First century disciples vs the Society

i'm having a discussion with my wife about the society's changes in doctrines and failed predictions.

she basically is using the argument that the society is fallible just like the the first century disciples.

so this neatly excuses the society for any erroneous teachings or failed prophecies.. how would you counter-argue that type of reasoning?

Did the disciples of Jesus have wrong expectations? Yes. Did Jesus correct them? Yes. When did Jesus correct them? Right away. Is Jesus the head of THIS "Christian" congregation? They would say yes. Then why didn't he correct their wrong expectations right away, before they got out of hand? Why did Jesus allow these wrong expectations to become PRONOUNCEMENTS and PROCLAMATIONS in his name? Why did he allow his own followers (the least of his brothers) to be stumbled by the failure of these proclamations to be fulfilled? And finally, isn't Jesus guilty of stumbling his own disciples if he did this?

How's that off the top of my head?

Happiest Day?

if you had to name one, what would be the happiest day of your life so far?.

mine would have to be the day that i first met justin in person.

that was the day i was positive that we'd spend our lives together.. that was also the day i knew that i was really free of the borg, for good.. anyone feel like telling?.

Hi Essie! My happiest day was .... I can't think of any one single day. I think it was the day Chris gave me my ring and asked me to be his wife. And I've had so many more happy days since. It's hard to pinpoint just one.

This thread gets better by the minute! So now they are "partners" with the beast. I called my sister up and asked her to do me a favor. I said I am looking into the United Nations as an organization to see how exactly the beast fornicates with the harlot. She sounded totally into it. She said she will print up whatever she finds on her CD Rom. I'll take it nice and slow and thanks to you all I have plenty of ammunition!

PS: Dungbeetle, is your name taken after the wingled globe? Just wondering.

Belbab, you make some interesting comments. I wonder though how you know that the UN was embarrassed about the Christian missionaries in Afghanistan. Also how do you know that the UN doesn't want its NGO's using their affiliation for the propagation of their beliefs? Please explain how you came to your conclusions when you have more time.

Dubs Worked My Street Today

this morning, i went outside for a smoke, and lo and behold, down the street i saw 2 dubs just starting their door-to-door work.

it was an older dub brother i used to know from my old congregation, and an unidentifiable sister.

i knew that they would not be good candidates for the current un/ngo discussion, as he is a dub who really doesn't get it.

Individuals wife: maybe we should all get business cards and put Ms. Oca's name on them and the UN number for this purpose. We could provide the link to the UN website and give the card to the JW. Chances are when they get home they will look it up.

I was just thinking: If they are booted out and a press release is made, it would be excellent.

But an even BETTER outcome would be that the Watchtower would perhaps be viewed as a cult by the UN. So they would a) get booted out, thus ruining their reputation and b) all the other nations would know about their duplicity and finally c) where the UN has supported the WTS in their cause to qualify as a "legitimate" religion, they will probably understand and view them in the same light as nations such as France. Just think, maybe even the nation of Bulgaria will investigate to see if they were also duped (which they were).

If the WTS loses its status as a religion in most countries it will have to pay taxes! Just think how they are going to "grind their teeth" when that happens! That, plus the swarm of lawsuits could break them.

And one final thought: Couldn't we ask a loyal dub, "Isn't the disgusting thing supposed to turn on 'FALSE religion'? Well, since it's turning on only the WTS, doesn't that mean IT is false religion?"

Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'

the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.

here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.

though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

I think I got you all beat. Mine was the stupidestest ever: An elder pulled me aside because I called my three little girls "youguys" out in service! He said the word "guys" comes from "gay" and shouldn't be used by "true Christians."

Emergency !!!! Can Any One Help?

this plea for help goes out to anyone in the st louis mo area.. okay this is the situation, my father and sister are both disfellowshipped and have been sharing an apt.

since my mom and dad have been separated.. my dad was being kind to my sister who was in need after her divorce.. she was the typical jw just, high school education then depending on a man.

dad agreed to let her live rent free till jan when she graduates from dental school.

I'm sorry but this is pathetic! Your dad sounds like a real jerk to believe the end of the world is coming due to the WTC. So he acts like a great human being and throws his own flesh and blood out on the street to go back to the borg just so he can survive armageddon? This clearly shows this is not a Christian religion. It gives Jesus a bad name!
