Well, of the oldies I know well enough to hear their honest comments, they are not feeling "vigourous and fresh" as the letter puts it. Instead I hear grumbles about the Org. How they feel left behind in the techie world they have to embrace, the changed doctrines, lack of help from elders.... etc

We all know the J W answer to the above question and ,like me , have stated it many times on people's doorsteps.
We can either accept that of allow the above "paradox " to turn us into atheists. Nobody can come up with a better answer so we either accept it , or something like it , or not ......it is up to you.

I do remember seeing it , some years back.. I also recall once ,nearer the time, when the film came in conversation with some dubs. They looked at us shocked, and said that they would not watch it!
we all know that the watchtower (jehovah's witnesses) say the reason for disfellowshipping is to protect the congregation from some uncleanness or threat.so they "quarantine" (shun) those they perceive can spread information that does not agree fully with their teachings/doctrines.it's almost like they want to liken it to a real disease by calling opposers "mentally diseased", "threat" etc.
will the current state of affairs in the world regarding this pandemic strengthen their cause/argument in favor of isolating within their ranks?
i can visualize them in the near future even having parts at the hall or assemblies pointing back to this pandemic and saying something along the lines of "brothers what do you think would happen if we would not have quarantined and stayed away from any that were infected?
It will have no effect longterm, or shorttem come to that.. Yes it's likely some assemblyspeaker may use it as an illustration, so what?
The system of d/f ing and shunning is in place and will remain.

i’ve been at work with some jws over the last week.. i was conversing with one jw elder who mentioned having a couple of drinks after work, on the evening of a zoom meeting.
he said he never drinks before a meeting, but did this occasion.
this jw is not a heavy drinker, he’s very moderate compared to most.. this got me thinking about the other jws i use to associate with, who were actually drinkers, blokes that would drink 8+ beers, when it’s gone out comes the scotch or vodka.. i think they’ll be counting the sober bro’s on one hand at these meetings.
Well done that sister! .... so what if she lightens a meeting by having a snifter in her own home. They could only have seen us drinking coffee. NB my Missus made sure that the camera on our tablet was covered up
i’ve always noticed that the local jw leaders like to give as little notice as possible for local meetings and expect you to drop everything and rearrange your life to fit their agenda in.
i’ve noticed this more during the pandemic.
we are not given the codes and time of memorial until a couple hours before meeting.
Jw stream is password protected and elders guard it like hawks . We had legitimate reason to ask for it for a circuit assembly .. The co ordinator would onlh give us a stream of that one...no more
The d/f'd have only the stuff on public website. Still it is a great reason for not coming to the Hall, if they want to reinstate. That was always a big factor
i support local and state and federal government’s power to safeguard the public.
i wonder is it getting to a point where we will be told we can’t go out anymore, can’t use your phone or computer anymore because of the viruses that we can get, etc.
are we prolonging this virus at all ?
It is not about rights, it is about duties.
We all have a duty to our neighbours not to catch or spread this potentially killing disease. Yes our civil rights are curtailed , but it is a price we have to pay for staying healthy , even staying alive.
How would you react if nothing was said, and you or your loved one caught it? We ard all teed off with staying in , all Summer events cancelled, not being able to go out and enjoy the sunshine, get a coffee or a pint.... but thats just the way it is.I
