As a fan of Orwell I rather like this thread . If we were Animal Farm characters, which one would we be?

I might be old Benjamin the donkey. He is a cynic who does not believe in the culture of the revolution but keeps quiet because he does not want to get cast out . NB I have been Inactive for many years but stay in touch to keep my marriage intact .

Over the years I have known a few “ Mollie the ponies “ , young women who skip the Org for a life outside.

There are also plenty of elders like Squealer the pig who defend the hierarchy’s every statement and make justifications for it all.

The rank and file JWs fit exactly the sheep of Animal Farm . On command or in response to any questioning of a order from the pigs , the bleated mindlessly “4 legs good 2 legs bad” .... just like the other sheep in the JW world.

however in light of recent changes i have thought a bit about things and have come to the conclusion that the society might.

The sheepees will accept whatever they are told. We have to remember that , to them, the GB are the voice of God On Earth. They would never dare to say, “How dare you” .Also they are clever at manipulating words and scripture to make it seem reasonable. Just like in Orwell’s 1984, “ Whatever the Party holds to be truth, IS truth “

They already watered down the blood issue to accept fractions. They just told the people that if you feel grieved because of past losses , don’t think that way but rejoice that the matter is clarified..

it's no longer a year tying to the present (the old pre-1995 generation belief).

realistically, that's the only reason why it mattered.

and if it doesn't really matter what it is anymore, why would jw not do away with it?.

It is still officiall teaching but rarely mentioned. The numerical formula that we knew is now only known by old timers with memory. It is just by observation of the World war and looking at the world today , that they say ...” This is the time” .

I know someone who had a big operation in recent times. He steeled himself to face the blood issue but when he told them, it was fine. He signed the disclaimer and they went ahead , no problem.... times change.

They do report the number of studies. … Maybe that’s it… perhaps “the friends” haven’t got the hang of the new reporting system and they just haven’t reported them ? .

Update changes well received

a few weeks later, the witness that i speak, family and friends are very happy with the recent changes .. no one mentions the df aproach change, fieldservice report and free entrance to the paradise for non jw.. only the clothing style and beard are mentioned.. the sisters are all in a halaluja happy modes.

they are feeling being respected and heard by the lovely leadership.. one brother told me he will never grow a beard because he lost his elder status in the early 90's because of his beard.

now it's allowed i will not grow a beard he sweared.. it seems jw.org has down a great change job.

It is not exactly a free entrance. All that has been said is thad Jesus would hold judgment until the last moment, giving opportunity for more to make a last minute dash to the K.Hall and grovel to be let in . Is that what you would do?

But yes, beards and slacks are the big talking points, as though no one thought about important new beliefs.

Listener’s advice is quite right.. seek the correct medical and social help. For the congregation, just throw yourself on their mercy. Remember that elders are human so make sure they get the full story. Forget about the Holy Spirit, this is a trial by men .

Rehearse some phrases to use and speak out . A friend of mine was so nervous she clammed up and the elders mistook that for belligerence.

With the new emphasis on mercy and your newness, you should be ok. Best of luck.....

Elders or any higher ups at Bethel get paid?

i thought elders and/or high rankers don't get paid.

is there something i don't know?

I cannot believe this site . If it were true it would be a major scandal.

No congregation elder gets paid. It is a labour of love . As for Bethel elders and high ups , the principle has always been that they all get a basic income. That used to be $14 a month but must have increased now.

Of course if you costed up all the benefits in kind they receive in terms of board and lodging, it would equal a salary…….

Visible Tattoos and body piercing are not the done thing among Witnesses but are not exactly forbidden. It would no doubt prevent you progressing with privileges but not thrown out.

Until we see tv newscasters and politicians with them , I don’t think it will change.
