canberra (reuters) - an australian primary school banned a teacher after she told a class of six year olds that santa claus does not exist.. angry parents from the corowa public school demanded action when some children arrived home in tears after a reserve teacher, on her first day on the job, told them their parents brought their presents.. "santa claus has always visited our house at christmas," mother vanessa lohse told the daily telegraph newspaper.. "my three kids (aged five, six, and eight) don't believe santa is real now -- it's really put a damper on christmas.".

Santa is mostly an American fable. In Costa Rica we used to believe in the Nino (baby Jesus) coming on Christmas eve, which was basically fulfilled when the statue of Jesus was placed on the manger at midnight. We never had too much money for extravagant gifts. The highlight was eating tamales with the fam and going to midnight Mass.

Regardless, I never told my kids anything about Santa. Even when I was a wit-less. Now when they ask for something and it's near their birthday or Christmas I say, "Ask Santa." And that basically means, "Maybe you'll get it for your birthday (or Christmas)."

My kids were never devastated because I never lied to them. Even with the Adam and Eve thing. They know the stories are allegories. And they know what an "allegory" is.

This teacher was clearly out of line but it wouldn't be such a problem if parents were more honest with their kids in the first place.

Just my opinion.

Seeker, did you want to say something to me? :-)

I was thinking that we could really spin this the UN way. Meaning, how did this cult which violates the most basic human rights of its followers get past the NGO accreditation process so easily? Hmmmmm.

Then we could outline the basic human rights and cite specific examples.

Then we could leave it wide open for the UN to respond. Which would be a major BONUS!! Let's roll with it. Hawk, where are you?

my son-in-law has his first public talk today, and i was invited to attend the event.

it seemed to be very important to him and to my daughter that i be there, so i agreed.

Mulan, good point about the memorial services of your parents. I always tell my husband that since my sister is the only JW in the family, if she died we would have a Catholic funeral for her and tell the dubs to stick it up their asses! I mean what could they do? Well, they could have their own but who cares. They would have to eat it and see all the NON-CONTROL they really have!

Of course I would rather my sister leave the cult and get a life but, well....

YoYo, this sounds like you're saying that the elders and servants are really appointed by imperfect men who imperfectly apply what they imperfectly read in the Bible written by the Holy Spirit.

If this is really what you are admitting to, then it is one HUGE DIFFERENCE from what we were always told which is that the elders and servants are "directly appointed by Holy Spirit."

Which is it A or B? Because if it's A, then it makes sence why my husband was appointed a servant when he was lying by putting 10 hours a month on his time when he really only did 1. And that when the elders who are supposedly oh-so-guided by the HS didn't realize that it was I who was writing all those really good talks he was giving. And that it was I who was taking the lead in my household with the kids, etc. etc.

And if it is A, then let's tell it to everyone. I mean this is BIG news!!! It answers a lot of questions like why elders can remain elders when they are secretly raping their little girls. Or why elders remain elders (and I know one personally) when they are a serial rapist in a community -- of course then the HS reveals (or was it the police hmmmm) that he's a rapist when he gets arrested and subsequently convicted and sentenced to 25 years to life for every girl he raped (some under 12 years old). Now it all makes sense.

You forgot about the "nethinim" class. They got all their bases covered. Basically, anyone who wants out will eventually get out. But anyone who wants in will find any means to stay in.

Sad but true. Just look at YoYo, Fred Hall, You Know, et al

Here they are day after day reading all this information that I wish my sister would look at for a fraction of a second (but SHE practices what she believes). But they WANT to stay in the org. So they have to rationalize, rationalize, rationaize. Basically, they are not STRONG enough to use their "reasoning" abilities. They are comfortable with letting the borg do their thinking for them.

The ones we can get to are the ones who are studying or the youth. Today two young little dudes (5th graders) came up to the office (I work in an elementary school) because they couldn't participate in patriotic activities. Now all trimester they never came up or said boo and all of a sudden, day after parent/teacher conference here they are. So I asked them, "How come? Just curious." Know what they said? They shrugged their shoulders. They didn't even know how to tell me why. So I said, "Is it against your religion or something?" They said, "Yeah." So I said, "Really, how come?" Again no answer.

Those two boys may one day get baptized but guess what! Our efforts can save them! I know in my gutt that neither one of them will ever be a witness. They're the ones we can save. They could care less about the anointed and all that crap. All they're gonna know is that their whole lives they missed out on stuff waiting for Armageddon and it never came. Those are the ones, man! We gotta save those ones so their lives don't go to waste.

The fact is all their doctrines hang by a thread or the thread long broke. If a person is strong enough to see it, great. If not, there's nothing we can do. IMHO.
