamentalist Born Again Catholic; The King's Highway by Kenneth Guindon (a former JW); Surprized by Truth (numerous short conversion stories of protestant pastors and religious leaders and what lead them to convert); and a really good one, By What Authority.
You can purchase most of these books at Saint Joseph Communications. I'll have to get their number for you if you want email me at [email protected] and I'll give it to you. There is also a website but I don't know the link by heart. They also have a few tapes from JW converts.
I just want to add that I DO NOT LIKE to try to "convert" people to Catholicism. I believe we are all brothers in Christ no matter what denomination you belong to. I feel that the Catholic Church is the one founded by Christ but that doesn't mean that no other religion has truth too. I just wanted to make that clear because I don't like to be dogmatic. I share my experiences with you and that's it. Good luck to you in your search.

I'm sorry Max and Marilyn, but I don't quite understand why they would have two differing policies. What's up with that? I mean, if they wanted to preserve the name of the borg, wouldn't they have the same policy everywhere.
Sorry ... I didn't sleep the whole night last night and can't seem to think this through on my own right now.

Does Barbara actually have proof (i.e., a paper trail) which exposes the WTS as covering up pedophilia? If so, do we have to wait until Dateline airs before we get to see it?

OldHippie: Just found your comments to me. Just wanted to let you know that you DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO ASSHOLE! I post what I want, when I want and how I want!
And you will notice it is not an "isolated" instance (contrary to what you WISH). You're a typical JW idiot! And don't talk to me about judging people's motives, mind, etc. I saw what I saw and it was real. Actions speak clearly in the JW halls! They reveal the true attitude of JW's. Or do you mind explaining to me why the elders wanted to kick the guy out of the hall in a thunderstorm with an empty stomach. My story clearly illustrated Farkel's post in real life action. And Farkel's quotations show that the R&F JW's follow instructions.
PS: Thank God my faith was NOT rooted in this pathetic excuse for a religion!

Hi Willy-think. I did just as you. And I did become Catholic again. Have you read the book, "A Heavenly Journey" by Veralyn R. Alpha? This book is a fictional story about an angel who comes to a man who is strongly anti-Catholic. The angel takes the man back through the centuries to the early fathers. It puts the man in the very same room as the early fathers and quotes the early fathers writings -- their interpretations of what is in the Bible. It's really good.
The back cover says this: If it were possible for you to visit the early Church, would your beliefs be the same, or would the first Christians have considered you heretical or schismatic?
Here is a fictional account ofa young evangelist who accompanies the Archangel Gabriel back to the early days of the Church to contrast his current beliefs with those of the first Christians. Although the story is fictitious, the information quoted and the words of the angel are based on historical and Biblical facts, primarily gathered from unbiased sources such as Bibles, encyclopedias, and other reference books. Because the story emphasizes the "factual" side, the main objective here is to encourage the reader to examine his or her own beliefs with those who formulated the infant Church after the Ascension of Jesus, its founder.
Here is a simple yet interesting storyline, packed with historical and Biblical truths, that enables all of us to uncover the basis for those differences that have separated many denominations from the Catholic Church.
The author, Veralyn R. Alpha, along with her entire family, converted to Catholicism....
The publisher is Faith Publishing Company.
BTW: Have you read the letters of Pope Clement? Very interesting reading there. Or the Didache?

Farkel, I just posted this reply to another post but coincidentally, it is an living example, in practice, of what you describe in your post:
I remember one day towards the end of my JW life, a young Mexican man came into the hall just before the meeting. It was pouring rain outside. Thunder and lightening. The man came in to get out of the storm. He asked if it was a church to which I replied that it was. He must have thought it was a Christian Church because he asked for food. I said I would see what I could do. While I went to talk to my husband, I noticed a couple of elders suspiciously talking to the man. They had unfriendly and unhospitable looks on their faces. He only spoke Spanish so I went over.
I couldn't believe my ears. They were asking me to find out what he wanted. I told them that he was hungry. He had just come over the border and had no place to eat or sleep. The elders wanted me to tell him that we were sorry but we couldn't help him. Instead I told him to wait, my husband would help him. The elders did not like this because it made them look bad. I didn't want to bring a stranger home with us, but he was hungry. Plus, even if he was bull-shitting us, who cares? What's it gonna cost to feed the guy a McDonalds burger and fries? So he sat through the meeting (my husband had a part so we couldn't leave).
We went and talked to a few other elders. I couldn't believe that the very ones (one in particular) who made it a habit to be into everything that was none of his business - and I mean every little thing, were ignoring the situation and pretending it wasn't happening. It was not their concern. Nobody would pitch in $5 bucks to get the guy to a cheap motel. I was sick to my stomach. The same idiots who thought themselves high and mighty and oh so holy because they had repaired the CO's roof, didn't want to help a fellow human being. My husband and I took the guy to a motel and paid for it ourselves. We bought him dinner and told him where to go the next day to get a day labor job. It was the least we could do to not bring "reproach" on Jehovah's organization after the way the elders behaved. And it wasn't just the elders. It was the entire congregation. Afterwards we got slack for it. Everybody had something to say.
The thing is that I had worked for a Catholic rectory when I was a teenager. And daily people came asking for food. We always had food to spare. We had a closet full of canned goods and people would regularly donate meats and dairy products. Never did we turn anyone away. Many times all an illegal immigrant had to do was go to Mass on Sunday and he would make contacts for employment afterward while having coffee and donuts in the auditorium. My dad would oftentimes hire different ones to help him with yard-work and once they even stayed in our club-house in our backyard for a few days. We always gave them some of our family meals and we got to listen to their stories about their families back home and their plight. Those memories came flooding towards me.
I can tell you that I probably attended 10 meetings after this event. My faith in the organization had already begun to erode and this was just one more thing to chip away at the dissonance I had already acquired by this time. Such an obvious lack of love didn't go unnoticed by my kids either!
Didn't Jesus say that whoever sees a man hungry and doesn't feed him it was like doing it to Him? Those are the ones he will say, "Get away from me! I never knew you!"
The GB conveniently apply this scripture to themselves. They say that by selling their magazines we are doing it for the "least" of Jesus' brothers. But I ask, "How can this apply to them when they are not in jail? They are not naked? They are not hungry? So how could we follow Jesus' command to them? How can we visit them in jail? How can we clothe them when they're naked? How can we feed them when they're hungry?" Obviously, it applies to our neighbor.
Every time I see the magazines bragging about themselves and how they help victims of natural disasters even though they are not JW's. I just feel like barfing. They do nothing unless they can have bragging rights. Nevermind those who do things in silence, seeking their reward in heaven.
I think this lack of love is a great way to go. I am sure every JW will have a similar story. The lack of love is OBVIOUS.
See, Farkel, you are absolutely right. What you have is righteous indignation! These pathetic slime-bucket, sons of the devil, have taken Jesus' words and twisted them. They are EVIL!
