That is when we had real assemblies! Everything live, no damn videos. ... Sessions until 9 pm at night , then off on the tube or bus to where your "digs" happened to be ( I stayed in some strange places ! ) One might have paid perhaps 7shillings and sixpence per night. That is old money.

I shared in rooming work once when they held it local. That accommodations form looked familiar.

That film, Heritage, I know of it but never actually saw it. I must have been ill the weekend they showed it at a Circuit Assembly. What was that WMAL TV ? I have never heard of that.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

In the U K we have had 21000 deaths and hundreds added every day. The numbers are a little les lately but nobody pretends the figures are complete.

True, we cannot stay in lockdown forever ,but when to ease things? That is a judgement call that I am glad I do not have to make.

When one hears of the death of people that we know on this board, and the infection of others, it brings it all home to you. A good friend of our locally has it too, we hope for the best .

humans are basically social animals.

see most any isolated mammal, whether in a zoo or even an outcast of its pride and you'll see one mentally disturbed creature.

maybe, after this pandemic has faded and humans are able to interact once more, some jw's might think twice before being so quick to shun.

Come on, the dubs are loving this, it is nothing like being d/f’d.

They have picked up the Zoom app ok . Now they can have the meetings at home, and have a sneak look at their brothers homes. They see each other on screen , are encouraged to phone one another . The young ones offer to shop for the elderly. The support network is in force.

To cap it all there is the smug satisfaction of “we told you so” . These are the last days , they say ,prophecy fulfilled. Some believe it is the beginning of the end.

Never been a better time to be a dub!

we have lost zing to the coronavirus this saturday gone, in the early hours.

So sorry. This is a loss to our community but a much bigger loss to his loved one. We will miss Zing.

This rotten virus is a ( expletive) ! Why does it take the good ones?

Zoom meetings to continue thru July

co is coming and expecting to zoom it in july.

also there is no talk about starting to slowly go back to the hall.

like having 1 group at the hall and the rest on zoom, etc.

Yes , I sat alongside a while when the meeting was Zoomed today. The announced attendance was good and Wt participation seemed good as well. The flock seem to have got the hang of it and like it.

At least they don’t have to get up and go out. Mostly they still wear a collar and tie though. Will this lead to lasting changes?

A discovery concerning 1975 as I am going through old Watchtower literature

i think everyone has heard about the video at the convention a few years back where an older ‘brother’ relates that “some were selling their homes” pre 1975, and it makes it look like the rank and file are stupid.

it shifts the blame to the r&f.

no mention of the km that advocated it.. and you have all seen the km that said it, and that it was the may 1974 km.. however, it was not.

I can't remember exactly now too much about the old Kingdom Ministries, it has been a long time. I recall however that there were funny things about the indexing. To find one you had to look up the monthe before, or was it the month after? .... I wish Blondie was around, she would remember.

Also I believe they were produced Nationally. I know the UK one differed a bit to the U S ones. All that changed when it all went digital .

Personally I have no argument with tnis statement, although I have not read the context.

We are talking of Christianity, not market driven capitalism. Despite the failings of the WTS , if we look to scriptures, I think of tne 1st chapter Corinthians

"26 For you see his calling of you, brothers, that there are not many wise in a fleshly way,*+ not many powerful, not many of noble birth,*+ 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world to put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world to put the strong things to shame;+ 28 and God chose the insignificant things of the world and the things looked down on, the things that are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,+ 29 so that no one* might boast in the sight of God. 30 But it is due to him that you are in union with Christ Jesus, who has become to us wisdom from God, also righteousness+ and sanctification+ and release by ransom"

Nobody likes a proud arrogant person. The God of the Bible does not either. Of course people of ability are needed and valued but in Christian terms, it must be coupled with a degree of humility. I have known, a long time ago , elders I worked with who had basic education and worked on a dust cart or such menial jobs . These men had more organizational ability than the highly qualified managers at my workplace.

Sadly such elders are hardly seen today.
